Steward's Notes:

This event is using the same formula as previous enduro events:
  • There is no minimum qualifying speed for the LMP class, however race stewards reserve the right to disqualify a driver if they do not consistently maintain car control and a safe pace.
  • There are specific rules/procedures to address the scenario where the leader takes the checkered flag while a driver is in the pits.
  • Qualifying Times will not be published until the respective class qualification deadline is reached. Drivers are allowed to share their own times via PM or other private communications and others can observe their runs with permission from the driver, but qualification lap times or any information that be used to derive quali lap times should not be posted/discussed in the thread.
  • Posting/discussing practice lap times, tunes and driving techniques is encouraged although not required. Please use the practice leaderboard!
  • The qualification deadlines are at 10:00 PM Pacific on the final day of each class. Late qualification will be accepted, but with no chance to race in room A.

Simulated Driver Change

pitcrew.jpg

There will be one mandated (simulated) driver change during the race which must take place in a specified time window. To simulate the change a driver will pause during a regular pit stop for 5 minutes. The time window is long enough that it will throw some interesting dynamics into the race and it will also allow the participants to take a small break during the race for a stretch, drink or a real life pit stop during this challenging event.

Specifics:
  1. To begin the simulated driver change enter the pits as normal during the driver change window (race clock between 1:00:00 to 1:30:00).
  2. Begin the pit stop as normal allowing AI to take over and then selecting tires and added fuel amount and select OK
  3. After that screen is dismissed hit "Start" which will show the options buttons ("resume", "chat", "options" and "exit").
  4. As long as you see those option buttons you will not be released from your pits. Do not click any buttons including chat or you will be released when you dismiss that screen.
  5. The AI will drive the car into your pit stall and begin your normal pit stop. At this point you should be watching the race timer and the crew member with the release flag.
  6. When the flag man raises the release lollipop, your 5 minute wait officially begins.
  7. Note the race clock time (or current lap time) and write it down. Manually add 5 mins and write down this time which is when you can leave the pit.
  8. Take a break, stretch, pat your dog and do whatever else makes you feel refreshed.
  9. After the target time has been reached on the race timer hit start and proceed with the remainder of your race.

Driver Change Verification and Infractions:
  • All driver changes will be reviewed and penalties applied for improper execution before the results will become official.
  • If you do not serve the total 5 minutes a double time penalty will be applied to your finish time. e.g. if you serve only 4 minutes then 2 minutes will be added to your finish time.
  • If you accidentally leave the pits early you can avoid a penalty by returning to the pits and serving all of the remaining time on the *very next* lap.
  • Any driver that doesn't attempt a proper driver change will be DQ'd and removed from the official results.

Qualification

quali.jpg

Drivers can attempt to qualify for either class (or both). The top qualifying drivers from each class will participate in the "A" race. Drivers who do not make the cutoff will serve as reserves for "A" and participate in a "B" race (assuming there are enough drivers to race in a second lounge). The LMP qualifying deadline is earlier so organizers can "lock down" the LMP class for race "A". Drivers that do not qualify for room "A" in the LMP class can attempt to qualify for room "A" in the GT class. If space is available in the LMP class after the LMP deadline additional drivers can qualify, but can not displace any drivers that qualified before the deadline and will not be able to qualify for room A.

Qualifying will take place during the two weeks prior to the race event (see windows below). Drivers can arrange ad hoc sessions with an approved steward at any time during the window. All qualifying sessions will require a steward to set up the lounge to proper specs and will consist of short "races" which are observed and verified by stewards and other drivers. Standard WRS track rules are in effect during these races and any infractions will be penalized a minimum of 2 seconds per incident unless it is beyond a reasonable doubt that the "infraction" had a negative impact on the lap time. Each driver can attempt qualifying for a class only once (one shot per class).

Qualification times for a class will not be published until the qualification window closes for that class. Drivers are allowed to share their own quali times via PM or other private communications and others can observe their runs with permission from the driver, but qualification lap times or any information that be used to derive quali lap times should not be posted/discussed in the thread.

Qualifying Race Procedure
  1. A race steward will set up the lounge to the proper specs for the class.
  2. The driver will be given an out lap and a single hot lap in free run for a final warm up if desired (Drivers should come to the session already warmed up and prepared).
  3. After the completion of the practice hot lap the race timer will be started.
  4. The qualifying steward and any other observers will monitor the race live to validate the run and save a replay in case of any protest.
  5. The qualifying races will consist of 4 laps: 1 un-timed out-lap + 2 timed hot-laps + 1 un-timed in-lap.
  6. When the driver finishes the final hot lap he should slow down and park on track before finishing the in-lap.
  7. Lap times and any infractions will be noted and announced by the steward.
  8. When the driver and steward are in agreement on the recorded net lap times the driver can exit the track.

Qualifying Time
  1. The drivers single best hot lap will determine his starting position on the grid.
  2. Any driver in either class that demonstrates in qualification or practice sessions that he cannot keep the car in control and on the track consistently or maintain a reasonable pace will not be allowed to participate in the enduro race. The stewards and event organizers will make that call if it is deemed necessary.

Miscellaneous
  • Any disagreement over infractions will be handled via replay review.
  • If a driver disconnects before finishing his first hot lap he can return to re-run a qualifying race.
  • Any lap completed (and time noted by steward) prior to DC will be counted and the lap count reduced for the 2nd attempt.
  • A driver will not be allowed to rerun a qualification lap if he DCs after damage occurs to the car in the lap, but he can rerun subsequent laps.

Qualifying Windows
  • LMP: Saturday, July 21st (7:00 PM Pacific) - Sunday, July 29 (10:00 PM Pacific)
  • GT: Friday, July 20th (12:00 PM Pacific) - Thursday, August 2 (10:00 PM Pacific)

Approved Qualifying Stewards (in alpha order w/time zone)
  1. Allibubba99 (GTP_Allibubba99) - NA
  2. ealirendur (GTP_ealirendur) - AU
  3. EDK (GTP_EDK) - Pacific
  4. Gravitron (GTP_Gravitron) - NA/Pacific
  5. Hydro (GTP_Hydro) - NA/Eastern
  6. jtv90069 (GTP_jtv90069) - AU
  7. MadMax86 (GTP_MadMax86) - EU (Finland)
  8. mcfizzle (GTP_mcfizzle) - NA/Central
  9. Speedy6543 (GTP_Speedy6543) - EU (Belgium)
  10. WRP001 (GTP_WRP001) - NA/Pacific
  11. w-g-e (GTP_w-g-e) - EU (Netherlands)

Scheduling a Qualifying Session

Drivers should post to the thread requesting a steward to observe their qualifying run and the day/times you would be available. To maximize the chance of making a match with a steward please provide a few times and give a bit of up front notice. Stewards may also post that they have qualifying rooms ready in case anyone is ready to qualify. During those steward prompted sessions the lounge will be set up for free run practice until someone is ready to qualify. Drivers are welcome to practice during these sessions and observe others qualification runs. All qualifying runs must take place in private lounges (not public lobbies).

A few common track infractions at Motegi that will result in a time penalty
  • The final chicane (Victory Corner) is probably the only pace where going off track won't lose you time. Keep two tires on/over track (rumbles are track) on your run through the chicane.
  • PS. Don't hit any cones

r2_motegi_japan.jpg

Finalizing Your Class

All drivers who have attempted to qualify for the LMP class must state their class intentions by Monday, July 30th 11:59 AM Pacific. There are three options:
  1. Commit to LMP. GT qualifying not required and any existing GT qualifying times will be disregarded.
  2. Commit to GT. GT qualifying required, LMP qualifying disregarded.
  3. Reserve LMP. GT qualifying required, LMP qualifying "reserved" pending LMP result, but driver will not be able to qualify for LMP-A.

Rolling Starts By Class

LMP cars will leave the grid first and get into a staggered formation. Pole sitter on left side and alternating all the way back. Target speed is 62 MPH / 100 KPH. GT cars should form up the same way shortly behind. Both fields should close ranks after exiting the final corner on the formation lap. Maintain formation lap speed until the start/finish line when the pole sitter will accelerate to race pace. All other cars should accelerate when the car in front accelerates. There should be no overlap with the car in front of you during the start. The GT pole sitter should time the start to maintain a safe gap to the LMP cars. Ideally the GT cars would be accelerating to race pace at the start/finish line when the LMP cars are in turn 3 (a little less than a sector).

Mixed Class Racing Rules

Both classes must share the road and show some courtesy to the other class!

LMP Class Ground Rules:
  • Be Patient: Your job is to get around the GT class responsibly. Do not dive bomb a GT class car under braking putting them in jeopardy if you make a mistake. Understand where you car holds the advantage and utilize those areas to execute passes safely.
  • Have good situation awareness. If GT class drivers you are approaching are engaged in close battles don't expect them to stop their battle and let you go by. You may have to slow and pick your passing lines carefully. You may lose a gap you've built over a competing LMP driver, but that's the nature of multi-class racing. Everyone has a right to the road and everyone is going to get stuck behind a slower car at some point in the race.

GT Class Ground Rules:
  • Be predictable. Pick your line and and hold it. Don't suddenly change your line thinking it will allow faster cars to pass. You will just surprise them and mess up any plan they've already made to get around you. If you are taking a corner on the inside hold that line on exit and allow the LMP car to pass on the outside. If you are on an outside line in a corner, maintain that line on exit.
  • Have good situation awareness. Understand which cars and how many are around you. Is there one LMP class car attempting to pass or a pack of them. Where do the LMP cars have a big advantage over you (straight, under braking, mid corner).
  • Do not block: GT drivers do not have to move aside for an approaching LMP car, but they are not allowed to "block" or interfere with an LMP car trying to pass.

Remember every driver has their own style and approach to the course. You should take advantage of practices and support races to get to know your competitors and their driving styles and their skill level regardless of which class they are racing. Some drivers have more car control than others, some are more comfortable maintaining close proximity to other cars and some may back off with other cars around.

This event is for fun and drivers of all skill levels are welcome. If you have a problem with that then this probably isn't the event for you. Unintentional mistakes are going to happen, but this is a very long race and you have plenty of time to recover (light damage). However, at the same time, all drivers are expected to drive at a pace in which they can consistently control their car and not jeopardize other drivers. Do not drive faster than your ability to control the car. If during practices and races you are not able to consistently control your car you may be removed from the race and/or demoted to a lower race class at the stewards discretion.

Race End

checkered_flag_waving.gif

  • At 2.4 hours (2:24:00.000 on the race clock) the "white" flag will be waved.
  • The first time the overall race leader (from the LMP class) passes the finish line after 2.4 hours the checkered flag is waved and the leader's race is over. I.e. the first lap completed after 2.4 hours completes the leaders race. After passing the start/finish line the leader should immediately slow to 50 MPH and announce the checkered flag (press start and type "Checkered Flag"). No car should pass him at any time going forward. Any close finishes at the line will be reviewed with replay for the official results. Note: if in doubt, finish your lap and the results will be reviewed.
  • After the checkered flag is announced all drivers should complete their current lap and their race is finished when they next pass the finish line. They should line up behind the train of cars that have already finished moving at 50 MPH. When the last car passes the start/finish line we will announce race end, record the results and then allow everyone to exit track and save the replay.
  • If you are in the pits beyond the start/finish line when the leader takes the checkered flag you can complete your lap *only* if you can exit pit road before the leader passes the pit exit. You cannot past the leader on the parade lap.

--------------

Important notes for the Support races. (note: the two formation laps and GT getting a head start will NOT apply to the Enduro on Sunday)

Summary:
  1. All races will take place in GTP_3D3_A and mics will be disabled.
  2. The races will be set to 31 laps. (30+1 for LMP, 29+2 for GT)
  3. The lounge will be open about 1 hour before the race begins -- watch thread for announcement.
  4. Be on time (at least 5 minutes early, but preferably 15).
  5. Regulation checks will begin promptly at race start time.
  6. There will be 2 formation laps for GT and 1 formation lap for LMP.
  7. The formation lap speed limit is 62 mph / 100 kph and a staggered two wide formation will be used.
  8. No tire warming procedures allowed during formation laps.
  9. Pits are open for the entire race and there is a required short pause in the pits to simulate a driver change.
  10. The race finish delay will be set to 130 seconds (2:10) which is 110% the the "average" GT lap time.

Regulation Checks:

All drivers should be in the lounge at least 5 minutes before the race start time. We will begin reviewing these rules at that time. Mics are disabled so it will take a little longer to get all the instructions out. Once the steward begins to type out the instructions please refrain from using the text chat unless you have an important question.

At the race start time we will begin regulation checks. You will be called by name to enter the lounge with the GT drivers entering first in starting order and then LMP cars after regs are updated. Do not enter the course until your name is called and do not exit to the lobby once you are entered.

Stay in the pits until the system places you on the starting grid and then we'll begin the formation lap procedures above.

Formation Laps:

The slower class cars (GT) will leave the grid in order of qualifying and run a single file formation lap at 80 mph (faster than normal formation). Basically the goal of this lap is just to get around fairly quickly and reform for formation Lap 2. At the same time the faster class cars (LMP) will allow the GT class to clear the grid and then leave the grid and park in order half way down the straight after turn 2 the far left side of the track. Stay clear of the pits as we've been hit by a pit bug before.

The slower class will finish lap 1, pass the parked faster class and start lap 2 of their formation lap. The slower class should proceed on formation lap 2 at 62 mph/100 kmh. The faster class will wait until the slower class are all clear of turn 4 and then begin to form up in qualifying order and begin their own formation lap at 62 mph /100 kmh. The faster class should maintain about a 1 sector gap to the slower class for most of the formation lap. The pole car each class is responsible for setting a steady pace while allowing the group to keep together.

The slower class will begin the race at the start/finish line after their 2nd formation lap. The target start line is the official timing line and the lead car should make sure after the final turn that all cars have formed behind and closed the gap before the group approaches the start. At that point it's up to the lead car to accelerate to start the race and all other cars can speed up when the car in front of you does so.

The faster class cars will follow the same procedure and starting point, but the goal will be to time their start so that the lead car from the slower class is exiting Hairpin Curve when the faster class accelerates to race pace. That should give the GT cars a 1.75 lap head start.

The 62 mph formation laps should be taken in staggered formation. The lead car will take the left side of the track. The second car should take to the right side of the track and alternate all the way back. This helps keep a tighter pack while maintaining better visibility versus single file. Cars should not "overlap" with the car in front of them. No passing before the start/finish line.

Simulated Driver Change:

We want to practice the simulated driver change from both a drivers and stewards perspective in case there are any questions or issues before the main event on Sunday. We will follow the same procedure except the required stops will be much shorter and every driver must simulate the driver change on their first pit stop. The GT cars must "pause" for 30 seconds and the LMP cars must "pause" for 2 minutes. Any failure to pause will result in a double-time penalty. So if you fail to stop at all and were required to do so for 30 seconds you will have 60 seconds added to your finish time and lose any positions as a result. If you stop for only 25 out of the required 30 seconds you will incur a 5 x 2 = 10 second penalty.

Finish:

Between the extra formation lap and shorter pit pause the two classes should finish the race pretty closely. I'm not sure who will actually finish first, but all cars should have a fair chance to complete the race before the timer expires.

I want to sign up for this, but I don't remember which color R8 I have, and I don't even have Motegi yet.

Also, looking at the time of the event, I'm not sure I'd be able to participate. I could do the first support race but I think that's about it.

Signed up. Looking forward to this one.👍

Porsche, you could always put yourself on the reserve list and see if you buy the track, I would recommend it. And even if you can only do one of the support races, you wouldn't be the first to do that and those races are just as much fun as the full Enduro.

Signed up.

I liked this bit in the OP.

OP
A few common track infractions at Motegi that will result in a time penalty
  • TBD -- don't hit any cones

Signed up.

I do plan on getting Motegi in the next week or so and I'd most likely sign up for the GT class as I like the R8 LMS.

Me and Motegi don't usually get along too well, but I do love these endurance races (between this and CALM, I've got 5 online endurance starts ). I won't sign up for sure until after I've picked up the track, but I'm pretty sure I'll run this.

I signed up for the GT class. Can't miss out on another great Enduro event. :)

The Motegi circuit is starting to grow on me. At first I wasn't crazy about the layout, seemed like a few drag strips connected by slow first gear u-turns. But after awhile I started to like it for some odd reason. Maybe I'm just a drag racer at heart.

Pedal to the metal boys, see ya at the races.

Looking good! I'll sign up closer to the date in case I can't make it or something.

Nice to see you again guys 👍
Hopefully the schedules work out and we'll see you on track.

Always good to hear from you Blair, even better to race you :)
You're description of motegi is bang on. Drag, tight turn right, drag, tight turn left, drag, tight turn right - mix it up for 1 sector, then drag again, etc
It's a different track, that's for sure but it's definitely growing on me too. When we tested with the GT class and LMP together it was obvious this will be a very interesting race due to both the 'drag strip' passing and that large chicane. I'm dying to get his event underway to see how it plays out :D

Welp, I've bought the track and signed up. My intended class may change, but I'm officially in. 👍

Looks great. Not sure about the dates yet, but I'll probably make at least one of the support races.

I think you guys mean July 29th for the LMP quali?

July 29 yes. Where does it say otherwise?

The countdown timer had the date listed as June. I fixed when I saw Ren's post last night 👍
Both quali windows were listed as opening in April as well

Signed up and looking forward to this one, nicely planned one week afther the reallife 24hours of Spa 👍

Changing my registration from GT to LMP.

After driving both cars for a couple of hours, I actually find the LMP car more enjoyable on this circuit. Should be a big change for me running the LMP car in this Enduro after using the GT cars in the previous two events. I won't have to drive with the mirrors as much (hopefully), but overtaking the GT cars will offer a new challenge I'm sure.

The rubble strips exiting the corners seem extra slippery on this track for some reason. Seeing as how you need to use them on about every corner exit is going to take a lot of throttle control not to spin the car. This will really be a test for my heavy right foot. :sly:

Ahhhh I've already got plans for that day but should get back in time for the race, I will know more closer to the time so I'll sign up for reserve as I normally do for now.

You'll have to use two different power/ballast specs for the two LMP cars. The normal R8 shows 810 HP (partially broken in), 900 kg, and 713 PP. The Team Playstation one shows 765 HP (0 miles), 950 kg, and 701 PP. Both cars have aero maxed out, power limiters at 100%, chassis stiffness added, and zero ballast. Both readings were taken at the car selection list part of the garage screen. I'm working on breaking them both in just to be sure.

Yup, we're working on it. Expect preliminary specs to be posted over the next 2-3 days minutes , but specs won't be set in stone until the quali window opens. We don't plan on running the LMP class at full power.

I have had no access to a PS3 for a couple weeks and won't for a couple more weeks so the rest of the team is working on the testing and spec development with Marc (Hydro) taking on the bulk of that work. Thanks Marc! 👍 In fact I've never driven a lap at this track in any car or any game so it's going to be a crash course. Which is why I signed up in the GT class as secondary... if I can't get up to speed very fast I'll be running GT to give me extra time to prepare for quali.

*** The Playstation Team Oreca '08 LMP car can have a wing fitted to the rear in GT Auto. IT costs 200,000 credits and raises the rear aero value to 105.
All Team Oreca LMP cars must have this part installed. ***

The GT class is, and will remain unchanged.

Edit: Dam, late by 18 minutes

I need to sign up for this, even if it's reserve.

Signed up reserve for each race as of now. Also went with the #5 Playstation since I'm not sure which color R8 LMS I have at the moment.

Some sort of GT Academy Denial?
OK - maybe not the Full course - I'll allow for that :D
