The internals (motors, belt, sensor) are the same.
The electronic is not.
The Clubsport handles up to 111 buttons, more analogic input.
The Clubsport get an additionnal output plug (rj45?) for future addon.

The quick release to me is worth not having 360 comparability. I jump from irl to NASCAR to hpd to Mazda in iRacing. If I couldn't change the rim in 2 seconds flat it wouldn't be worth it to me. So that's something else to keep in mind. I know the rim changes will be coming soon to csr-e but it will be slow and it just isn't really designed for it. Kinda like the t500.

But when the Xbox720 will be out, the Elite will have more chance to be compatible :)

Games like Assetto Corsa could probably run on the next gen consoles.

Anyone on here ever get double shipped from Fanatec weeks later after you've received your original order?
I just received an email from their US web shop this morning telling me my order just shipped. WTF (what the fooie) lol
I love my new gear, but not enough to order it twice! Lol

If anyone did, I don't think that they would post on any forums about it :dopey:

Never mind. All my emails on my iPhone doubled up. After the 5th familiar email I realized I was a dope! Lol I guess this is what happens when you load a back up. Opps! Lol

bummer! The downshifter paddle spring on my Formula rim broke last night. I sent in a request to Fanatec for the stronger replacement springs and replacement instructions.

I was a bit surprised because I am a low - normal user of the wheel. oh well...I was aware of the potential problem when got the wheel and so it goes...

I thought the email they sent stated...I'm paraphrasing:
There could be a problem with the shifter spring.
Do you want to wait for updated production or send in the wheel for replacement of the spring (which they said would take up to six weeks if they did the work for you) or they'd send the better spring with detailed installation instructions.
My question is...are they sending the springs automatically or do you have to send them a request for one?

Unfortunately, Fanatec was not proactive in sending the springs to all buyers. They would only send you the improved springs if your paddle shifter spring failed and then you sent in a request.
IIBC someone asked for the springs in advance of a potential failure and Fanatec said "nein" and cited shipping costs many formula rim owners started asking for the new springs even though their wheels were operative. All I can hope is that they promptly ship the new springs and get them here in a timely manner.
:nervous:

the original options:
We can offer you the following options:
1. We deliver your rim immediately and in case you have an issue with the shifter paddle spring, we will send you two complete shifter paddle units so you can replace it by yourself. This will take about 10 to 20 minutes and we will show you how to do it.
2. We deliver your rim immediately and in case you have an issue with the shifter paddle spring, you can send us your wheel rim for repair.
3. We are now producing shifter paddles with a more reliable spring. You can wait until we can send you such a wheel rim which will take 6 to 10 weeks.
4. You can cancel or change your order

You're right. Now I remember.
I can understand why they don't want to ship springs at random. From what I remember, of the 100 or so test units that went out only 4 or so springs failed, so sending springs to all that bought an F1 rim seems silly.
I'm sure you'll be up and running in no time :)

The same thing happen to my F1 Wheel....I did file a report to Fanatec and they reply to me( below).
Until I receive the torsion spring . I went to the local hardware store and found a torsion spring that was almost the same size. Its works for the time being. All the spring does is position the paddle off the switch .That why you are still able to use the shifter. I did receive a email from fanatec before I recieve my CSW.. ..that they were aware of a problem with the spring on the F1 (Below)

thank you for your email.
We are currently waiting for the shipment of the new paddle shifters, but they will arrive very soon.
I´ll inform our office that new paddle shifters will be sent as soon as we received them.

Dear customer,

You have ordered a Formula rim for the ClubSport base. Despite the intensive quality control we discovered that a small part of the first batch of wheel rims shows a potential technical problem. On a few samples of rims which were tested during the community tests, it occurred that the spring of the shifter paddles can break after intensive use. The BMW rim is using a different spring and no issues occurred on this rim.

We wanted to pro-actively inform you about this potential issue so you can make your own decisions how to deal with it.

We can offer you the following options:

1. We deliver your rim immediately and in case you have an issue with the shifter paddle spring, we will send you two complete shifter paddle units so you can replace it by yourself. This will take about 10 to 20 minutes and we will show you how to do it.

4. You can cancel or change your order

If we do not get any response from you by Friday 13.7.2012, 12.00 pm then we assume that you will choose either option 1 or 2. And we will immediately dispatch your order. In case you want to go for option 3. Or 4. , please reply to this e-mail.

Best regards,

Your Fanatec team

It is possible to put the CSW in PS3 mode in the PC to emulate a G25? or only the PS3 mode is available if it detect a PS3? I ask because I can not put my CSW in PS3 mode in the PC pressing the two black buttons.

Only possible if you have a ps3 unfortunately. I voiced my dislikes about this during development, but yeah... only possible when hooked up to a PS3.

Are the CSR Elite and Club Sport base the same, or are they constructed of different materials inside the unit?

Mechanically very much equal (construction, etc), apart from the steering hub which has a quick release end on the CSW.
Electronically they are very different from each other. So different, chips, ports, firmware, etc.

Thanks I've decided to add the extra cash and op for the club sport, but 1 last question. Is the csr elite steering wheel the same size in diameter as the BMW GT steering wheel?

There is a good reason that we do this. Not all rims are affected and therefore we do not want to take the risk that users are changing the shifter paddle units without the need to do so. Every unnecessary modification should be avoided.
We will not only ship the spring but the complete shifter paddle unit (without shifter paddles) because it will be easier to replace.

I'm interested why you would want to emulate a G25 with the CSW? Never heard of that before.

The G25 mode gives you better backward compatibility with older games. Simply because the G25 is supported in almost any game.

It also allows you to use the logitech game software called profiler, which in general works better and has more options than the fanatec driver.

Some examples :

-The latest build of project CARS hangs at startup with my CSR Elite, if i use the G25 mode every thing works fine
-Shift2 has force feedback drops in the normal PC mode. If i put my wheel in the G25 mode, i have no issues and better FFB

The BMW rim is bigger

All the current stock of Formula rims will be rebuild with the new shifters. The parts are on the way from china. This is the reason why some people already have received their BMW rim, but still waiting for the formula rim

As stated HoiHman the G25 mode gives you better backward compatibility with older games. I installed this week RSRBR,NFS2,DIRT3 and is impossible to get the same feeling that with the G25.

No worries. I am just a typical First World denizen whining and wanting it all now! :dopey:

You make a good point about unnecessary repairs that could cause potential damage to the formula rim.

I received the email that the new shifter units are expected soon and then will be shipped out to those of us with shift paddle failures. Thanks!!

ah, I see. Thanks for the information. I assumed all the units with potentially defective shifter paddles had been shipped to customers and all the remaining units had the new and improved shifter paddle.

A little news flash for you guys.

Microsoft XBOX Durango (or xbox 720 as you all keep calling it), will use the same input system as the xbox 360. So it will use Xinput instead of HID like on PC and PS3.
What this means for a Fanatec buyer is that only the hardware that is xbox compatible how, will be compatible with the new console. Not the CSW like some of you had hoped for.

I came across this knowledge after an article on the internet today that someone sold a Durango-devkit for 20.100 US dollar on Ebay last night after a race by 43 bidders. With this article, this picture had been posted. In this picture you can see above that it is the Microsoft Durango Debugger that is running, and in the middel you see some code referring to Xinput.

Here are two other pics, the first the devkit itself, the second a screenshot of some 3D sample code.
