RKM Motorsport - Tuned Tuners - May '13

Think of it like this. Let's say a newbie has just bought his brand new Dodge Challenger SRT8 for the muscle car competition. B-Spec. He fully juices it, maxed out on racing soft. So, he then wants to get the most out of his new car.
This is where I come in. Instead of testing the MANY tunes there are for the Dodge Challenger SRT8 '08, all he has to do is listen in to our podcast, and we'll tell which one is best.

Except that won't work. Just because you say its the best tune, it doesn't mean its the best for him.

To further prove the point of the difference between an RKM tune, vs a Roj or RJ tune, I even separate them on GT5Tune, accordingly, simply because I agree and it's been that way for the entire duration of GT5Tune. A quick search shows 11 tunes under 'Rotary Junkie' 4 listed under 'VTiRoj'.

I do this for myself as well, the only difference is that I exclude my non-garage tunes from my own website, just because. But I know for a fact, that there's a RUF RGT, VW Nardo and a R35 TC tune floating around somewhere that I've posted. They just aren't up to the quality I feel they should be, to be listed within my garage. Actually, that Takata Dome tune I did for that Fuji challenge isn't included either, simply because I felt it was pointless.

So, I completely agree, and already take into account the separation of a 'garage' tune and an 'individual' tune. At my own discretion of course.

As I said, I test all the tunes for one car, and then pick the one tune that produces the lowest average lap times.

Good laptimes don't equal good tunes. I could have the fastest RX-7 in the world, but it could be the worst car to drive.

This was my original point but I guess I didn't make that clear enough.

So what happens then to the folks that haven't got a Challenger maxed on handicap tires racing softs? The guys/girls that want their car to sound awesome and handle well on sports tires? This is why you need to categorize the tunes.

The reality is, you're better of reviewing each tune than just saying what one is fastest, because everyone has a different driving style. For example, I prefer my cars to be neutral, but with a dab of oversteer just to keep everything in check. I like the front end to go where I want it. Telling me what the fastest tune is doesn't help me, because it may understand like a pig and that's no good to me.

What I do is test the tune on four tracks, although I already said that.
What I don't do is say "I got this lap time here, and this lap time here, blah blah blah stuff numbers!" I do post short reviews of the tune for each track, and then a larger overall review at the end. Although, how I will get this into the podcast is another story.

But why did this thread become about me?

Because there isn't anything this thread isn't about...
Because Racecar!

Having finally gotten into GT5, I was still trying to get used to how physics work and started to look into getting some decent beginner cars. Hearing this, RJ pushed me towards Roj's Suzuki Swift tune. At first, I was quite hesitant at trying out a tune already within the first couple of days of starting GT5. I ended up biting, and built The Swiftly Done tune to the letter. The main course of choice I used to lap the car in was Tsukuba Circuit. Having little to no experience driving FF cars in GT5, I was relatively worried about how to drive this 300hp Turbo Swift. Luckily for me, the tuner is top-notch and provided one of the best expectations for good FF cars yet. The Swift was stable through the turns of Tsukuba, and was gentle in teaching me corner speeds that it would take through various turns. I'll probably need to run the Swift at other various courses, but hands down Roj's Swift tune is the best FF setup I have driven.... (out of 0 other tunes. Will need to get to work on that.)

My review of Roj's Cappuccino non-RM (using DFGT)
My internet is capped right now, so I've been looking for odd/small cars to test out and use to win races where they really shouldn't, and I found the Cappuccino. Stock, it was a little slow for my liking, but the engine was revvy and it handled like a go-kart, and it was more than happy to kick the tail out a little on Comfort Mediums.

After tuning it up and dialling in Roj's settings, the car got even better. I was braking a good 10-20m closer to corners than the other cars in the 500PP FR Challenge, some corners didn't even require me to hit the brakes at all where the AI was. On Mt Aso, I was able to go round the first huuuuge corner with the camber and elevation changes at 150km/h, which is pretty damn impressive, and this was on Sports Medium tyres. I managed to win all the races in that challenge with the Cappu (with a liitle gearbox tweaking for Autumn Ring and Tokyo R246), which is no mean feat, considering there is always that bloody Shelby Series One Supercharged to get a huge lead over the rest of the AI. After switching to Racing Soft tyres,I was able to get a 58sec lap of Tsukuba pretty easily, because it stuck to the road like velcro dipped in superglue. It does run out of steam on the back straight though, which is fair enough, considering it's a 3-pot, 660cc engine.

With a bit of camber and toe tweaking, and a change to Comfort Medium tyres, I was getting an easy 12k points around Tsukuba in a drift trial using my DFGT. The rear end did like to overtake the front on the tighter corners though, which is fine, considering it was never a drift tune in the first place. Overall, a bloody great tune, and I highly recommend it to people looking for something different to drive instead of the 465939292 different Skylines/GT-Rs in the game 👍

One of the said tuners to yell out surprise and give us an amazingly epic tune. :D

That's never going to happen Korza...

Erm...might have just realised that this Gallardo I love so much isn't actually tuned. It's suspension is entirely symmetrical, no difference front or rear...maybe it's a sign?

your welcome. i love that Golf R its my "Daily" Driver car on GT 5,keep up the good work.

Well, I haven't reviewed a tune from RKM for a while, maybe this here can wake up the thread somewhat... :dopey:

Dragonthing is gonna kill you!: Pagani Zonda X by Dragonthing

Ah, a girl tuner. Quite the rare species 'round here on GTP. Dragonthing, a plucky Brit lady, joined the RKM group a while ago, and I've planning to check her work for a while now. I guess now is the time to do such thing. And I went straight to the maddest thing in her garage, the modified Pagani Zonda R, the Zonda X. As Dragon said, "X for eXtreme, X for eXperimental, X for eXcessive, or maybe X for X marks the spot where it's last victim was buried...your pick." I also believe that the X can be used to censor the driver's words when he is driving, as in "XXXX this thing, the XXXXX is going to kill me! XXXX you!" Wow, that one reminded me of Cadillacs and Dinossaurs for some reason... Either censored way, this monster is even more dangerous that a stock Zonda R. Am I kidding? No, I'm not. 958 hp from the mightiest AMG engine in history, along with a lightweight body, and racing-bred tecnhnology that was a prelude to the Huarya, or whatever the hell that name is. Remember that expression "Safety first"? In here, safety was kicked out of the building before it could even speak. On low revs, it might feel somewhat safe, but when you push the loud pedal, all hell breaks loose! Try to push the accel too much on a corner and you will die in a fireball of your own stupidity. This car has tailslide on its tailslide, that how mad it truly is. Keep it steady, though, and you will taste the might of the driving god's power. Loud soundtrack, and the highest possible speed in a Zonda are just a couple of the greatest moments when you're not dying about. Can't help but feeling that Rugal from the KOF series would have one of these. It's just like him: Overpowered to hell, and if you try to face it head on, you will only taste defeat and doom. Quite dramatic, but it is what it is. Should you have one? Let's put this way, do you drive TVR's? If no, stay away from this as far as possible...
