I would suggest 6-7 teams,

So that all teams can have a team boss (Important in this event) and car on track. Then there could be a spot for the race director, preferably somebody who has a game capturer and can record the full 24hrs on the timing screen. This then lets 1 space for driver swapping. Once of track leave room immediately as long as teammate is there. No leaving track until he is there though.

EDIT: If somebody was able to live stream the timing screen and teams have no problem communicating via skype then there is room for 10+ teams.

Don't worry, we have it all figured out.
Just need to put it in something that looks official.

I will be making a formal announcement regarding team formation on Wednesday.

Press Release - Team Formation Process

The team formation process has been discussed at length amongst the chief stewards. We have done our best, and believe we have found a fair way to determine even and closely matched teams as well as still providing for the fact that some people will still be able to race alongside their friends.
This will be a multi-step process
The first step is to select three Team Principals, one for each manufacturer (Ford, Ferrari, and Jaguar).
The selection process for the team principals has been optimized to be a fair method, that will produce three trust worthy, passionate, and overall well-liked individuals.
For a period of a week and a half, we will accept applications for these individuals. Each applicant will be reviewed, and narrowed down to no more than 15 (subject to change) people.
Directly following the announcement of these people, a poll will be opened and the public will be able to vote on and elect the final three team principals.
While this process is happening, prospective drivers will have the opportunity to submit optional pre-qualification lap times. These are not required to be selected to drive, but are recommended if you feel you need to put yourself out there and show what you're made of. All drivers that wish to participate will be required to submit a sign up sheet regardless of whether or not they wish to submit pre-qualification laps. Sign-ups will close the same day the polls do.
Shortly after driver sign ups close and the team principals have been selected, the principals will be invited to attend a meeting with the chief stewards that will be broadcast for all to hear. In this meeting there will be interviews amongst other activities. Manufacturer choice will be discussed and decided upon. But most importantly, there will be a driver draft.
The team principals will take turns selecting drivers to add to their squads. The will continue taking turns until the maximum number of drivers+reserves have been selected. There will be a max of five drivers per car, three cars per manufacturer, and one reserve driver for each car. This means 54 drivers in total will be selected.

All of this is subject to change.

going to go through the OP properly later on, very keen on this idea,

The problem is that nobody can sign up or consider it until we know the timings. If it was to be a weekend with an afternoon start on the Saturday then I could run a couple of 2/2.5 hour stints, one each day. But if it's evening I'll only be able to run 1 2/2.5 hour stint that would mean I wouldn't be pulling my weight.

Also, it would be helpful if sign ups can put down a car preference when signing up. 👍

A really good idea, but i get the feeling it will just be 3 team principles who will just draft in a team of aliens rather than those who actually want to be a part of this

I'll be watching this thread, seems interesting.

It sounds to me that there will be an open application process where people who want to participate will sign their names on a list, possibly along with their "racing resume" to show they deserve to drive. If more than 54 drivers apply, then some will have to be turned down. However, if 54 or less drivers apply, then all who wish to race, can.

I would hope its allowed as many as you may require, some people might only be able to perform for an hour or more, while other's like myself could jump one stint for 2 hours have an hour brake and go for another 2 hours, I think I could comfortably do 6 hours minimum,

I wish you guys the best of luck with this.

I assure you that logistically it will be a nightmare and will sap huge amounts of time from personal lives so share the load equally is my advice or it can easily become too much.

I'm only up for one 24hr race a year, and the 4hr series, so I cannot compete but best of luck guys, I'll watch this thread closely.

Cheers

HP

I'm very interested but thank god is set out though. I need to mentally get prepared for something like this. If this ends up being a hit maybe you can launch another 1 the weekend before the real 24hr Du Mans! 👍

I can maybe commit for a couple of hours depending on how well I can handle the car.

Interesting concept, very ambitious and I hope it works. I'd be interested but my schedule is too erratic and unpredictable. I might only be able to commit a day or two before the event so I'll keep an eye on the thread and see if any spots are open close to the day of. Good luck:tup:👍

well this has gone opposite to what I was expecting. I thought it would just be 15 teams and 8 drivers per team as opposed to the wurks guys who had 3 drivers team. Wont having 3 team principals just mean they'll pick drivers that they know?

I reckon having the application method where teams of x drivers submit applications to participate could be something to consider. Also, how are incidents gonna be dealt with since there are no replays? One steward to watch everything? How about 2pm GMT start time on Saturday like in the real race?

Great work so far 👍 might just be the greatest race...

yeah.. still dont like the idea of people being chosen to pick teams its either gonna be whos the fastest or whos a friend

I think it's awesome having multiple people from all over the racing series face off in a way like this. However the only problem I see is that teams might need to find drivers from both sides of the world, or else they'll be forced to run at night when they'd probably rather be sleeping.

Also, how many drivers can one team have? 3 like in real life would be too little in my opinion, at least 5 should suffice though.

I reckon 8 would be good. So its just 3 hour stints per driver as opposed to 5 hours per driver. People may lose interest mid race because of long hours. Theres nothing more annoying than DNF's because of lack of interest. Especially when furi and others have spent months planning....

We might need to separate drivers based on his/her geographic location due to the extensive length. Give each team a North/South American driver, a European/African driver, and an Asian/Australian driver. Just a thought.

well i think during the application process we will be asked to submit what hours we will be avaliable for pending on the day(s) if not then hint hint boss folk.

I'd be interested in doing this.
Need to gather a good team for this one.

And are the car specs set in stone?
Reason I ask is cause in JGTS, we're going to tweak the specs now that 2,09 is here.
The specs we used prior 2,09 was perfectly balanced, but that is'nt the case anymore.

Very interested in participating in this. Very cool to see the community making races like this and KurtKrDu's Wurks.ca Nürburgring 24 Hours.

The thing is that I won't be able to apply to be a driver until I know what days it's happening and at what time. :ill:
