Introduction

WRS Online parity racing events are being offered for fun unofficial events and will be offered periodically at various times during the week and weekends. The idea is to create a racing setup where all drivers can battle it out closely throughout a race whether those drivers are D1-Gold level or D5 level. In our normal series of official events you may have been racing on track with guys for over a year now and had very few on track battles with them and these parity events aim to change that.

We've been watching the GTP forums and were really intrigued by the parity formula created by DeadNutsEven Racing Club. We contacted them and received their permission for the WRS to use all or parts of their formula in our own events. We do plan to add our own tweaks, bells and whistles over time or even try out completely different approaches to parity racing, but our initial parity racing offerings are going to stick exactly to the proven DeadNutsEven formula. 👍 If you enjoy what you experience you'll find more of the same in their series and I'm sure they'd welcome new clean and respectful drivers to their series as well.

If you are a WRS-OE regular this will be a new experience you will not want to miss. If you've been sitting on the fence now is the time to join us for some informal, but structured and clean racing fun!

We welcome all drivers to join these fun events regardless of your skill level. This parity formula will require you to do a little homework and come prepared. It will work on the honor system so the success depends on you to make it work well. The goal here is to promote close and clean racing. We won't be tracking results or tallying points.

Parity Formula (courtesy of DeadNutsEven Racing)

We'll publish a track, target time, max speed and tire compounds. The current specs:

  • Track: Deep Forest Reverse
  • Target Time: 1'30.500
  • Max Speed: 187 kph / 116 mph (your speed should not exceed this at the end of the longest straight*(we use the straight with the finish line this week), and you should not hit the rev-limiter)
  • Tire: Sport Medium (Use a softer compound if you cannot obtain the target time without going over the max speed)
  • Car Choice: 1975 or older

Your job is to choose any car in the game (that meets the event car choice criteria) and set it up any way you like until you can just reach, but not exceed the target time using our online specs (listed below), but be sure to run online with tire wear / fuel consumption set to off. The tire compound specified is the primary option and is a reasonable target for D2-D3 drivers. If you are having a hard time achieving the target lap time without exceeding the max speed then you can use a tire one compound softer. If you are D1 and/or alien driver you can use a tire one compound harder to achieve your result.

You can:
  • Use a car stock
  • Use a fully tuned car (any parts as long as you meet the requirements)
  • Use ballast or power limiter to fine tune your achievable times
  • Use a clutch and any shifter (as long as you use it when you set your times)
  • Use any view (cockpit, etc. as long as you use it to set your times and as long as you can drive safely and maintain situation awareness)
  • Use ABS (or not) -- as long as you use the same settings to achieve the target time

You will have to put some practice time in to get consistent with the car/track and fine tune your setup as you improve and approach the target time. We may even organize a few of these session prior to the event, but for now just post to this thread if you want to use the lounge for practice and invite others to join. If you don't prepare enough and are still on a steep part of your learning curve when you show up for the event you are likely to improve significantly during the race and create an imbalance. We will have some procedures to correct that during an event, but the more prepared you are the better the racing will be for everyone.

Feel free to use this thread to discuss the best approach to converging on the best specs for you. Choose a car that you can be consistent with. If you have trouble with consistency choose an easier handling car or opt for the softer compound. The idea is for everyone to have a shot at a win and be able to negotiate traffic safely.

Once you have a car and spec picked you can sign up for the event and use the registration form in the 3rd post. You'll be asked some details about the car and specs. You can update your specs at any time by filling out the registration form again. If you are interested and want to save your car choice for later just put in "TBD" in the fields. This will help us get an advanced measure of interest for any event.

    • Start Type: Grid Start
    • Grid Order: Race 1 - Fastest First | All Other - Reverse Grid Based On Previous Race Results
    • Boost: No
    • Slipstream strength: Real
    • Penalty: Off
    • Automatic Race Start Cycle: Disabled
    • Race Finish Delay: Set to the max 180 secs
    • Grip Reduction: Real
    • Mechanical Damage: Light
    • Visible Damage: Off
    • Tire Wear / Fuel Consumption: Off
    • Skid Recovery Force | Active Steering | ASM: Disabled
    • TCS | Driving Line | ABS: Optional
    • Pits: Closed
Standard Clean OLR Rules Apply:



    • 3D3 Race Stewards (who are taking part in race, but will review the replay) reserve the right to kick out or invalidate the result of any driver from the Race Room for driving offensively. If you ignore any warnings from the stewards and are kicked out of the race room, you will not be allowed to participate in future 3D3 events.
    • Contact with walls should be avoided. Wall riding/bouncing to gain time will be penalized and/or can result in disqualification.
    • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
    • Runoff areas are not part of the track including green painted concrete.
    • Limit your contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
    • No hybrids
    • No cheating of any kind
    • Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
    • Passing and Blocking: Aggressive blocking is not permitted, but the driver in front has the right to choose his/her line and braking point and drivers behind should respect that line. These events are "for fun" so just play nice and take a conservative rather than an aggressive approach when possible.

Eligibility

This WRS-Online event hosted by 3D3 Racing is open to GTP_Registered members only. If you are not currently on the registry, join now by following the GTP_WRS Registration!

Registration Instructions

The following must be performed by every driver for every event:



    • Leave a quick note in this thread to let us know you've registered and any other comments.
The following must be performed only one time per driver (not per event):



    • Send a PSN friend request to GTP_3D3Racing, GTP_3D3_A and GTP_3D3_B from your GTP_tag account.
    • Submit the 3D3 Racing Online Driver Database Entry Form. Your information will need to be verified before you are added to the db and before your ID will appear in the registered driver table above. You can view the official driver database here.
There is a 16 car/driver limit for this event (per time slot) and slots are awarded on the grid using a first come first serve basis. Reference the registered drivers table above for availability. This is a stand alone race and points are not tallied for a series. Future WRS-Online races hosted by 3D3 racing may have different driver limits and will require re-registration using the same first come first serve basis and participation in future events is optional.

Registration Changes

If you want to change your time slot, add a time slot or update your color choices just click on the registration link and fill out the form again and submit with new values. Your last entry will override any previous entries.

Cancellations

If for some reason, after you register for the event, you are unable to attend please click the registration button above and complete the form again selecting "cancel" as your status. Please also post a note in this thread as the table above can take some time to update.

Delaying or Restarting Race Start

Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will only be restarted in these cases:



    • Multiple drivers report a black screen/hang, instead of the 3-2-1 countdown.
    • One or more drivers get disconnected before race-pace has begun ("GO" for grid-starts, end of formation lap for rolling starts).
    • Steward realizes there is a condition that would lead to an unfair or poor race experience.
Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will explicitly NOT be restarted for:



    • Latecomers, even if you've registered
    • Driver realizes he picked the wrong car parts (ie, tires) or driving options (ie, Auto tranny)

I think I got bit by the bug. :dopey: Trying out a bunch of cars I've never driven, and tweaking them to fit a certain lap time. 👍

Feel free to sign up early if you're interested in racing at this timeslot -- the details of which car you're using can be filled in later. :cheers::gtpflag:
 
Tried this today with a M3 CSL, very good fun tuning and adjusting the car to the lap time.

NOTE an addition to the OP, regarding the Max Speed:

DeadNutsEven races this past weekend observed an instance of someone who quickly got up to the max speed on the straight and then bounced off the rev limiter. Johnnypenso has stated this in response:

Also, something that came up this week I had never thought of before, is not to use the rev limiter to set your top speed. Your top speed should be a natural top speed and you should set up the tranny so you never hit the rev limiter.
 
What about drafting in terms of speed? Is 136mph including in this?

At the moment, if I get a decent exit out of the last corner I hit 136 right on my braking point. But obviously if I'm behind somebody it'll go up.
 
They allow the top speed and the lap times to be breached if in draft. We'll follow that as well.

It's all honor system though, and the first few short heat races are meant for any fine-tuning that is needed.

They figure changing the PP value up or down by 1 is equal to about 0.1 in laptime changes, as well.
 
Note: I changed my car to one of the academy models (370Z) because they are just rusting in my garage.

I've added a new category called "upgraded" to the "tuning level" field which allows for any part that is not adjustable and does not impact PP. These parts include Fixed Sports Suspension Kit, all Clutch Upgrades, and all Flywheel upgrades.

Ran some laps yesterday in the Nissan 370Z (GT Academy) '08 and I'm very happy with that car choice. 👍

When I hit a golden lap I'm right at 1'26 with my best lap being 1'26.080. :dopey: Most laps however are around 1'26.4-1'26.7 assuming I hit most apexes. The car with the stock tune still has a little "wild" in it so it's impossible (for me) to be consistently within a couple tenths of 1'26, but it's fun to drive.

Looks like, at least so far, I've got the heaviest car with the most HP, good thing we're not enabling tire wear. :sly: I'm curious to see how it all shakes out with the different cars. The elise is under half the weight of this beast.

I don't know if any of you can post your settings pages, but it would be fun to see what people used and take them out for test drives at a later date. Something like this:

Did you guys decide to allow AWD on purpose? Cause DNE guys banned it after a while.

Nope, I hadn't noticed they banned AWD cars. We'll give it a go as it is this week and make adjustments later as necessary.

Found the relevant line from their OP:

At the moment we are not using 4wd cars to eliminate a start advantage, but outside of that, any car is in play even racing cars.

Was planning on grid starts as we're doing 4 races and don't want to spend all that time circling track when we could be racing. I really don't care if people use an AWD for this event. Go for it. It's just for fun anyway. If we decide it's unfair we'll prohibit them in the future. Or we can have an all AWD week at some point. :dopey:

Other Notes:

The sprint races will be set to 6 laps and the feature races to 14 laps.

We are using grid starts for all races so make sure you aren't using a tranny trick that uses a very long first gear... your starts won't be pretty... right Lucas! :sly:

If you are not participating in the WRS Academy please do not enter the lounge before 21:30. We'll announce in this thread when the lobby is open for parity racing. Feel free to use the "B" lounge if you want to start practicing early.

We don't plan to pause long between races, but we'll allow a couple minutes in case a few cars need to be adjusted. If any cars run laps (unaffected by draft) under the target of 1'26.000 we'll ask them to tune down their cars. DNE uses a general rule of 1 PP = 1/10 per lap so we'll use that as a guideline.

👍 They'll catch on after a few of these I'm sure and hopefully word will spread. One "problem" is that all our D4 online regulars keep getting promoted so our grids now always look top heavy. That, in itself, shows you want online racing can do for your skill to complement time trials.

A quick question about the "target time". Should it be a time that we can hit regularly, or should that time be a potential "magic lap".
