Humans create rules now, what ever happened to God?
Give unto Ceasar what is Caesar's, give unto God what is God's.
Love thy enemy as thy neighbor.
Jesus was crucified because his teachings didn't fall in line with the morals the religious leaders of the time preached. He challenged the status quo taught by the
men who led the church. He taught forgiveness and love and teaching by example and compassion. When the men gathered to stone a sinner he challenged them to cast the first stone if only they were without sin themselves. He ended the fire and brimstone way of life.
Why can't you be the same? Isn't that what it means to be Christian, to honor him and strive to be like him?
Why do athiest have to exist? Why do people get to have opinions?
Because God, unlike many who claim to be his followers, believed humans should have free will.
Once again, limiting marriage to just man-woman unions doesn't limit any rights. Similarly, if a gay man is not allowed to marry another man, a straight man can't either - it doesn't de jure trample on gays' rights. On individual level, where legal issues about rights of the people are often looked at, the marriage is as accessible to anyone (law is blind, so to say).
Kind of like when no one was allowed to marry a black man, no rights were being infringed since it applied to everyone?
Also, European Court of Human Rights has ruled that gay marriage is not a human right:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/rel...human-right-according-to-European-ruling.html
Well, since it's a decided legal matter there is no argument then.
Wait, is marriage of any kind a human right? Civil, legal?
Again someone who doesn't understand the point of conservatism. Don't fix it if it ain't broke, not "don't change it at all". Slow, controlled change is the key.
It has taken decades to even get started, and it gets regulated the same as all other forms of marriage. Veeeeerrrrryyyy slow, and controlled.
Well, maybe I exaggerated that a bit, of course we plan on getting married at some point, but I know a lot of people who are "practically married", to the point that our government made new laws regarding "open marriage" (or how should I translate it) that gives partial inheritance rights and such to people who have lived together for a long time.
We call it common law marriage. The usual is 7 years of cohabitation.
I have to give in a bit, I see that gays may want to show their love in a will to get married as a commitement to each other similarly as heterosexual people want. I know, I cut the corners big time.
As well as have those closest to them have legal rights and access in medical situations and be able to speak on behalf of each other when they are not legally able to speak for themselves (drugged, injured, etc).
Is there really lack of people willing to adopt children in the US? Here the queues are years long, mainly composed of couples in their 40's who've realised they want to have children at an age too late or are infertile.
It isn't a lack of willing participants. It is a lack of willing, and good participants. There is also a lot of cases where adopting parents want babies, so kids who were taken from or lost their parents to death are stuck being unwanted.
That's a point, but I bet a lot of people would be against creating such a harem.
So, you would admit the children/population thing doesn't play as much into it as you make it sound? There is also an icky, "I don't like different things," factor?
Also, I couldn't picture anyone loving five woman at the same time. Really, that's absurd.
We also have TV shows about this.
I would probably be pretty indifferent about the whole issue, first when I heard about the concept of gay marriage I was pretty sceptic, but having given it some thought I saw it was none of my problem, be it legalised or not.
One of the biggest threats to society is those who turn a blind eye to the disenfranchisement of others that they don't associate with. It is why millions die in Africa every year.
Anyway, having seen the hostile and rude behaviour of its supporters towards all conservatives (to which I myself strongly identify), I just cannot identify myself to such people who support it.
Kind of like I'm a Christian and wish Christian conservatives would quit jumping into this thread with confused statements about their faith and an odd belief that Jesus supports hate speech and force? Yet, I still go to church because I come to my own opinions on my own, not because people I don't like happen to have something in common with me on an idea.
This is pretty much seen in one incident in a pub I encountered: there was a small group of people, some of whom I knew (well enough) debating about gay marriage. I thought that because I haven't got strong opinion about it so I don't join them in the debate. They started getting more loud, and then someone started insulting conservatives and conservative values (liberal socialist bogus, nazi card and such). That guy just insulted like a half of the people there, those whom he just had insulted as an argument for gay marriage. I just couldn't help but that argument just cost him all my respect towards him (as was the case between a lot of people and him too).
Him. Not a group he happens to share a common political idea with.
Making people have such reactions doesn't do well in trying to convince people for the cause. I know a lot of people who would support gay marriage, or at least have nothing against it, but seeing such behaviour by some of the supporters doesn't really make the others (ie. moderate conservatives) support it.
Google Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Pat Robinson, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, and Ranman20 with gay marriage and then explain how this explanation meshes with you being willing to argue their side of the issue.
I hope you see my point why I wondered that is gay marriage some people's war against conservatives.
Actually, what I hear is someone who says, "They say bad things about people who are like me and I don't like Us being insulted, so I won't agree with their case for equality, while at the same time ignoring that some of Us say bad things about Them and will defend the ideals held by Us despite the company it means I have to keep."
oh and yes I will not have a crush on her if she already in a relationship. She can be my friend but not my lover.
A crush is just an attraction, not being her lover. And they were referring to Jesus saying that if you see women other than your wife as attractive and can't control that feeling you should pluck out your eye, as it has offended you. Someone talking about God so much should know the reference and it's meaning.
It's meant to be a man and a woman. Why you think the first people on this earth was a man and a woman? To multiply right?
Because the species dies otherwise, thus it isn't here. Same thing happened to Shakers. No procreation, no continuing of the group.
If there was a reason why it should be homosexuality we would know by now.
Because we know everything about everything by now.
I follow god rules in the bible and no one will tell me otherwise even if it kills me.
So you never ate shrimp or bacon, and definitely not shrimp wrapped in bacon? And you find Fig Newtons to be the damn devil getting into tasty snack foods?
And that's why he have all these natural disasters from all these people in this world doing sinful acts including me.
What happened to the new covenant with Jesus? I don't see where God recalled the Holy Spirit and ended the forgiveness campaign in favor of fire and brimstone again. No wonder we're all screwed, God renigged on the deal.
The rainbow is a lie!!!!
Wait, no, the gays defiled the rainbow and so God will flood us all again. That's it.
Good luck Exorcet, there's no arguing with creationists; they simply don't listen to reason.
Careful with lumping people into groups and making derogatory statements.
Yes, natural disasters are the results of sin. Are you serious?
Homosexuality is the result of weak-minded people? Are you serious?
Hang on, my daughter has you covered.
I considered making up a counter-argument for the nutcase of the night, but thought better of it, because well, nothing can be done to help these poor creationists, they have already drowned in stupidity, logical fallacies and ignorance a long time ago.
Defending one group by throwing prejudiced insults at another does not make you appear to be the best and brightest either.
