This is my idea about these "official" videos showing us incredible too amazing to believe "PSP" ingame gameplay.... they say GT is coming to PSP... BUT they don't say for WHICH PSP! đź’ˇ

Imagine a GT Mobile 2 for a PSP 2 launch in 2010-2011! which could explain why they are not as good as GT5 Prologue, but way too good for a PSP1... do you catch my drift? :sly:

Yeah I catch your drift and it is about the longest shot grasp at a straw I could imagine...

Let's see... they have a game for a system that hasn't been announced or even had prelim hardware seen anywhere, in a state of VERY high polish that won't be released for years and they are showing videos of it now in relation to a completely differet product...

Or...

They are releasing bullshots and whatever the equivalent term for video is...

I know which I would bet on...

Not that crazy if think about it: you want to cut cost, developing two games in one: Imagine to be PD: you know (because anyway, you are a sister company to Sony) that the future PSP is around the corner, you were probably first in line to have a PSP 2 SDK for 1-2 years and you have developed a game platform for handheld that will be dumbed down for the PSP1 and reveals in its full glory for a PSP2. And this time you will be in time for the next big launch. I cannot explain better the amazing difference between what they show us in their OFFICIAL videos and what we see with our own eyes during E3 and GAMESCON09. These videos are not as good as GT5 prologue/GT5, but way BEYOND the PSP 1 capacities... why take a lot of time and resources to create such beyond PSP 1 "ingames" just to tricks us ???

When hardware is so far out as any PSP 2 would be (new consoles get info leaked and speced pretty early on) you wouldn't develop anything because you couldn't count on what would be in the final hardware. They might be developing concept stuff right now, like what they want to include, how many cars, menu systems etc, but they are not creating a game engine, I can garauntee that.

And if you go by path of least resistance, what's harder, building a game engine that works on some unknown hardware, then scaling it back for current hardware, or just running off a quick render on some computer somewhere? People seem to forget that in the world of tech, there is not just PSP, PS2, PS3 hardware available. You can quickly and easily source out a job to a company to create a quick and pretty video of something. Probably much easier than making your dev team work on creating a custom version of an already work in progress engine just to render off a slightly cleaner image that no one will see when this product hits (as it's not possible on the hardware).

Honestly, I can tell you don't know really how it all works (not insulting, just saying) and so I can see where you are getting your idea, but from someone who works on tech stuff a lot (not necessarily game programing but I have a good understanding of the process) your idea is beyond reasonable and not very feasible.

Sorry... that's just how it is.

I'm a professional Graphic designer, I even designed a PSP2 concept for a Kotaku.com contest which are very close to the PSP Go (when my concept is in closed position) :

Not the FMV, but the graphics we saw in the official videos and the producer's one (with the Enzo, the GTR, etc...) are really like a HD version of GT4 in 720p withh AntiAliasing x4... completely in the range of the expected power of a future PSP 2 specification. Remember that this PSP 1 is just a PS2 with much less power and ram, but games like God Of War or Monster Hunter are pretty close to their counterpart on PS2. I don't think it's irrelevant to think that a PSP 2 able to display 720p couldn't achieve these GT4 "HD" + x4 anti-aliased type of graphics that we see in these video (of course I don't mean the obvious FMVs - GTR vs ZR1). If we take the fact that the next PSP could be the same for the PS3: a PS3 handheld without the horsepower nor the ram.

Time will see if I'm right or not, but working in the graphic business and knowing the formidable exponential nature of computer power and miniaturisation, I don't see it completely irrelevant at all for a release in Q4 2010 or in 2011. Don't forget that the PS2 live along pretty well with the PS3 and still sell pretty well too. A PSP2 could do the same along with the PSP 1.

I have to disagree with you on that. Seriously, don't you think it is easier to the developers to create a video in a custom tech engine just to promote the new game than to create an entirely new game and engine for an entirely new console and release a video teasing us before the first game is out? not trying to be rude, but you have an incredible imagination, i'll give you credit for that :P

Dude I think there is a big difference between graphical design and programming. While the results share a lot (you want eye candy) they are vastly different at their foundations.

While I might mock up a high end picture, then drop it to a 3 color print and unsharpen it a bit to make the uglier version, that's not really how stuff is done in the programming world.

I mean the chances that there is actually firm enough specs on PSP2 hardware out there to make it anything but a total waste of time to write an engine for it are slim to none and slim went for a walk. I mean you have no idea how many shaders of what kind will be where, how many pipes you have to work with, what commands the processor will support and what optimizations will be available. You are VERY likely to just crank out something that requires SO much fixing to even work with, let alone take advantage of optimizations, the final hardware spec you end up rewriting it anyway.

Again, I see where you are coming from, but I can say with a very high level of certainty, it doesn't make sense with the way technology works.

My guess is that they have some way of outputing GTM in hd using the PS3's hardware. Simular to how Resistance: Retribution can output to your tv buy connecting the PSP to a PS3.

Why would Sony be thinking about PSP2 when they are releasing the new PSP GO this year? There is obviously still life in the platform.

there is still life in the PS2... which still today sell very well. so why not psp1 and 2 co-existing together? And this time PD would be READY for the D-Day, instead to wait 5 more years... ;-)
