This is an in-depth analysis of what features would make either franchise the real driving simulator or definitive racing game, whichever way one wants to look at it.;) There is also a poll for the GTP members to decide which franchise they believe has the better chance to reach these accolades. As such I've made a list with the usual things fans of both games would like in either game and I hope this will help everyone with their voting decision.

In this thread one may also find likely scenarios and personal opinions. Feel free to post your own scenarios and personal opinions. Try not to rubbish or ridicule others and keep the debates that may ensue clean. Thank you and happy posting.:)

EDIT: Although some forum members have done their best to derail this thread and ridicule it or me, I would like to thank all the people that contributed and are contributing and ask you to please ignore the disruptive behaviour of such characters. Cheers! 👍

GT5 (after more code optimizations, game requires full installation on HDD, with patches and DLC at cost)
PD can get away with endless of the above as every PS3 has a built-in HDD

or

GT6 (likely by 2011, game requires full installation on HDD, still on PS3 which will be going strong)

-tyre marks
-reverse lights
-backfire sound and flame animations
-car model undercarriage bump-mapped or 3D and suspension in 3D
-full damage meaning just as good stock car damage as NASCAR or WRC
-improved full damage models with deeper deformation
-car upgrades visible in cockpit
-Livery editor albeit limited if be
-all spectators close enough to be visible in 3D
-all trees close enough to be visible in 3D
-Porsche
-McLaren F1
-name of tyre manufacturer on the side of the tyre
-lug nuts
-add other championships as DLC
-add cars and tracks as DLC

FM3 (after more code optimizations, game requires full installation on HDD, with patches and DLC at cost)
T10 would find it difficult to tell all XBOX 360 arcade owners that the only way FM3 is playable is if they buy a HDD but it may work

or

FM4 (likely by 2011, game requires full installation on HDD, comes in a 3 DVD set, possibly on the next generation XBOX which has a built-in HDD)

-minimum 10 car grid
-same high quality car model used thoughout the whole game
-all car model errors corrected
-car model undercarriage bump-mapped or 3D and suspension in 3D
-moving aero parts
-Nissan GT-R
-pit crew and pit stops
-backfire sound and flame animations
-photo mode inside the cockpit
-ability to look properly inside the cockpit and move the POV position inside the cockpit
-gear shifting animations and up to 900 degrees wheel turn depending on car
-all cockpit displays animated
-all track LOD issues visible in replays corrected
-improved damage with more likelihood of bodywork coming loose and deeper crumple zone deformation
-name of tyre manufacturer on the side of the tyre
-ability to race with top up or down in convertibles
-add cars and tracks as DLC

Except there will be about 2 or 3 other Forza before we see GT6 :D

Nah... at most, there will be one Forza in between GT5 and GT6.

GT6 isn't going to take as long as GT5. Probably about half the time, if that even.

They would find it very difficult indeed, since Microsoft—the company that owns both Turn 10 and the platform—specifically prohibit it.

Umm, no.

Yeah, honestly. GT6 by 2011? Too much daydreaming.

Not so sure, most of the features will probably make it in for GT5 so GT6 could be within a year or 10, just depends how many more cars and tracks KY wants to add and how quickly PD does them. For example if GT6 was released in 2011 with just an extra 200 cars and 5 extra locations and perhaps an extra licenced championship it would be more than possible. I know I would buy another GT game if it had only that much more than the previous. They just have to get GT5 as close to perfection as possible and from then on the GT series will be a breeze to make and sell.

Also, on the next generation XBOX, FM4 will be tough competition so it will be close.;)

I'm sorry, but I don't see the point of this thread. All you've done is create a wishlist for GT6 and Forza 4, when we a) don't even know whats in GT5 and Forza 3 and b) we don't even know if there will be a GT6 and Forza 4.

PD won't have much to do for GT6, so we could see it in 2012-13.
I think Forza will be playing catch-up after GT5.
Turn 10 should move onto the PS3, since the 360 has basically reached its potential, as I said previously.

No way! I don't want that crap on my gorgeous PS3... Jeez! lol :yuck:

First, the added features are the only ones that haven't been confirmed yet. Second, use your imagination. What if? :)

By the way, I will note on the first post the features that get confirmed along the way.👍

I hope you are joking, they're both good games in their own right with their own strengths and weaknesses, much like the consoles. And no T10, a developer owned by MS will never be allowed to develop a FM game for the PS3 console.

Without GT 5 actually being in my hands it's hard to say for sure, but currently IMO the only area where Turn 10 needs to catch up to Polyphony is Graphics and car count.

There are plenty of areas where Polyphony needs to catch up to Turn 10.

They can just release that stuff as DLC for GT5, and probably make more money in the process.

MS aren't going to release a new Xbox any time soon. The only reason they're doing as well as they are right now is because they're "the most affordable console." They're not eager to become the least affordable console. Not in this economy.

In fact, they have Natal in the works specifically to attempt to extend the life of the 360, and it won't be out until late 2010 at the earliest. There's no point in trying to persuade people to buy a $200 accessory for their $200 console if you're just going to turn around and obsolete the entire platform a few months later. If you did that, do you honestly think anyone would buy your new platform, or anything else you had to sell for the foreseeable future?

We won't see a new Xbox (or new anything else) until 2012 or later.

I think we don´t see a FM4 on the 360... I think it´s coming with the next gen MS console... And for sure it would look better than GT5 then... But I don´t wanna know what monster will PD bring with the next gen hardware after the PS3...

I'd be surprised if GT6 is on the PS3 to be honest, I think GT5 is pushing the hardware to the limits as it is,so GT6 is either gonna be GT5 with different cars,or it wont be made until PS4 is out, because the PS4 will be able to handle higher numbers of cars on the track (13-16 is NOT enough,22 i want at least) along with the things like skidmarks etc

Graphics? Absolutely. Car count? Hell no! :yuck: I'm willing to say those 400 cars of Forza 3 will be much more interesting and fun to drive than the 1000 cars of GT5. That's what I like about Forza, few cars but the ones I would love to drive.

They would find it very difficult indeed, since Microsoft—the company that owns both Turn 10 and the platform—specifically prohibit it.

While that is their stance, Football manager 06 I believe required one and they have relaxed the rule for MMORPGs as well. Just like the size limit on XBLA games, MS can and does bend/break the rules when they see fit.

Other than Porsche—which is clearly a licensing issue rather than a car-count issue—which cars does FM3 include that you wish were in GT5 because they're "more fun to drive"? It seems to me that GT5 will have basically all of the cars that FM3 does, plus an additional 600 or so that might also be "fun to drive." :)

Also, keep in mind that it's entirely possible that SIM was referring to the number of cars on the track, since Forza is lagging way behind in that regard as well. ;)

True enough, but every time they do, they're cutting the market for that game effectively in half. (They've said that the Arcade is the most popular model.) More to the point, every time they make an exception, that just further proves the Arcade is not "good enough."

AFAIK, there has always been an exception in place for MMOs, which itself is a tacit admission that a system without the HDD really doesn't cut it.

gt5 has been in production for 5 yrs, your estimate is way off
Kaz said the main reason GT5 has taken so long is because they were starting from scratch, and the next game built on the engine wouldn't take nearly as long.

Edit: Personally, I still feel that rather than release GT6 for the PS3 using largely the same engine and vehicle models, they should just keep GT5 fresh with a steady flow of DLC a la Burnout, and save GT6 for the PS4.

so far gt has released two games per system, it would be quiet silly for pd not to drop gt6 on the ps3. its so much easier to add to a game than to make it from scratch.

by the way i voted for forza by mistake

I'm aware that GT5 has been in production for 5 years.

If they make GT6 for the PS3, which is likely going to be the case, you're insane if you think it's going to take another five years for it. It'll be 3 years max.

that i understand, but a yr seems way to short

how long after gt1 was gt2 released?
same with 3 and 4?

never said it will take 5 yrs, read previous post

Nobody said a year. I said half of the time GT5 took, which equates to about 2.5 years.
