I believe that it is time to give a huge congratulations and thanks to the hard working crew of Polyphony Digital to give us a driving experience like no other. I must remind people that without the Gran Turismo game, and the support that Kaz has given it, there wouldnt be consoles sims as we know them, and there wouldnt be this website. I think that people need to realize that. And the people who are very "critical" of the game seem to not understand the effort, or dedication it is to pull off a game like this. So many critics, but where are the video games that they have made to be such "critical" in the first place? It is so easy to say how something should have been done, than to be the person who actually is making the game and has to do the hard task of making the game. I saw comments from some reviewers about tracks looking painted (lol), and being upset with having low powered cars in the begining of the game (its called progression). But the biggest problem of the criticisms is that its a shame that we have somehow decided how 6 years is done, without knowing what it actually takes to make a game in the first place, to me comments about the devlopement time irks me the worst. But many reviews did actually get what the video game is, and judged it on an actual fair account, and saw it as an incredible experience that no other racing game offers.

So I just want PD to be congratulated on making an amazing game. A game that millions of people are enjoying.

Well said. Imperfections are just that, imperfections, not giant gaping cracks across the playability of the game. There's still some fantastic gaming to be had underneath the flaws.

It is pretty clear to me that GT5 is the best you can get
for now. it is the pinnacle in so many areas for this gen of console. and it will probably remain on top until GT6 come out, could be on PS4.

Thanks PD. 100% respect toward the attitude and hard work in the pass decade. We can feel the love and passion that you guys put into the game. It is all these making GT such a unique title like no others.

Amen, the main reason that I held out for a ps3 was this and socom... and now I won't be bored for 5+ years lol, won't be buying other games for quite some time now. My only complaint with this game is that my first generation rx-7, it appeared in the second game as the gt turbo (j version) with the option to put a bodykit on it, at the time I wished it was the 13b american version and didn't use the series one body (should of been series 2 or 3 only mistake I noticed in the game) but now ill be happy with any version and would pay a REDICULous amount (100 american) to ne able to dl it... no biggie though as I have one in my real garage...two outside and one at grandmas farm lol

GT5 is the best racing game on any consoles. It didn't meet the ridiculously high expectations, but for the RRP of £40, it is absolutely great value for money. I think people forget that, which is forgivable after such a long wait.

The game is packed with features, cars, tracks. Replayability is huge, almost endless. Not to mention that it's gorgeous (ignoring the standards).

Massive thanks and congrats to PD, for making one of the best value games, ever.

Tuned Gallardo, Le Sarthe, Night. Can't beat it. Oh wait, yes you can, add a pack of 15 more beautifully recreated cars.

Thanks PD.

I said thank you in the form of cash which I paid for the game. That's how consumer products work... it's not like this was some gift or something which was given to me which I should be thankful for...

It's kind of creepy really how some people respond to GT as if it's some sort of personal relationship they have with Kaz and PD and it's a gift or something....

What's creepy is some guy who chases down almost any positive thread to throw some sand in it, as if it was wrong to state a heartfelt opinion. Well... for anything else is fine, just not Gran Turismo. ;)

Anyhow, I want to add my congratulations to Kaz and his team for living in their offices for years, putting up with SONY and all the flaming from the net. GT5 is really something special.

Now, about that level system, economy, missing brakes and transmission tuning, and online...

It has some flawss yes, but it's damn addicting. It'll be racing with my fellow Danes tomorrow in our own little championship and hopefully it'll be a blast. :0)

Without GT there wouldnt be a GT website, I hadn't thought of that, praise be to the Lord of GT for making it possible to have a website dedicated to the game.

How does anyone know how much effort and dedication anyone put into this game. They could have been sat around enjoying the fruits of there previous labours for a few years, then whipped out an unfinished product at the end knowing the fan base was already there to buy any old tosh.

Its happens in most fields of entertainment, no reason to think it was any different here is there? Make good product, follow it up with iterations of generic garbage based on former glories.

Pretty much everything in the OP is opinion masquerading as fact. Apart from without GP there would be no GP website. Thats true.

Yeah there are afew minor nitpick type of flaws (shadows, standards) but every single 'great' game has them. GT5 is probably the most complete game i have ever played this generation. I just find it funny that the game looks insanely gorgeous and people nitpick things like shadows(self shadowing is rough but doesnt change a good looking game to ugly) saying the game is downright ugly... Technically every game must be ugly if you nitpick to that extent. Plus I doubt they are happy people :P

Main thing is they improved on everything and took the genre a little more forward. Its perhaps the best game package I have ever brought. The variety is greater than ever and most of all the game is super addictive.

What would you say makes this game so much better than the last GT?

If you mean GT4 with the last GT:
The number of cars in a race.
The better AI.
The increased resolution.
The introduction of weather effects.
The introduction of day/night effects.
Introduction of Online play

If you mean GT5P with the last GT:
The number of cars.
The better AI.
The introduction of weather effects.
The introduction of day/night effects.
60 fps (framerate was bad in GT5P even with one car)
Online play (oh, it was bad in GT5P)

Nah, for £40 it's far to short, there simply aren't enough events, I've almost finished A-spec already, I've done the special events that interest me, the samba vans can die in a fire tbh, I'm just waiting for a Formula Gran Turismo to appear in the used car lot so I can do the only A-spec even I have left.

GT4 took me months to complete, this a little over a week and screw grinding the races over and over to unlock the endurance events, by the time I unlock them I would have done the equivilant of 100 endurance races.

I'll probably check out online but in my opinion untill damage is implimented there is not much point as there is nothing stoping people simply ramming you constantly.

GT5s only redeeming feature is that deep down it's still a GT game and the driving at times can be simply sublime, all the rest, pretty terrible frankly.

Pretty rubbish list of "improvements" since the game only has about 20% of the content that existed in GT4 and lacks many features that existed in the older game, plus I'd hardly call the AI Better, they are still totally useless but now like to pit maneuver you too.

So we got weather, day night cycle on some events, improved graphics(not something I care about that much it's more about the driving feel imo) and online play...yay :P

I join the topic poster in congratulating Kaz and his team to implement such a game on a device as limited as the Sony Playstation 3. Try to play a new PC game on a five year old PC to see what I mean.

Almost everything in GT is improved. We didn't have ANY cockpits before.

We have a track maker. An improved photo mode. Damage (limited, admittedly). You can complain about A-spec being short, but you're limiting yourself by not re-racing events in different models. There's also practice mode (one make race), drifting, the whole online interface, arcade mode, again adding huge depth if you choose to go that way. Really, all that for 40 bones. Bargain.

I don't think some people allow themselves to be happy. You say you care about the driving "feel", so you should be chuffed, because that's one thing they got spot on.

I don't drive with the cockpit view since you can't hide the steering wheel, I set my rig up close to my TV as possible so it's like my TV is my windshield, looks stupid to see my hands and my wheel and then the virtual hands and the virtual wheel, would have much preferred if they had just added a dashboard cam with a view over the bonnet for all cars than wasting time modeling massively overcomplicated cockpit views for a few cars.

Still eludes me why the include a roof cam but no bonnet cam, totally counter-intuitive if you ask me.

Photo mode, ppft it's a driving game not Pokemon Snap - Car Edition...seriously :P

I disagree. There is one giant gaping crack with respect to playability. In all previous GT releases, game progression was a matter of skill. This version reduces it to luck, which is unacceptable.

Secondly, 800 cars but only 30 at a time?
And I cannot even change the rims on any of them?

I have to buy a car I don't want/need just to get the color to paint another car I have?
Lets say I want a Jaguar XJ-220 in Madiera Metallic, HOW AM I GOING TO GET THAT???? Or a Speed 12 in Chameleon Purple?

GIANT gaping hole, in my opinion.

Yes I know some people like the idea of being surprised by the occasional car popping up that they like, however that does not outweigh the idea of paying $100 for a game and being entirely unable to get the cars I want. 1000 cars??? Someone needs a punch in the nose.

Dude, you couldn't change the colour of used cars AT ALL in GT4. Seriously.

People like you.

Yep great game just one problem:

My copy seems to be missing most of the events. I seem to only have 45 events in my copy (compared to hundreds in Forza 3 and indeed GT4).

My copy also seems to be missing most of the races in those events (for some strange reason my copy has events consisting of just once race in many events... strange).

Those that have the FULL version of GT5 with a reasonable amount of events could you let me know what its like to play this fully realised copy of the game as I'm dying to know.

And lastly - isn't there already another kissy botty thread somewhere else :P
