Dude your idea is great, but why Monday? People have lifes, we have to go to work, school, attend to families, and various responsabilities!
I bet that if you do this thing on the weekend you'd get a great response!

Monday evenings are always open. Weekends are usually busy.

I could do it on a Monday night, but it would have to be about 30 minutes to an hour later. I'm not usually home until just before 9pm eastern.

I would have been interested in this race but just now found out about it.

Using a hp/weight restriction for the car choice would probably be better then trying to find a car that will lap in a certain amount of time.

UPDATE

Since there has been some appreciable interest in this event I'm going to open things back up. Unfortunately, due to last-minute work obligations I won't be able to make this race happen tonight. What I'll do in the interim (until we can figure out a better day to make this happen) is temporarily move the date until next Monday. Then we can discuss moving the day of week, time, etc. below.

Here is a list of the items that have been proposed to change (and how I think we need to proceed):

1. Date: I'd prefer a weeknight, but if enough people want to be involved and request weekend I'm willing to do that. For the time being I'm just going to use next Monday (2/7)

2. Time: 9:30pm is fine with me. Appropriate changes will be made above.

3. Permitted Vehicles: I originally proposed bringing vehicles that could lap at an arbitrary time (2:15) to keep the racing tight. Someone has proposed using a HP/Weight restriction instead. Is it possible to keep the racing close with this type of restriction? What would be a good ratio to use to keep it fairly close to the A-Spec race?

I'll join.

HP/Weight restrictions sound much better. Would 315 hp be good?

I vote a weekday as I will, guaranteed, make it.

HP/Weight restriction is the only way to keep the race close unless we use a spec car.

I do have a 315hp/1000kg car I can test out to see what kind of lap times it will do.

i think what i'll do above is strikeout the section regarding 2:15minute laps and put in the following place holders:

min. weight: TBD
max. hp: TBD
tire restrictions: Sports Soft or less

i'll play around with things tonight and try to figure out good hp/weight settings to keep things as close to the original GV300KM event as possible. If anyone else wants to do that also and post up your thoughts we can discuss in more detail.

Pretty sure we're in an off-week for GT Academy next week, so yeah count me in. :)

I used a mildly modified S2000 on Sport Hards when I ran the actual A-Spec race and barely won by .600 of a second over the RX-7.

I tested both a heavily tuned Spoon CR-Z and a mildly tuned Ford RS200 that met the 315 hp / 1000 kg requirements and came very close to my projected lap times. I think that we should just pin the limits as noted above.

A few more items to address:

Mechanical Damage? Seeing as it's an endurance race and damage needs to be addressed in the pits I think picking "heavy damage" might add another level of excitement to the race. Thoughts?

Aids? I'm compelled to turn everything off. Thoughts?

Penalties? Highest setting unless someone offers a good reason not to.

Sounds awesome. I just watched a replay of one of my endurances races. During pit stops you can see the crew working away. Pretty cool.

Heavy damage sounds good to me.

The only aid that is a must for turning off is the skid recovery. I would leave ABS on though. As for the rest I don't think they help you as much as they slow you down.

As for Penalties I'm not sure if they should be turned on or not because they don't really work that well. The other day I was racing and I make a turn and someone dive bombs into the same turn, I end up hitting them on the side and get a ramming penalty and they drive off with nothing.

I'll be driving an Amemiya AsparaDrink with Sports Soft. I'm excited for this race!

I'm really glad to see the interest in this event pick up. If people have fun I have no problem turning this into a regular event. I thought about it for a while this morning and it might be cool to mirror a lot of the A-Spec endurance races and their setups (while still respecting everyone's time). I'll think about it over the next few days and then decide after the race Monday which direction to head.

I don't think there's a setting to prohibit ABS. I'll keep it if there is.

Fair enough. I honestly haven't spent that much time in lobbies with any penalties. For a moment I was thinking that penalties and damage were related, but I guess they're not.

Should we set a requirement for street cars?
So here's where I'm at with restrictions: At the end of the day I don't really care who drives what, I'd just like to set up the closest race we can reasonably get. Undoubtedly there are going to be cars that meet the regulations posted (< 315hp, >1,000kg) that are faster than others. At the same time there are going to be people who are just better drivers than others.

I'm completely and 100% open to putting a street-car only restriction on this race. There just needs to be an easy way to figure out what's "street" and what's not. I looked at the car list to figure out what an Amemiya Asparadrink was because I had no idea and it's an RX7. So does that count for street or race?

Whatever we do I just want everyone to know that the spirit of this event is a close endurance race that mirrors the A-Spec Grand Valley 300KM endurance race. I averaged 2:15:xxx lap times in the event and had a very close race, FWIW. I'll have fun if I come in last place (which I probably will, considering the car I'm probably going to use) so it's not that big of a deal.

I'm also open to change and fully expect to learn a lot from this event that could be used to help build a better 2nd event, if there is demand.

I think we should keep it completely and 100% a street-car only restriction race and let each individual tune their cars to his or her best ability. What do you guys think?

The R.E. Amemiya Asparadrink RX-7 is a Super GT-300 race car.

Having a production car restriction would be reasonable that way there should be a better variety of cars in the race.

I am very new to GT5. Can I come in to just watch next Monday? IF you don't mind that, what do I have to do? My PlayStation Network name is the same as I use on this form.
