I personally use Deep Forest to test my cars. The change in elevation, flat low and high speed turns, and bumps give a reasonable all around test of a car and well a setup can adapt to varying conditions.

I did a Chassis Restoration on the car, it changed the handling a bit. So the adjustments are a bit softer now than before. I imagine as the Chassis gets softer your tune gets stiffer to compensate as I had been doing for the longest time.

Transmission Ranges Are: Short Tracks I.E. Laguna or Deep Forest 193(mph)

Times Are Online with Tire Wear on, all Aids off except ABS 1 and DS3 Controller. And Racing Softs Equipped.
Deep Forest: 1:10:140
Mazada Laguna 1:21:XXX - 1:22:XXX

I just tuned my RM Camaro a few days ago. I usually do my tuning on Nurb GP/D, but Ill give it a few laps on Deep Forest and see how close we are. From what I can remember our tunes are quite different, but Ill definitely post up my tune & times after I make a few laps.
 
I'm going to try your tune out tonight. I love the looks of the car, but I have yet to find a setup that makes me want to use the car. I hope this one works.
 
I did forget to add that my brake bias is 7 front and 5 in the rear.

I have not tried other tunes on it to compare. Nor did I use any for my initial setup. As stated I could not find any good data on here or anywhere on comparable lap times to mine, so I was hoping that maybe people would post what they have done (pictures hopefully) and tell what difference in setup differs from mine.

I am looking to improve. Tonight I may do some drastic changes to the car to see how it goes.

On Deep Forest I have been having most of my issues with the last corner. I just can't seem to get my entry and exit right. I have done it perfect several times but I have problems replicating it each and every lap. The biggest two deals is I come in hot, and my rear tire will hit the dirt just enough while turning close to the rumble strip to spin me around and into the pits. Or I enter more cautious like and come out with a slower exit speed. Typically when I nail the corner correctly my speed is around 121-125mph. When I am more conservative, 112-117 mph.

Please do let me know how my setup works for you! The hard thing is just how different people like things. Some may work for others, Some may not.
 
I painted mine the same as yours too! It is one of my favorites, Next to my TVR RM. I can't get on the ps3 till Feb 22, so I will check my tuning and then try yours. I suggest going with Sport Hard tires to really experience the Camaro experience to its fullest. I'll get back with you on this mate, thanks for your post. It is always a pleasant surprise to "meet" like-minded gamers and irronically none of my online friends care for the RM 69 Camaro nearly as much as I do! Whaaat?!
 
Had a Track day with a fellow Camaro Rm fan. We made some great strides in the tuning. I identified one of my issues and solved it. And got to my 1:10:XXX mark!

I should mention since I failed to do so in the earlier post, I use only one driving aid and that is abs. And it stays on setting 1.


Here is the new Lap times and few pictures of my car and my friends. Lowest recorded is now 1:10:923

You can see I made drastic changes and started evening out my spring rates with more in the front. This solved my issue of the last turn and spinning out when my rear contacts the rumble strip. However the LSD Settings were suggested by my friend (black Z-28) and I found my turning improved quite a bit in some areas. I still believe some more finer tuning is required. I believe some more time can be found in the Trans gearing area as well.

Once again, the Camaro is still a joy to drive, and I will be taking hat I ve been testing with it and applying it to my other tunes. I may start a new thread on my Challenger RM as well.

I almost got into the 1:10.xxx fan club myself. Off by a few hundreths. Based off of Kalmiya's suspension. Few small differences though. My original setup made the car turn & corner very nice, but lacked the exiting ablility. Finding this balance is important for great lap times. I change my setup a little every day I drive it.

When I first started driving this thing 2 days after the game came out, I was running the ride hight as high as possible in the back, & as low as possible in the front. It made it push really really bad, but it gave it a bad ass stance. I was going for style bonus. It didn't matter anyway because it was still faster then anything else in the hp category I was running. Now things got a little more competitive & complicated.

Wish GT5 had more old RM's available. They got Chevy, dodge, and... they dropped the ball by not having a Ford.

Yes Indeed a nice Flat black! Specially with a flat grey to complement it. Glad we could get those, I'll have more later.

I completed the 200 miles Endurance today in the Camaro. Twas easy as pie. I have not messed with the settings at all. I think as of right now they are awesome.

Hopefully we can have a few more people join in on their times and setups!
 
This probably isn't the place to ask this question, but where do you get the Z/28 RM from? Can't find it anywhere. As real newbies we are really struggling to find our way through GT5. Desperate to find a car that might help us through the Historic Car Cup race.
 
How did you get that much power??? Mine is stuck at around the 460bhp mark.....When I RM'd it the power dropped :( That Sucks!

In total I believe the Camaro and the Race Modification will come in around 300,000 or so. That is including getting all of the other upgrades (engine and tires)

Before I bought this crazy expensive car, I would just say send the Camaro to me, and I would do the RM for you and set the suspension.

Add me if you ever wanna race or have some tips.


For what it is worth, I used my 70 Challenger R/t RM to win the historical cup the first time. And actually here is a picture of it!

That setup seems kinda stiff to me. But I use a DS3 myself. Do post a screen shot whenever you get a chance!
 
I saw this thread last night and since, I too, love deep forest and tune cars... thought I'd give it a try. I had built one a while back when I was collecting RM cars and it still had 0 miles on it so now it's had 5-6 oil changes and I'm still tuning the suspension.

My best lap so far is 1:14.090" but that's with tuned suspension on stock 387HP broke in motor. Hope the end result is a good bit quicker :)
 
Thanks for the info budious. We had the Camaro. It was that conversion to RM that had us stumped. Working on the changeover and all the upgrades, then look for some tuning tips. Cheers.
 
Actually I have no idea what stock HP was on this since it was so long ago I bought, 387HP was with Engine Tune 2 installed which couldn't be unequipped. Anyways, another one of these cars that once you get over 450HP on it you really start to notice that Semi-Race flywheel start kicking up handling problems, wish they really give us the option to down spec it.

Running 1:12.2" on 484HP at the moment, the less the power the better, stupid flywheel. :)

If you had a supercharger equipped before mod then it was unequipped, but it's still on your cars owned components, you might just need to recheck it.

Got tired of running the car at Deep Forest so took it out for a spin at some other places, I'm impressed how well it turned out.

Took 2nd place at Laguna Seca in A-Spec American Championship, only that darn Chapperal 2J Race Car '70 ahead of me and I was on its tail the whole time. A little practice and 5 perfect laps could win that event. 1:24.192" at 532HP (no ECU) and 1:23.725" at 565HP (with ECU) were my best laps there.

Took 4th against the race cars in Dream Car Championship at Tokyo R246. Ran several 1:41" laps and best was 1:40.816" @ 565HP, for perspective that's faster than most GT500 cars in this game on stock settings for that track.

7:02" on the Nurburgring Nordschleife first run, one little mishap that probably cost me 5-7", could probably run 6:55" on a cleap lap with ease.

Up to a 1:11.9" followed by a 1:11.6" on the very next lap on Deep Forest now, getting closer... :)

:( i can only manage 1:17's but even if i were to get consistant laps no way i'd win the historic cup? i've tried every car i have, either too slow or too 'loose' im not good anyway so this is pissing me off! also, you said tranny 186kmh.. thats like 115mph :?
 
I assume he meant 186mph, think I was using 217 or 224mph on tran, and had ECU off so car was 532HP so wheels would not spin as much when I was doing 1:11.6" with mine, but my tune is much different from his setup. I will post it on my tuning thread sometime soon when I'm sure it's good as I can get it.
 
Try raising rear damper extetion to about 8 or 9. I tried this on some of my other cars lastnight. My Z06 was hooking up great exiting corners (normaly it's very difficult to exit under power). Then again, I did have a few to drink, and my cars seem to handle better when I'm drinking vs when I'm not... Just like my cars in real life....

Theory is:
stiffer the rear extension, the better contact the rear wheels have with the road.
Side effect is weight transfer to the rear would be less.
Since more weight transfer to the rear usually results in an oversteer, the side effect seems to be a good thing.... in theory anyways........
 
I'd have to disagree with most of that. Find the correct spring rate first, adjust the dampers until you have the ideal amount of grip, but adjust them in an equal rate, as if you truly found the best spring rates for you car then it should be able to run on DE/DC 1:1 and FR/RR 1:1 to maintain the spring rate ratio so it's only purpose becomes adjusting the speed at which weight transference takes place. Generally when DE/DC is 1:1, increasing both reduces grip, some speed increase may be measured, some instability may come from the reduced grip; reducing both in 1:1 has the opposite effect, increasing grip, and perhaps reducing speed if it's too great but lap times will be more consistent. Generally when people need to set DE+1/DC it's because the spring rate is too stiff, and when they feel the need for DE/DC+1 it's because the spring rate is too soft. Same with A/R, if the spring rates are truly balanced then best results come from 1:1 increments until such point as the effective cornering spring rate becomes too stiff decreasing lap times.

Very interesting, I like your approach to tuning. Out of curiosity, how do you go about setting up initial spring rate? I usually end up having a soft roll bar up front 9/10 times and I didnt really think it was necessary but it was giving me the best results. If there is a better way to find optimal spring rate, I would be very interested to hear about it.
 
I may try the damper 1:1 ratio thing later on and see how that goes. I ve only been doing small increments far as testing goes.

As stated before, This is a discussion for the Camaro , and I like to see people share their Camaro Setups here, as well as picture of their lap times to show.

I ve seen alot of various setups with many claims, and it is hard to tell if tunning to the micro setting really makes a difference.

Most of the time I play in third person view of the car, and most of the interior perspectives of other premiums I had tried hadn't really impressed me, but I'm liking it on this one.
