A plead to PD to turn ASM off in Nascar Driving School

Whoever's idea it was to force it on was a bloody moron. It makes the events virtually unbeatable, and is not even accurate to Nascar standards, which do not even allow driving aids. Anyone that got these done before the update that forced them on had a walk in the park. I silvered most of them with the intent of going back and finishing them gold later, and now I can barely achieve silver even because the ASM keeps bogging the car down unnecessarily.

Having to watch the pit sequence that takes a minute every retry is also painful.

Well if this isn't proof, I don't know what is. I remembered I have a second PS3 that is only on update 1.05, so I copied my save over to that PS3. I did the 3 Nascar Driving School Advanced events with Gold 1-2-3, first try on them all, doing nothing differently. This was possible because I was able to set ABS to 0, effectively turning off ASM. They really need to revert this change, as I feel really bad for those that don't have access to a non-updated GT5.

Oops... nm, I see you can't set the ABS to zero either.

These events were really hard, but someone must've completed them with the settings the way they are... otherwise, why would they throw them in there?

It makes no sense to me to change it, especially since Nascar rules don't even allow driving aids to begin with. Maybe they thought the events were too easy? They should have changed the position of the cars then, not forced the ASM nonsense.

I golded them all with my ds3 after the update. It's totally possible. I got #3 in about 6 tries but it was lucky. #1 was the worst, let the 3rd place car bump you from behind as you enter the track and that will get you up to speed in no time and then you just have to draft to first place. #2 took the most tries, but it was mostly just due to stupid mistakes on my part and bumping. I found the vettel challenge much harder and I only bronzed that.

it isn't a particulary hard challenge, just a matter of precision and some luck.

they have to do it because the AI sucks so bad that they can't make a challenging race with equal machineries.

this chalenge sucks now..... its not even fun to do... you only get paid once, so whats the pointof wasting 5 hours for nothing? vellle is easier then this

I've got a gold on all of them before the update but I have to do them over because something happened to my save file. I have them all completed now with a gold except the very last one. I cant beat that one for the the life of me.

I'm in the same situation. I golded everything in A-Spec, all licenses and almost everything in the special events. Two of the remaining races I need to gold are the first and third one of the Nascar Driving School Advanced.

I managed to silver the first one this morning (by luck) because I had one of the cars bumped from behind. Without this trick, I find it very hard to gold this race. Same for the third race: it's very hard to draft 100% perfectly all the time, no matter whether you are using DS3 or a wheel.

To stay on topic: If it's not possible to turn ABS off, it's even harder.

Why?? I did the NASCAR challenge on my profile (when it was 1.03) and got gold on every single event. So I went straight to expert on my sons profile yesterday (he's Lvl 23), on version 1.08 and guess what, GOLD GOLD & GOLD.

If you can't do the NASCAR challenge, you seriously can't drive a real car (the X1 isn't real BTW, it's a fantasy car that drives like it's from NFS!).

So true. The vettel challenge is a joke in comparison to the last nascar special event. Also the vettel challenges are good fun while the nascar races are just stupid and boring. Nascar is the crappiest crap I have ever seen. Is Nascar suppose to be motorsport? Don't make me laugh.
I only need to finish that last special event, but there is no way I spend so much time with a retarded nascar race. If PD is not fixing this crap soon then I deinstall my data and finish the race on an earlier version where you can still switch ABS off.

These Nascar challenges are not so hard as they are described in this topic. I run these yesterday all on my 2nd account and got them all done within 30 mins. Its all about slipstreaming...

Its entirely possible to win this with ASM on. Of course its easier with ASM off, but try running all of the Vettel Challenge with ASM and all other aids on, it becomes harder.

Golded them on 1.05 (main PSN) and on 1.07 (2nd PSN).
It's not impossible, you just need some time.

You used to be able to, I don't think you can turn off the ABS anymore.

Ah, that changes things. First time I ran the challenge I was so upset that my speed dropped up to 80km/h on corners compared to the ai, so no drafting would ever help. Then I noticed there was that little option On, and I couldn't get rid of it, until I realized I could just turn off ABS.

Removing the ability to remove ABS level is absurd especially when the car in real life doesn't have it.

I got lucky on the pitstop race, thank god because that one has the most annoyance.

At Indy I don't know how I won except by braking late and drafting.

At the final Daytona race, it took me the longest but try with active steering at strong and draft the lowes car for as hard and long as you can until you catch up to the pack, then it's all luck, patience and the skin of your teeth.

i agree the challenge is crap. having abs and asm on a nascar that in real life forbids such stuff is stupid for 'the real driving simulator'......

here is what i did. advance challenge #1. 100+times then just started swerving into track immediately and getting hit by 3rd car. draft to first. took a couple times, but i got it. challenge 2. is real easy. dive under them when they brake. did it on second try as first try was used to figure out gears. 3rd challenge was easy gold. just draft. 1 try. all with a ds3. thanks PD for a nascar ticket i guess.

I agree. I thought the point of video game updates was to give the audience what it wants out of the game, be it support, fixed glitches or upscaled/more cars, better online experience or whatever.

Dear PD: since WHEN did your players ask for a harder NASCAR challenge by including unrealistic elements? I'll eat my words if I can find one person who says "I'm glad this challenge is 10 times harder. I wanted to spend hours I could be spending gaining new cars and doing actual circuit racing being a ****ty version of Jeff Gordon and drinking Bud Light."

I also golded after the update . The last was by far the hardest. But took me 5 times and got it done, Not that hard to do really done all the others on first or second try. And im by far not the best driver by any means

Obviously you dont follow world news.....

Chaps... I know that many of you are having success by pulling off of pit road immediately and hoping the car slams into you, but I found it much less difficult to simply remain low until a number of the cars pass you and THEN pop into the draft. This gives you more speed to find by drafting your way up the pack rather than getting lucky with a rear end collision.

The irony being that you're complaining about realism, and "winning" by essentially killing someone. haha...
