A plead to PD to turn ASM off in Nascar Driving School

Chaps... I know that many of you are having success by pulling off of pit road immediately and hoping the car slams into you, but I found it much less difficult to simply remain low until a number of the cars pass you and THEN pop into the draft. This gives you more speed to find by drafting your way up the pack rather than getting lucky with a rear end collision.

The irony being that you're complaining about realism, and "winning" by essentially killing someone. haha...

Thats the way i did it, You build up speed pretty fast when you catch a good draft.

Oh I completely agree. I'm just saying that all too often in our internet age we get stuck on something and in that effort to satisfy our instant gratification we go onto youtube or a msg board where someone will tell you one way of doing it. But, it might not be the easiest or best way to do it.

I'm a victim of this, I tried the bump draft (although I figured it out myself) over and over and was SO CLOSE, but then I started to think logically about it and realized that there was no WAY that PD would've designed the event to be beaten this way.

So I waited (an uncomfortably long time) and THEN cut out, caught a fantastic draft that lasted much longer and I was able to burn right through no mans land to get first.

That is the best way to do it, pre or post update. Honestly, getting the bump from behind from the wrong car screws up the designed draft pattern that PD put in place and makes it harder to catch up to #1 anyway.

PD is a joke nowadays. They "correct" their bad asinine planning with even more asinine things.

What a shame, that Yamauchi dude is really lacking common sense.

It has always been like that with him since GT5, either absurdly easy, or absurdly hard, absurdly long, absurdly short, absurdly detailed, absurdly pixelated...

He never heard about "balance".

I restarted the game a couple of days ago and was disgusted to find this aswell. Managed to gold them quite quickly though. try to be as smooth as possible to prevent triggering the asm. The first one is a pain in the behins as every restart you have to watch the entire pit stop. It is quite doable, even with asm.

I managed to gold the first one (the one after the pit-stop) yesterday evening using the "bump trick". Therefore it wasn't too hard. Otherwise it would have been quite hard to gold this in my opinion.

As for the third one, I managed to finish 6th. I could have finished better or even won if I hadn't made a few small mistakes or had drafted better, so I believe it can be done, even with ABS 1.

I golded all after the update, that was a pain in the... The last one was very difficult, I kept looking for setups and youtube videos, but there was a " trick " ; in all the videos have seen, after the second lap, there's a moment when the 3 lead cars try to overtake each other, that's the moment you'll use to pass them, but in my case, the 3 lead cars kept racing one behind the other, letting me no space to overtake without loosing the aspiration. I kept trying and trying, and finally, in one race they did it... but it took me more than 10 tryouts...

A tip for the first Daytona race in advanced, make sure when you leave the pit and have control of the car you fall back to 6th position, you can actually get into 4th very easily but you will not be able to draft enough to win. If you are in 6th you will be able to draft for practically the whole 2 laps and win easily.

Theres stil a workaround for the ASM, turn the break balance controller to 0 - 0. You can do that in the RT menu, so its doable in the nascar school chalange also.

Gets your car going alot faster

it's frustrating
even in the expert series the stupid assists are on and can't turn them off... this is very frustrating i could manage to be faster but now it's pointless

Cool! A work around! I'm gonna give that a go, and if it works... proclaim you a hero! :D

I wasn't aware that doing that completely disabled ABS. If it does, watch out, because PD will probably patch it if they read this!

It dosnt turn of the ASM or ABS, but it weakens the brakingpower to the wheels. So it wont be as fast as if you turned ASM of but its almost there.

And if you dont know what the RT menu is, you have do assign buttons for it on the controller. In the RT menu you turn BRA.F and BRA.R to 0.

Easy gold on nascar school

Did the last one this morning, had to unplug the wheel and thumb it but I did it.
Someone has already said this but it is key if you want to complete this. Forget the draft in 1 and 2 on the first lap, you want to follow the 48 just don't run his line through the first corner, I ran just under the dotted line on the high side, pick the draft back up as soon as you exit on the back straight. same thing through 3 and 4, hold your line, second lap i ran a little lower through 1+2 but was in forth on the exit draft like crazy down the back and at the last second, as soon as the car in front slows drop to the inside and passed them all in 3.

Matyltest was right! Brake balance 0 - 0 worked a treat! I golded them all last night. :)

You sir, are a bona fide legend.

Also, I had my closest finish ever in Daytona. First four cars within half a car-length. Got some awesome photos. 👍

I'm going to try the brake balance 0-0 thing... The last daytona 2 lap is the only one I have left to gold. I watched all the videos I could find, tried to run the exact same lines, but the car just bogs too much... Damned ASM.

edit: Got it on the 3rd try! Would've been done on the 2nd try but someone behind me P.I.T.'ed me right before the finish line.

I golded them all with my ds3 after the update. It's totally possible. I got #3 in about 6 tries but it was lucky. #1 was the worst, let the 3rd place car bump you from behind as you enter the track and that will get you up to speed in no time and then you just have to draft to first place. #2 took the most tries, but it was mostly just due to stupid mistakes on my part and bumping. I found the vettel challenge much harder and I only bronzed that.

That's how I did it the first time I tried it with the aids on.

Shortly after this I started a new save. On this save I discovered I could turn ASM off by turning off ABS, which allowed me to gold it with ease. (Though, I also managed to gold the inside and outside line tests first time with the aids on, and I know some people have great difficulty with those - So the later NASCAR events are still a challenge without forced driving aids, I'm just quite smooth for a pad user).

Both were done prior to the update, as I can't connect my PS3 to my network to get the updates.

They really need to remove these forced driving aids. Driving aids are supposed to help you, not hinder you. It's the only part of the game where the AI go faster than you in the corners without fail.

I just want to thank Matyltest SOOOOOOO friggin much for suggesting the 0-0 brake idea. I finally got GOLD on all advanced nascar challenges!! It took a few tries for each one, but I did it!
Now to do the nascar races in a- & b-spec and never ever touch those cars again!!!

Seriously, you should make a public announcement Matyltest, I am sure there are a lot of people you could help with that idea!!👍

I only tried ABS at 1 and brakes at 0-0, but it worked great! Of course you have to set up the controller so you can change the brakes in race (unless you have a DFGT wheel).

Hold on, where is the brake balance controller located so I can set it to 0-0? And what's the RT menu? :scared:
