The WTC will officially begin Friday, April 1st

RT Racing presents the third season of the new-for-2011 World Tour Competition, or as it's become known as - WTC.

This season in the spirit of the improved outlook of Shift, the WTC will adopt a name change of sorts, welcome to the World Tour Unleashed. Unlike the first and second seasons of the original WTC which served as a welcome mat to drivers of all skill levels, this time the competition will be handled differently. The sole intention is and always will be fun, but things will be more serious than ever with the inclusion of the FIA GT1 and GT3 classes, in addition to the wealth of new features that aim to make our racing experiences better than before. While the focus of the WTC has always been time trials, new events will be unveiled as the calendar progresses, never let your guard down because you'll never know who you're going up against. With the inclusion of Autolog there will be a new era of trash-talking and going the distance to prove your worth. The WTC, as it's always been, is open to everyone regardless of driving skill or experience. Also unlike the previous two seasons things will pick up exactly where they left off, meaning our reigning champion, NITROVIOUS, specifies what the inaugural race of the WTC 3 will be.

Do you have what it takes to aspire to the ranks?

Here are the new rules, regulations, and points system.

Rules and Regulations

1. Above all else, this competition is about having fun, there's enough on the table to go around full circle - so have plenty of it!

2. Any event held under this competition is entirely subjective to the circumstances provided. The events will range from restricted to open base rules.

3. The use of any vehicle specified within the competition parameters will be used without any disagreement hereafter.

4. Any vehicle issued within a specific round will be tuned to the parameters of the track selected by the provider of the event itself. Private tunes are NOT allowed unless noted otherwise.

5. If any participant in this event is suspected of, and has been proven to exhibit the propensity to cheat in any round of this tournament he or she will be disqualified immediately from the remainder of the competition, and all points earned will be forfeited.

6. All assisted driving aids must be turned OFF, however, the use of the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and the Driving Line can be used at the discretion of the driver.

7. You must stay within the confines of the respective track, if more than two wheels touch any surface other than the track itself your lap time will be invalidated, unless noted otherwise.

8. You can NOT discuss your lap times, you can however discuss your split/sector times.

9. Final lap times must be sent to me (via PM) before the deadline during time attack events, and please, only one entry per participant.

10. The winner of each event will have the option of specifying the parameters for the next race, those parameters include the following: Location, Tune (whether to be stock, privatized, or locally provided by myself), Vehicle or Manufacturer, PI Rating, and Time of Day (if applicable).

  • The winner fully reserves the right to be as specific as possible. Meaning, they are eligible to specify if engine swaps are permitted (if applicable), what tires are to be used, and how much horsepower (independent from the overall PI Rating) is to be used.

11. Failure to submit proof of your time via Autolog during a time attack event will result in a 0.250 time penalty.

  • If you are participating from the 360 platform you will still be required to submit proof of your time via Autolog; I have both copies of Unleashed, don't worry, it won't go unnoticed.
  • If you are participating from the PC platform you will be required to take a picture of your laptime using Fraps. Autolog submission is not necessary.

- Want to discuss your sector/split times? Need a reminder of what the current round entails, when it begins, or ends? Go here: WTC 3 Results Thread
- Need to know when a round ends native to your timezone? Go here: Time Zone Converter.
  • All WTC times are posted according to US/Eastern (which is what you'd select for 'From Time Zone:') and simply convert that time to wherever in the world you may be.

Accounted for.

Also seems I need to get rid of something that contradicts something stated in the rules. :P

I'm in.

I heard somewhere there will be direct YouTube uploading on PS3, should make uploading replays easy assuming you can at least upload a whole replay.

I'd like to get some more details on this. Does the platform matter: PC,PS3,360? Is Autolog going to be involved in any way or you just submit your lap time via PM only? This part "if more than two wheels touch any surface other than the track itself your lap time will be invalidated" is also only based on the honesty of the participants or is there a setting in Shift that will automatically invalidate your lap time? I know Shift1 gave you some warnings, but I'm not sure if there was a way to adjust the way it worked. Thanks!

1. Platform doesn't matter as far the long term is concerned, even though I'm still contemplating whether to introduce Feature Events to this competition, for the most part it will maintain it's time attack-oriented nature.

2. That's one of things I'm currently mulling over, but I can't say for certain until next Tuesday. If the Autolog implementation is as useful as it is in Hot Pursuit, then submission will be handled through that. I'll still need to see what Autolog is capable of in Shift 2 before I evaluate anything though.

3. Based on honesty. I've yet to have a problem with the folks here and I honestly don't expect anything to differ this time around.

Thank you for the answers. I guess I'm in as well. I'm not the best driver in the world but I love trying to beat the target time on a track.

yh count me in, but when will the races be at midnight uk or daytime?

Sorry, I didn't see this earlier....

Times haven't been decided upon yet, however, I'm certain the opening round is to take place next week. Once I've decided on a comfortable time I'll update the event calendar (and the results thread will have a posting of every round and it's details) and we'll be good to go.

Yeah, time of day is important... also important is my copy of Shift 2 to arrive on time of the first event.

So this is kinda of like WRS every week, although you receive points for having the fastest time?

For the most part, yes.

In the F1 WTC there was the incentive of being awarded a one year Premium subscription. I'll try and work out some prize packages once I have the game in my hands.

Let it be known now that if more than 16 participants qualify we may very well be looking at the possibility of divisional standings, however, only if I do decide to introduce Feature Events. If not I'll edit the points system to compensate the overflow.

Yes, i have what it takes to beat NITROVIOUS ;) so count me in 👍 I was waiting for this game playing Shift 1 and i can't wait for some good competition

What time will the events be run (gmt time)?

My question exactly.

I live in GMT+1 and would like to participate, but managing schedule will be too hard if you guys decide to run it in America's evenings.

It wasn't the problem for earlier WTC participants so sing up.

I want to take part in time trial lap times so count me in, if there are still places available

I have a question... if this is cross-platform, did you take a look at the lap time records for each course for Shift 1?

It was obvious that one platform was faster than the other. Up to a second or two, on some tracks.

TBH, this isn't all that surprising. Expecting IDENTICAL times on two totally different platforms, processors, etc., is asking a bit much...

Right now, the Shift 1 leaderboards are down, but I made a point of looking carefully at lap times back when I was participating. Did anyone else see this difference?

It's nice to THINK that we could all compete on a level playing field, but I am not so sure that this would be fair.

Time won't be as big of an issue for the time trial events as you'll have a standard week to submit your times anyway, but again, I haven't decided on a time frame yet but when I do I'll update everything accordingly.

Call me crazy, but you make it sound as if I haven't done this before. I've owned all three major retail copies (360, PS3, and PC) of Shift and other than the discomfort I had with the DS3, the times were exactly identical and if there was an advantage of some kind it was handled in a respectable manner.

And, the different CPU architectures between the three platforms has no relevance to what you're assuming because, well, processing power just doesn't work that way.

Sorry l'm late .
Officially throwing my hat into the ring .
l'll try to get my copy on release day so Terronium can get the show started .
This WTC will be # 4 for me , glad to see some familiar names signed up , l have a feeling this WTC will be intense .
( l remember well how blisteringly fast URC_ Lithium is and my prediction is he will be the one to catch )
l may be the Shift WTC champ , but URC won the big prize in Vancouver as the " overall " fastest driver.
Stiff competition , you bet . :)

I had my expectation low but damn :ouch::nervous:

Anyway, this means I'll have to practice so it will make me a better driver... which is a good thing, right? yeah...

Expectations of what, that we were a bunch of slackers? :P
