From the creators of Spec Miata Season 1 and FMSC Season 2

Welcome everyone to the General Discussion thread for the Hard Dog Challenge Series Season 1! What is the Hard Dog Challenge you ask? The HDCS is a new series that acts as a feeder to the Flyin' Miata Super Cup. It's the best place to hone your skills before racing in the FMSC, just like the Nationwide Series in NASCAR is a training ground for the Sprint Cup Series. You'll start out in a Miata modified to Season 2 specs while racing other drivers identical to your skill level. As you gain success on track, you'll have a chance to move up to the FMSC. It's that easy!

As you can see we run under a slightly different name than most, as we are the ONLY GT5 Online racing series to have an official title sponsor, as well as additional supporting sponsors. A huge thank you goes out to Hard Dog Fabrication for their added support for this series. Growing on the tremendous success of the HUGE Flyin' Miata Super Cup threads, the HDCS aims to bring additional drivers into one of the largest GT5 Online racing series ever! If you are looking for fun, clean racing than you have come to the right place.

Below you will find the News Board, Registration info and Car Specs. When something significant needs to be known, I'll post it here so there is a centralized location for the most important information. All other information, including the Race Schedule and Race Results, Photos, Videos and News can be found at the official website link located below as well.

Make the thread title " -MX-5 Amateur friendly- FMSC sanctioned Hard Dog Challenge Series"

This sounds more like me, If i continue to keep a good streak then ill see if im fit for FMSC! I registered for this instead so can you take me off the FM list.

I'll register for this. At least until I can actually figure these cars out .

Are we allowed fictional sponsors? ;)

I was keeping up okay with the Super cup cars, wasnt doing to bad i might be slow but im running 2:20's

Which is about 3 seconds off the pace of the Super Cup cars. Expected though since Grand Valley is a larger track.

Edit: Had a "cristianfuentes" sign up today (3 times in fact) and you're number was already taken, so I changed it to 14. If you want something else, let me know.

I'd be interested in checking this out, at least on a part time basis. Not sure if I'll be able to run full-time but should be able to make a few of them. I've heard a lot of great things about the Flying Miata series and would like to see what it's all about. 👍

Subscribed and Registered!

I think you will find that the racing in this series will be just as fun as the Cappuccino Cup. Plus, it's even more of a jump in and go series since the only parts of the car you can tune is the LSD and brake bias. 👍👍

Sounds like my type of racing! I like when everybody's very evenly matched so the pack stays fairly close. I'll get updated on the specs and get a Miata sorted out so I'm ready to go. This is an incredibly organized league and I hope I can learn some things to put to use in future seasons of the Cappuccino Cup. 👍

What is the day/time of the races? If my schedule permits, I am in. Already signed up. Debating if I should list Avon as my sponsor...

Sundays @ 8:00 EDT

Be sure to familiarize yourself with the series' website which is where all pertinent information is posted. 👍

I love the website feature. If the Capp Cup continues to flourish I hope to do something like that in the future. I doubt I'll be able to get Folger's or Maxwell House to sign on as a title sponsor though. lol

I've just registered, sounds like good fun. I'll sort the car out later today and get a feel for it 👍

Yes! Starting to shape up!

Edit: Its official, I want to thank Carbonetics for jumping onboard with us for Season 1 of Hard Dog Challenge. Im very happy to represent them and looking forward with them to be my sponsor for next season or the transfer to FMSC.

Picture is also a link \/ Please Check it out!

Will you guys be doing the extended qualifying sessions for the Hard Dog series like you do for the Flying Miata's? And at the risk of sounding ignorant, why do you qualify that way? I've witnessed it before so I'm familiar with the procedure but never quite understood the reasoning behind it.

Also, how do you police things like adjustable transmissions/suspensions to be sure everybody's staying within the rules? Just curious, I've always wondered about these things and you guys seem to make it work pretty well.

Yes, qualifying procedure will stay the same. We do it this way because it's easier when you have more than 16 people that need to qualify for each race while skipping the whole "submit a replay" stuff.

Replays. If a car comes into suspicion, it's easy to check the replays for that kind of stuff. Also takes a bit of trust on my part. I've been racing with these guys for a while now, and I know they're doing it right. As for new guys, well that's where the replays come into play.

It all works flawlessly, no need to fix anything.

Just to add to Turbo's response:

The current qualifying system is an evolution of the process used throughout the prior seasons. A four lap race is utilized to provide each participant with two guaranteed flying laps of clear track where you alone are responsible for your result. Where the first lap is used for warm up, the fourth and final lap of the session acts simply as a cool down lap during which the stewards can finish recording a qualifier’s lap data. In addition, it allows the stewards to observe both flying laps, making sure that two tires remain within the track limits at all times. It also adds a bit of pressure knowing that the rest of the room is watching you during your qualifying laps.

It all works flawlessly, no need to fix anything.

I know StigsHero wasn't insinuating that any changes needed to be made. Rather, he is just trying to get a better understand of how this series operates since he is always looking for ways that he can improve his Cappuccino Cup Racing Series.

Just sayin'. ;)

No, I wasn't suggesting the need to change anything at all, but Turbo and I had a couple go-'rounds about how qualifying should be handled when the Capp Cup was forming so I can understand if it came off wrong. Didn't mean it that way though. 👍

I spend a good bit of time reading all the other threads for online leagues to see how other people do things, find out what works and what doesn't so I can make my own group better or at least keep it from failing. Your methods have been adopted by several groups but I've never fully understood it so I thought this was a good time to ask.

That's partly why I signed up here so I can get some first hand experience with how a top tier group is run. :) That, and I've really come to enjoy spec racing in low hp cars! 👍

Now........off to the Mazda dealership!!

Just took my new Miata out for a spin, this combination of car and parts is great! Probably the most "realistic" thing I've felt in the game. I'm quite looking forward to this. 👍
