Random Online Physics

I'm writing this post out of rage because I've had too many damn races ruined this weekend from random crappy online physics.

I can drive the same car, into the same turn, the same way every race but some races, the car will feel like it hits an oil slick and I spin. It also seems that the physics change dramatically (for the worst) with more people in the room.

I had some fun races just this morning with rooms that had 5-6 people. No problems. I get into 12-13 person rooms and all of a sudden, my car feels like its on ice and I'm doing everything exactly the same. It sucks and I wish PD would find a way to make the physics consistent all the time and make it so the offline physics and online physics are exactly the same!

Rant over.

I have the same problem.. random Understeers in a car that has never understeered EVER, or the times where you enter a corner at normal, or even slower then normal speed.. and it just overshoots. It's annoying!

hasn't happened to me either.physics feel identical regardless of network conditions or players.

don't get me wring I crash and understeer into corners or spin out many times but that's cos I'm being too ambitious or make a mistake. you mean I can just blame it on the game? nice!

I've never come across this either.

Maybe Catch up is on? Catch up when in the lead like the old GT5Prologue not only sped up the guys near the rear of the field, it also slowed down the cars in front by reducing tire grip.

Heard about it, heard other guys complaining about it in the room with me, but I don't believe it's ever happened to me. One thing you might want to check is your settings. The game can move you from A to B to C sometimes so make sure you're on the settings sheet you want. Also, if you do some changes and don't save the settings, and then get disconnected, those changes are lost and you go back to the tune the way it was before you made the changes.

Did you try the recommended lobbies or thought about latency/connection issues and the lobby settings (grip settings , Fuel/tyre settings)?

It does happen,

Some guys I'm in a race series have experienced this but only when we have more than 13 people.

I guess it's to do with there Internet as I've never had this.

I'm sure it happens and isn't just the outcome of the "heat of the race" or a forgotten adjustment like grip=real.

Few days ago I setup a car for a private 500pp race.
When tested in my private lounge alone, I was able to mindlessly press the gas at launch without any wheelspin. In race with some friends (same private lounge, same settings), I suddely burnt my tyres.

And I'm sure that I tested with cold tyre state before. I even did some "start race" test for launch control.

Yes I have noticed this several times, I play mostly online and sometimes when racing the nordshleife ive been slower per lap in same car but at different times.

Are you sure you didn't have TCS on in the room alone, and when the race started TCS was restricted?

This is definatly true, the game does this when you have large fields. I also notice that the frame rate goes down significantly when you have a full or close to full grid of 16. Since spec 2 this problem has bece more pronounced I think.

I had exactly the same last night and just thought i was driving like an idiot.
I hosted the room and we were driving 500pp. The race ended and all i did was switched to 650pp and change into my trusty xanavi GTR which i use a great deal and am very familiar with. Track didnt change (loving SPA at the moment) but the car just would not turn in.
I had a couple of freinds in the room whom i regularly beat and couldnt even keep them in sight.
Ended up finishing near last and around 30 secs off 1st.
At least now i think im not alone in this and that i wasnt going mad.

I noticed this with the ZR1 RM. In normal play, the car does tend to oversteer, but it requires little throttle control when taking corners. I did a little test run on Trial Mountain...

When I head online, the car tends to oversteer more often than before; I drove on the same track as I did in normal play. I often have to bring throttle control to a little more than halfway when taking corners. Also, I pull off random spin-outs when taking high-speed corners. Odd... :boggled:

The only things you need to check when joining an online lobby are these.

Skid Recovery Force, On or Off
Fuel & Tyre Simulation, On or Off
All Driving Aids, On or Off.

Figure out which settings suit you the best and ONLY drive in those that you're comfortable with. Problem solved.

There isnt random changes in the physics engine, its how the lobby is set up.

Just FYI, the only difference between online and offline physics is fuel simulation.

Restrict room to 8 players max and don't deviate too far from standard suspension settings. Sorted!

Im pretty sure that in my case that was not what was happening.
I was the room creator and host.
All aides off
Had been racing fine fr may be 3 or 4 races when i changed to 650PP and used my Xanavi that im very familiar with and even more so on Spa as i have been racing there a lot recently.
It just understeered and braked like a pig on grease.
The next race i again changed to a different format and all was ok again.
Went back to the xanavi and it was fine.

During that entire sequence nothing changed excpet some people came and went and the PP limits were changed.

This all took place within the space of 1 hour.

When you next experince this in a race, make sure you save the reply then when you get a chance watch it back.

You'll notice very strange things happening with your car, also watch the rev's

Not much of an online person myself, I tried a race online last night. After waiting 15 minutes to connect to server, find a lobby, connect to lobby, wait for race in progress to end, wait for race to start, finally it starts and I just cannot handle seeing cars zigzag across the track due to low bandwidth connections. How in God's name can anyone race like that?

i wish i had thought about that when it happened.
If it happens again i will have a look.

Same here, i can totally understand what you mean, but we get it even with 2-3 persons in the room.
With my mates we re-created about 10 lobby's in the same day to see if the damn thing will ever come back to "normal"...nothing.

All the sudden the grip is gone, no matter how fast or how slow you are going you're gonna spin out for no reason at all, the breaks with abs 1 is like having no abs at all, the car just cant handle it self.
In free run is better but when you start the race ..... the damn thing is going nuts.
The entire last week gone that way, we tried again yesterday, nothing same issues.

At the last race on the N'ring i got 4 penalties? 4? in the ring? for shortcut?
I dont know if it is even possible to replicate that.
To give you an example,
I was in the 1st place with a GTR'09 and i had on my tail another GTR'09.... both we spun out on the small left corner at the last long straight.

From last friday we enter, we check if the problem is still there..... and it is ....and we quit.
It is really really annoying.
