The 50th Running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona kicks off this wekeend @ 3:30PM EST.
In honor of this PURE is running a tribute race the "PURE 2.4 at Daytona"

Daytona_International_Speedway_-_Road_Course.svg

Schedule:

12PM EST Track opens (room number will be posted here)
12:30PM EST 20 min Qualifying Session
(10 minute rest)
1PM EST Race Start
*(EST = GMT/UTC -5)

I also plan on hosting a long open practice session Friday night.
Should be a room open from ~6PM-11PM EST.

There will be two distinct classes Prototype and GT. To cut down on chaos and deal with the 12 car limitations of GT5s online racing the classes will be split. There will be Prototype race room(s) and GT race room(s). If enough interested drivers are committed we will run as many 12 driver rooms as are feasible.

To keep both races near the 2h 24m time-line they will run different lap counts.
DP will be 75 Laps
GT will be 67 Laps
(including parade)

Rules and Procedures:

All Standard GTP OLR rules apply to PURE series and will be cited if and when dealing with race infractions or penalties. The only thing we would add is a 'Blue Flag' rule which states that you must do your best to allow faster cars driving by you when being lapped to safely and quickly overtake. This is easy at Daytona as the slower car can simply take the high-line on the banking allowing the leaders to go by on the lower lane.

Daytona has a unique to GT5 pit-lane situation in that it's the only track where the player gets to drive half of the pit exit. When exiting the pits there is a narrow pit-road that continues on the inside of Turn1 behind a blue barrier and enters the track just after Turn2. We expect everyone to take this road when exiting the pits. It is much safer than trying to merge into traffic that is coming down off the banking through the hard braking zone into Turn1.

Tech Inspection:
Just before the track opens for qualifying the room host will perform a quick tech inspection. This will consist of weight and PP checks to ensure that cars are compliant with the official specifications before allowed on track.

Start:
We will be doing a rolling single-file start. At the beginnig of the race we will set off on a 100km/h (62mph) formation lap led by the pole sitter. You may warm up your tires on the formation lap, but be careful and don't do anything erratic that could cause a pre-race incident.
Once the field rounds the final turn and approaches the finish the pole sitter may start the race at or just before the start/finish line. Each car behind will be expected to go when the car in front of them goes. Once a driver has crossed the S/F line they may overtake, but not before.
Watch the car in front, go when they go and we'll have a successful start to the event.

Ill say im interested and ill ask some friends if they are interested :).

Oh, did some testing and racing hard tires go away very fast on Daytona. But if you don't jam the gas and jam the brakes... You'll be fin. :)

Quite fancy driving an LMP car, as I've not had the pleasure yet, however, I currently own none of the above :)

If I find something in the UCD, I'll let you know.

Sounds like fun Tim! :D

GT cars are up. There may be a very minor tweak to the cars before they're finalized but nothing major. I've been running these cars within a 1/2 second of each other and I'm pretty happy with them as of now.

They're all pretty on pace and they keep separate personalities.

- Corvette is very capable everywhere so it was the benchmark car.

- Camaro is the easiest car to drive and the best car in Turn 1

- BMW is a traditional M-Racecar. Very light and agile momentum car which is rewarding when you're fearless on the brakes. It dances through bus stop at speeds that are terrifying in the other cars.

- The Audi twins are mid-engine brutes. Hardest car to drive but fun if you can tune the homicidal tendencies out of the rear end.

- The challenger is classic Detroit muscle. Roaring Hemi V8 sounds awesome and it's great slow-in-fast-out.

- Mopar stablemate Viper ACR is the rocket ship. Fast on the banking, loose in the infield but requires some tuning to get rid of understeer.

- Ferrari's 458 is new to Grand-Am and carries all the charm Maranello gave the road car. All it needs to be on pace is wings and a diet. It's very capable everywhere and the bonus gear is surprisingly an advantage.

Tonight after the state of the union I'm going to give some love to the prototypes so they should be up shortly.

THE UCD NEEDS A REFRESH BUTTON! >:E

@ w-g-e Do you mind sending me a fr? Would like to strategize and such, LOL. I could send you a FR too if I need to, but I can help with set-up too if you want one,

@ DR_Watson Is the BMW M3 GTR at final specs? Would like to test so please let me know asap.

Thanks:) harrison1476

Everything is 99.99% and IIRC the BMW can't change as its already at full power minimum weight for an N/A tune. So tune away. 👍

btw, For reference I've gotten every GT car in the low 1:44 range without too much setup work.

I don't mind at all, thanks.👍
It would be good if you could send me your tune. I lost mine because I lost almost all my cars (please don't ask why ). Anyway, it would be good to have some sort of strategy, I've been suffering with rear tyre wear last time I raced this car online. So if you know anything to minimise rear tyre wear that would be great.

@ Dr_Watson: Ok, So if I was running the car stock at 1:49.xxx then at max 1:44 should be pretty easy, Ok thanks:)

@ w-g-e: Ok, will look into it tonight, do you mind adding me on PSN, If you join my lounge I can figure something out, I am a pretty good tuner, I was running with tyre wear on and stock tuning, and was getting about 15 laps pushing with the hard tyres, I think if I took it easy 25-30 laps is pretty easy, I'll find out tonight though.

I live in the Netherlands so I can't you tonight. Maybe if you're around now?

More power makes it eat the rears even faster.
Being the lightest car though gives it the least overall tire wear so you could take the option of tuning scrub into the front to balance it rather than trying to stop the rears from wearing.
I've used the "make the fronts wear faster to keep up with the rears" approach before in other cars and it does help you stay out a few more laps since the rear isn't as greasy when the front isn't holding on twice as good.

I'm a bit confused about the specifications for the M3..
Stock, the car has 20/45 instead of 20/40 downforce. Stock the car is 1120 KG instead of 1170 KG. With power at 557 and aero at 20/40 the car is 600PP, but that's with a weight of 1120 KG

You're adding weight and losing aero, and then putting more power on which puts it at 600 PP.
