On January 19th Capcom posted a Resident Evil 6 reveal trailer on Youtube and announced the game via a press release, flipping the lid on the next instalment of one of gaming's most cherished series.

The title will be released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 20th 2012, with a Windows PC version to follow soon after.

Official Capcom description:
"It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left."

So, from what I can see there appears to be 2/3 separate storylines featuring at least 2 classic Resi characters (and a lesser known mercenary-type with enhanced physical abilities), plus the inclusion of six-player co-op seems to be the centre of interest at the moment.

EDIT: Release date will be October 2nd 2012, and October 4th in Japan.

Saw the trailer a few days ago. The game looks epic. At some points I thought the game could actually be scary and felt like older releases. No smoking hot chick partner, so you appear to travel alone most of the time. Also zombies. Not ganados, not majinis, gropagas and what not. Actual zombies.

This has my seal of approval for now.

Yeah, it certainly looks epic, plus the storyline appears to be much deeper than it was in previous games.

You have Leon's campaign, which is old school zombie bashing and survival horror like in the original PS1 Resi games (great to see actual zombies making a return too). Chris' campaign is more akin to the previous 2 games, except you're also fighting alongside a whole team from the BSAA (not all the time though, I'm guessing). The third guy seems quite adept in hand to hand combat, plus a substance in his blood is of interest apparently (should play a key role in the game). As for female partners; I think you will be pairing up with them during sections parts of the game, but they might not be with you on a constant basis (one of which looks like the president's daughter who was in Resi 4).

Also, that part-mechanised BOW looks like it'll be a recurring enemy like Nemesis was in Resi 3.

I've watched trailer and this looks like no Resident Evil 6 but more Resident War 1

I'm a big fan of the Resident Evil series, played most of them since the PSOne days and I can't stand the fact that they are now action packed games rather than old school surviving horror like RE1, 2 and 3. Recently I finished Resident Evil 3 on my PSP and the gamecube remake of Resident Evil 1 on my Wii. The GC remake is the best Resident Evil game. I had to start it twice from the beginning because the first time when I reached the final boss, I didn't had any ammos or herbs/first aid sprays. That's a hardcore survival horror game.

Rant over.

I'll purchase RE6 on release date anyway...

The Best for me is RE4, but this is strictly my "taste". AS for RE6 it's nice to know that series is still evolving, take turns and is not the same boring RE 1 + 2 + 3 + Remake

Although RE:Remake is the quintessence or Horror 👍

This series lost its way long ago.

Don't like Crapcom either. They used to be one of the best. Just another cash cow company now.

Silent hill 2 is still the king for me and won't be beaten for a long time.

I have to agree that 4 was the best in the series, with a near perfect mix of action and survival horror. Resi 2 is still my favourite PS1 installment, and 3 was possibly the most scare inducing for me.

Never really liked 5. It was a step down from 4 which I thought was a little bit disappointing. I know the series has upped the amount of action since the PS1 days, plus 6 looks like it'll be following that trend, but I'm still hoping to buy it once it's released. They can only really make improvements over Resi 5, so I don't see 6 being any worse than that.

I'll finish Resident Evil 4 on my Wii, starting tonight.

Purchased the game but played very little, the Wii controls make it even better game.

Really hope they pull this one off, Resi 5 was a shocker.

I downloaded the lost in nightmares DLC for Resi 5 after reading some reviews and that 30 minute episode was really enjoyable and kinda like the classic resident evil i know and love,I hope they stick with that path, although going by the trailer it looks like they are trying to cater to all fans which seems like a great game for newcomers and not so much for long time fans of the series.

2nd trailer. Intriguing.

Multiplayer information

On to some multiplayer goodness. Capcom has confirmed that co-op will, indeed, be making a return in Resident Evil 6 but will now support a drop-in and drop-out function. This means that players can enter or leave another’s game at any point without having to restart the level at the last checkpoint. Previously, in Resident Evil 5, players needed to enter games together through the loadout screen preceding each game.

In the trailer, you’ll also notice that each of the three protagonists, Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy and Jake Muller, will each have their own companion whom another player will have the ability to control, much like RE5.

Capcom has confirmed that the hugely popular Mercenaries mode will also be returning. Thankfully, it will be unlocked from the start this time around.

I'm not too big on the whole companion thing to be honest, but I'm glad that Mercenaries mode is back though.

And at least we know more about Jake Muller, but there's still an air of mystery surrounding him. Can't wait to find out more though, the story looks rather intriguing.

I had a great time with the RE5 co-op campaign so hopefully this is as good as that game.
Racoon City was terrible and another example of why developers should not release a game every single year.

Yeah, my friend tried it the other week and he said it was awful. The reviews seemed mixed overall, but many of them were negative.

Resi 6 does look far more promising though. Hopefully the team doesn't mess it up somehow, because I'm really looking forward to this release.

Resident Evil 6 is set for release on October 2nd, 2012 and we couldn’t be more excited to get our hands on the title. We’ve got some new info and screenshots to keep you up to date with the latest in Capcom’s highly anticipated installment. Possible spoilers listed below, highlight to view....

- The C-Virus will be the new ultimate “bio-weapon” in this title.

- Zombies will now wield axes, pipes and guns. If properly disarmed, these can be used against them.

- Zombies can now dash, jump and climb.

- Players can move and shoot, run into cover and dive onto the ground and fire while on their backs.

- All new Mercenaries Mode is available Day 1 for everybody, no DLC stipulations.

- Mercenaries Mode will be Capcom’s boldest, most expansive mode yet

- A tramatic event occurs in Chris Redfield’s life during his mission in Lianshang, China. This completely changes his personality to a more cryptic and pessimistic Chris Redfield.

- Ada Wong is somehow responsible for the Tragic event in China, which sets Chris on a rampage after her.

- Wesker’s son’s name is Jake Muller, who is a mercenary fighting in Europe with the goal of earning cash for him and his mother.

I like how Capcom consulted with Michael Bay before rigging that fighter jet with explosives. It destroyed a massive stretch of highway.

Seems like there may be quite a few button sequences in this one too.

Those Capcom guys at the 360 show didn't want to be there. Couldn't wait to get of stage. They didn't even announce the 360 exclusive first dibs on DLC.

Quite funny.

I was also thinking Michael Bay  The game looks good and they have done a stellar job at recreating Hong Kong (well what we saw of it).
