Hey guys, I just want to share this video about a Ugandan guerilla group leader. His name is Joseph Kony and he is the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA).
It has abducted and forced an estimated 66,000 children to fight for them, and has also forced the internal displacement of over 2,000,000 people since its rebellion began in 1986.

I urge you to watch the 30 minutes video.

I don't know what's worse: This guy, or the fact that it took 30 years until people gave a damn about him.

I was just going to post a similar thread, I agree that it's pretty bad that it took 30 years for it to be recognized. What that guy did is 🤬 up.

Just did post something like this in the Rumble Strip. Spread the word everyone!

Making a ruckus isn't going to do nothing. Actually, it's swampy terrain; if something is done, he's not giving up, and will put those kids to fight for them. It doesn't matter if they send peacekeepers or Chuck Norris, Gun in hand=Combatiant Combatiant=Neutralize.

I agree completely, people are now getting ultra motivated about it when knowing nearly nothing about the topic, I can just see so much hypocrisy in this issue. I bet a few months from now all the hype will be gone and people will start forgetting about him, just like what happened with the earthquake in Haiti. It was devastating, people paid attention for a couple months, and then nothing. There is still a bad situation over there just like in many other places of the world but they're just not as popular.

Totally agree.

Couldn't have said it better myself. 👍

The latest in internet morality fads, it'll pass as soon as celebrities start appearing on TV to talk about it.

Repost, lift iEgo, achieve nothing, rinse, repeat.

Yes. I can't stand all those damn preppy kids in school who hear about this sort of stuff (this specific genocide has been happening for over 25 years) and suddenly decide something needs to be done about it. For a few months all these preppy kids decide to give a rip about the situation in Uganda. This whole "save the children" thing is a trend, nothing more. And, this trend will die, just like the trends of jean jackets and leather vests. In a few months everyone will go back to their facebook ways with zero regard for the rest of the world. I think its obvious that many teens use this sort of situation to make others think they are sensitive, and therefore climb the social ladder. To me, taking advantage of a situation such as the one in Uganda for your own personal gain is almost as disgusting as being the one who commits these horrible acts.

I can't stand smuggy people. "Hey, I'll spread the word, then feel good about myself because I know I have done something to help out." :grumpy:

Yes. People think anything they have done wrong in the past doesn't matter because they "care" now and are morally right. This is all about political correctness and social popularity.

Call me an internet hipster, I don't care.

Sorry, I'm raging hard right now.

We're living in a different world now. The changes in the middle east and elsewhere prove that. We are no longer in the dark about a great many things going on in the world.

Ignorance is a justifiable excuse while you remain ignorant. Once you know, and do nothing, it is apathy.

This video proves that actions of people have made a difference.

I am more disheartened by some of the responses.

Pretty much everyone in my town (100,000) under 18 plans to do the Cover the Night thing. Im not sure where I stand, as far as vandalism goes.

My view; Do you like dead children?
Do you like Sex Slaves?
Do you like... Mean people?

Sure, I'll talk about it and spread awareness.

Cover the night? What is that?

This.

I'm actually somewhat impressed by this. Compared to the usual save the children stuff it's quite well organized and well thought out. It's easily accessible to get teens to flood Bono's twitter, and this does seem to be beginning to make progress with the 100 US soldiers in Uganda. It's baby steps, sure, but to me opposing this is like saying to a kid entering College that it's not worth it unless he's going to come out with a PhD.

That doesn't change that this is all fundamentally unconstitutional, but as far as unconstitutional intervention goes I'd rather have Delta Force bust a cap in this guy's ass than keep occupying Iraq, Afghanistan, and propping up Israel.

Cover the night? What is that?

The big culmination of it is supposed to be on April 20th, when from 6PM-6AM everyone is going to go out and put posters/signs and stickers up everywhere. It makes sense when you're talking about New York City, or Toronto more locally, but for me to do it in my town of 5000 people won't accomplish anything.

On the night of the 20th, Everybody is supposed to go cover your city in posters for the cause. That just begs "da po-lice" to come cite everyone for a Curfew violation, in addition to Loitering and Vandalism.

I'm not exactly sure how it accomplishes anything even in a city like New York.

Unlike the general population, the people actually involved in the invisible children program are actually helping. Of course not a whole lot as they are just a few teens, but they are attempting to change the situation. I have a massive amount of respect for them. But for everyone else, putting up signs around a city does not accomplish anything in my opinion. All it is is an excuse to stay out late and hang out with friends. In a couple months, the whole thing will be forgotten. It is just a fad. I'm sorry, but it just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm not taking sides against this, but there have been other events similar to this one that are hyped over and left forgotten. I am glad people are standing up to stuff like this but some just do it for other reasons of their own (social status, popularity)...

I definitely can't argue that. Just look at politics. However if the end result is good then the why is not important.

That is my whole argument on this. I say that if you do that poster thing and leave feeling smug about yourself, then you should be shamed for doing so rather than commended. If you leave feeling genuinely concerned for the situation and feel like doing more to help out then that is good. I have no problem with it then. But the truth is the vast majority of people pretend to care because they "want all da kidz in Iraq or wherevur it iz to be free cuz dat bad guy iz killing them." Two words. Social. Status.

Okay, I'm done beating my viewpoint down everyones throat. Sorry if anything I said made anyone mad. I'm going to leave now...

Well;

I agree completely, people are now getting ultra motivated about it when knowing nearly nothing about the topic.

I think I've summarized this to some point. I think if we were to look at the situation the way it was meant to be looked at: about problems in Africa, we would be contributing to resolve those problems. In reality, people are taking advantage of these current events to achieve being recognized or even to be rebellious. This is why I think it's wrong for people with no prior knowledge of the topic to become extremely preoccupied in the development.

I hope you guys understand what I'm going at.

... so what's exactly wrong with telling the world that this guy has been ****ing up his country so bad the children would end up in a pile of **** instead of having a high-paying career?

10 minutes have passed while I'm watching and I'm immediately touched by the video. Kony deserves this kind of recognition. This is beyond human trafficking. This needs to stop.

Nothing is wrong with telling people what he's done. It's just that people are being told for the wrong reasons.

Those being...?

Personally, I admire what the people were doing. It takes a lot to put down someone like Kony.

It's asinine people are just getting to this, does this thread need the article on how we have special forces there I believe at the moment.

@ Tesla

Exactly, when it's nice for people they'll poke their heads up out of the clutter to see what is going on with the rest of the world. It happened in the 80s with Afganistan, countless times in different areas of Africa and yet again. It's great that people care for the moment, but the attention span of the majority is so slim that this issue will not be looked at a month or two down the road. That is if isn't still plastered all over Facebook or twitter or whatever the hell people want to occupy their time with.
