Simulated Driver Change
There will be one mandated (simulated) driver change during the race which must take place in a specified time window. To simulate the change a driver will pause during a regular pit stop for 5 minutes. The time window is long enough that it will throw some interesting dynamics into the race and it will also allow the participants to take a small break during the race for a stretch, drink or a real life pit stop during this challenging event.
Specifics:
- To begin the simulated driver change enter the pits as normal during the driver change window (race clock between 1:00:00 to 1:30:00).
- Begin the pit stop as normal allowing AI to take over and then selecting tires and added fuel amount and select OK
- After that screen is dismissed hit "Start" which will show the options buttons ("resume", "chat", "options" and "exit").
- As long as you see those option buttons you will not be released from your pits. Do not click any buttons including chat or you will be released when you dismiss that screen.
- The AI will drive the car into your pit stall and begin your normal pit stop. At this point you should be watching the race timer and the crew member with the release flag.
- When the flag man raises the release lollipop, your 5 minute wait officially begins.
- Note the race clock time (or current lap time) and write it down. Manually add 5 mins and write down this time which is when you can leave the pit.
- Take a break, stretch, pat your dog and do whatever else makes you feel refreshed.
- After the target time has been reached on the race timer hit start and proceed with the remainder of your race.
Driver Change Verification and Infractions:
- All driver changes will be reviewed and penalties applied for improper execution before the results will become official.
- If you do not serve the total 5 minutes a double time penalty will be applied to your finish time. e.g. if you serve only 4 minutes then 2 minutes will be added to your finish time.
- If you accidentally leave the pits early you can avoid a penalty by returning to the pits and serving all of the remaining time on the *very next* lap.
- Any driver that doesn't attempt a proper driver change will be DQ'd and removed from the official results.
Qualification
All qualifying will take place in the non-time/weather version of the track.
Drivers can attempt to qualify in any of the three cars. The top qualifying drivers will participate in the "A" race. Drivers who do not make the cutoff will serve as reserves for "A" and participate in a "B" race (assuming there are enough drivers to race in a second lounge).
Qualifying will take place during the ten days prior to the race event (see windows below). Drivers can arrange ad hoc sessions with an approved steward at any time during the window. All qualifying sessions will require a steward to set up the lounge to proper specs and will consist of short "races" which are observed and verified by stewards. Standard WRS track rules are in effect during these races and any infractions will be penalized a minimum of 2 seconds per incident unless it is beyond a reasonable doubt that the "infraction" had a negative impact on the lap time. Each driver can attempt qualifying only once.
Qualification times will not be published until the qualification window closes for that class. Drivers are allowed to share their own quali times via PM or other private communications and others can observe their runs with permission from the driver, but qualification lap times or any information that be used to derive quali lap times should not be posted/discussed in the thread.
Qualifying Race Procedure
- A race steward will set up the lounge to the proper regulations for the car.
- The driver will enter the course to verify regulations have been satisfied.
- The race timer will be started.
- The qualifying steward and any other observers will monitor the race live to validate the run and save a replay in case of any protest.
- The qualifying races will consist of 3 laps: 1 un-timed out-lap + 1 timed hot-lap + 1 un-timed in-lap.
- After finishing the hot lap the driver should slow, park and stay on track.
- Lap time and any infractions will be noted and announced by the steward.
- When the driver and steward are in agreement on the recorded net lap time the driver can exit the track.
- Replays should always be saved by the observing steward. There are many areas to cut and gain time on this track and camera angles are not always good so all qualification runs will be preliminary pending a full replay review.
Qualifying Time
- The drivers fastest hot lap will determine his starting position on the grid as well as the race lounge.
- Any driver that demonstrates in qualification or practice sessions that he cannot keep the car in control and on the track consistently or maintain a reasonable pace will not be allowed to participate in the enduro race. The stewards and event organizers will make that call if it is deemed necessary.
Miscellaneous
- Any disagreement over infractions will be handled via replay review.
- If a driver DCs before finishing his out-lap he can return to re-run a full qualifying race.
- If a driver DCs after starting and before completing the first hot-lap, he can return for a one time only single hot-lap retry.
- If a driver DCs after completing the first hot-lap, the first hot-lap time will count and no retry allowed.
Qualifying Window
- Begin: Thursday, August 30 (10:00 AM Pacific)
- End: Thursday, September 6 (10:00 PM Pacific)

Scheduling a Qualifying Session
Drivers should post to the thread requesting a steward to observe their qualifying run and the day/times you would be available. To maximize the chance of making a match with a steward please provide a few times and give a bit of up front notice. Stewards may also post that they have qualifying rooms ready in case anyone is ready to qualify. During those steward prompted sessions the lounge will be set up for free run practice until someone is ready to qualify. Drivers are welcome to practice during these sessions and observe others qualification runs. All qualifying runs must take place in private lounges (not public lobbies).
NOTE: There are many corners on this track that can be cut and time gained so remember to keep
two tires on track at all times. This event will follow the track boundaries as discussed in the OP of
GTP_WRS (GT5) Week 31 : Flyin' Down Mulsanne.
Rolling Start
We will be running a regular rolling start in staggered formation, but due to the length of the track we will not do a complete lap, but will instead start at this point on the track:
- Credit for this photo and start point goes to PURE (Wardez). It was used in their CALM series race at La Sarthe (here).
- The specific starting point for the pole sitter is the start of the first (yellow) house on the left.
- You can see on the track map in the image approximately where this location is situated on the straight.
- It's fairly close to the chicane which should make the entry into the first chicane a bit slower and safer.
Formation Procedure:
- After the system places you on the grid drivers should proceed into stagger formation in qualifying order.
- Pole sitter will choose his preferred side of track and other drivers will form in turn alternating sides.
- Speed limit during formation is 63 mph / 100 kph and pole sitter should maintain this speed (or less) to keep pack together
- Weaving or other tire warming procedures are NOT allowed during the formation lap.
- Pole sitter will lead the grid through Terte Rouge onto the first long straight at which point the grid should close ranks.
- There should be no overlap between cars once approaching the start marker.
- The pole sitter should start the race by accelerating to race pace at the Yellow Building pictured above.
- Starting at this point will allow field to get up to pace by the first chicane without draft taking over completely.
- All other drivers should accelerate after the driver in front of you does so.
- No passing is allowed before the start marker.
- Be cautious and courteous braking into the first chicane. Dive bombing will be penalized and will not be tolerated.
