The Performance Point Restrictor Series!

PicsArt_1370574908947.jpg

Winning and losing will now have a direct effect on the performance of your vehicle going forwards now. Win and earn championship points but with a caveat. High place finishes come with a cumulative performance point penalty. On the flip side, very low place finishers, while not scoring many championship points, will be awarded a cumulative performance point bonus!

Every week we will be racing a new car that will not be unveiled until after the current weeks race! The cars will range from high powered race car to flashy "tuner" cars, so there is bound to be a car that you will appeal to you.

I know most of you enjoy a fair and impartial race but I beg you guys to give this a try for ONE season. I know you will be skeptical but all I ask is to give it a shot. At the best we get close racing with multiple different winners each week and at the worst we still get a nice variety of cars battling it out. In the end our group still gets together each week and has some fun.

So what do you say? Are you up to the challenge of the first ever Super Tuner Car PPR series?

Tire Wear/Fuel Consumption is ON NORMAL

Damage will be set to HEAVY
Penalties will be on during Qualification but OFF during races

Event Procedures:
Races will be held in a public lobby due to better internet connectivity.

Racers are to meet up prior to qualifying in xR0ADRASHx’s lobby so we can determine the number of racers to set in the public lobby.

Racers are NOT to enter the track until instructed to do so.

The lowest PP limit will be set and those at that limit will be asked to enter the track and wait in the pit area. The PP will go up based on current drivers allowed PP and they will be asked in accordingly. The last drivers to enter the track will be the racers with the highest allowed PP limit.

Racers will be released in groups of four to qualify and given 4 laps to record their qualifying time (1 warm up lap, 2 hot laps and 1 cool down). Upon completion of your qualifying you are to wait in the pit area. If you don’t know how all you have to do is press PAUSE while entering the pits.
RACERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE TRACK UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO!!!!

Leaving the track will cause an immediate forfeit of the race.

Racers will be instructed to leave the track while the host resets the lobby.

RACERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TUNE DURING THIS TIME! DOING SO WILL FORFEIT YOUR RACE! Stewards are assigned and will be watching.

Racers will then be informed of their qualifying spot and instructed to line up on the track in order.

The race will then be started. Unless otherwise noted races will begin with 1 pace lap and require 1 pit stop.

Thanks for the tip. Im still working on adding photos and spreadsheets. Click some of my sig links to get an idea of what the finished thread will look like. Currently our league is still debating the particulars and needed a quick thread to do it on.

Dang DJ, my heads spinning trying to figure out all them there crazy regs! So if you're bad that's good and if you're good you get your PP uh, shrunk down. Hmm.

Are you planning on running this after the Miatas?

Yuuup.

It does seem like its penalizing the better drivers but with a close knit group like ours the emphasis is more on fun then actually dominating the competition. I am curious to see what happens lol

Btw car selection is still in the air.

Edit: I removed the starting pp and car selection from the OP

I've gotten a few comments regarding the viability of multi class racing so for now we are tabling that idea.

Next order of business is how fast you guys want to go!

The original concept had multi class with a mix of 500 pp and 600 pp classes. Multi class is gone for now so what PP would everybody like to race at?

I enjoy the slower/easier to drive cars. Then again nothing beats the rush of a fully tuned monster HP race car exploding out of corners.

I'm thinking of basing the series on small sports cars such as the Scion FRS, Mazda Miata '07, Audi TT (the lowest PP version), BMW Z4, Golf VI R and Honda Integra '04.

If we are going with faster cars, I say lets go all out! TC and RM Skylines, RM Vettes, TC RX-7....

Or we can go grudge battle and go with TC and RM Evo and TC and RM Imprezas...

Possibilities are endless

So lets start with PP.

What PP would you guys most want to race at?

My official vote is 530PP.

Here's a suggestion;

Mazda RX7 TC
Lancer EVO X TC
SKYLINE GT-R R32/33 TC
Subaru IMPREZA TC
Camaro SS 2010 RM
Dodge Challenger SRT8 TC

600PP Race Mediums
At least 2 of each car

I like the small sports car idea. I can equal not make Thursday races either, so doesn't matter to me.

I like that suggestion. Really good mix of cars and around the pp I really enjoy.

Hey brett how come u are having trouble making the races? If its the time I dont think anybody would mind pushing the races up to a half hour later start time...I assume...

May is just a crazy month, both my kids do swim team and the practices for May are from 6-8pm Mon-Fri, Jun-Aug they have swim meets on Wed evenings and all day Saturday, my whole summer gets shot to ****.. And may -June I have a big project at work. The delays in the season just killed me, that's just the way it goes, I just figured we'd be done before may. I think time wise we're already pushing the east coast guys. I'm not a top tear racer anyway, I just enjoy driving with everyone.

The older I get the busier I get as well. We plan on having a 2 week break before we get this series started. Just remember you are always invited to jump in and wreck/race with us!

First testing session is this Monday. I'll be testing in my Lounge to start off with but we may move to a better lounge as testing goes on.

Please purchase and prepare the following vehicles to 600PP with Race Medium tires:

Mazda RX7 TC
Lancer EVO X TC
SKYLINE GT-R R32/33 TC
Subaru IMPREZA TC
Camaro SS 2010 RM
Dodge Challenger SRT8 TC

We will be practicing at Laguna Seca. I would like whoever to participate to record at least 4 laps in each car and report their average lap time to me.

If these cars are within a second or so in lap times then we should be good to go. I'm looking to have 6 different cars in this series. If for some reason a few of the cars just can't compete we will remove them from the line up and test new car suggestions on Wednesday.

I greatly encourage everybody to participate in testing if you can. That way we can get a good feel for how these cars compete with each other.

EDIT: I have shortened the series from 6 races to 4. I figure we can give this experiment a short shot and see how it works out.

Also, anybody against racing on Thursdays from this series? If not then we can set the official start date on 5/30/13.

I should be able to pop on. As far as the 30th goes you might want to push back a week as that is Memorial Day week end

Ooooh is it? Yes lets push it back another week. My bad.

I'll try and set up some of the cars. I know I love the RX7 TC. Light, fast and agile. Never used the Skylines before so I'm curious about them. I think the Impreza performs better than the Evo on tarmac as the Evo is supposed to be more Rally inspired. I imagine the Camaro will run circles around the Challenger though. We'll see.

I gather tuning is allowed. I'll just throw a Praiano or RKM tune on them with the same tranny settings to hopefully get a baseline of some sort.

Awesome! I won't be testing alone! Lol.

Tuning will be restricted aside from making the pp limit. That way we all test basically the same cars with the same dynamics. I know I am not as good a tuner as others we race with! I recommend leaving aero stock as well.

During the season tuning will definitely be allowed. If you guys feel tuning wont make a difference in testing let me know and we can work something out.

^OK, that's easier if tuning's prohibited for testing. Wasn't looking forward to tune searching and fiddling with 6 cars tonight! I will adjust the transmissions so they're all the same top end. Won't adjust any individual gears or use any tranny tricks. I'll try and use the absolute minimal engine modding to get to 600pp. Hopefully bolt ons is all that's needed and if not the lowest Engine Stage only. I'm pretty sure the Evo will need Engine Stage 1. Stock aero and wheels.

These are all fun cars so I don't mind running them some even if I can't make the series.

I TOTALLY recommend anybody testing with us to follow these guidelines!

Thanks NCR, I couldn't have put it any better!

Got all cars spec'd with initial oil changes but there's already a couple issues with both the Subie and Evo. I had to max out both engines and add full aero to get close to 600pp. Evo hits 598pp and Impreza only 595pp. With engine break in they'll probably hit 600 but the other cars need the power limiter used to stay under 600. Anyway here's some initial specs:

RX7 975kg. With hi turbo 521 hp@600pp 92.5% limiter
With mid turbo 488hp@600pp 96.2% limiter with added aero(not full aero)

Evo X 1115 kg. Full engine stages/hi turbo/full aero. 545hp 598pp

Impreza 1140kg Full engine stages/hi turbo/full aero. 493hp 595pp

Skyline R32 1145kg Mid turbo 99% limiter 566 hp600pp

Skyline R33 1115kg Stock engine 95.7% limiter 545 hp 600pp

Camaro 1210 kg Supercharger only 97.5% limiter 521hp 600pp

Challenger 1285kg Stage 2 Engine Stage (Stock already has Stg 1) 640 hp 97.5% limiter. A supercharger adds a lot more power so I wanted to keep the limiter down. I think it was up to 690 hp-need to validate.

So now to Laguna. I've got a pretty good idea what car will be fastest-any guesses?

Subie and evo may have to be replaced. In this series pp must be able to go up or down 30 pp or so.

Suggestions for substitute cars requested!
Cars don't have to be limited to TC or RM models but must be "race" cars.

Well I won't bother with the Subaru or Mitsu. That's as high as they will go.

Thanks for discovering that problem for us. Its good to get those out right away.

Also I am toying with an idea of making a Google spreadsheet and having everyone be able to fill it in if they want on their own. That way those that would otherwise not have time to do testing with us can still participate. what do you guys think?

First up I ran the Domestics. Ran in Practice Mode/tire wear on/real grip. Wanted to keep any online variables off plus it's easier to track times and run with a ghost. Used my usual driving mode no aids/ cockpit view/at. Set transmission with top speed at 162 with 165 showing upper left. B/B was 3/0 or 3/1. Sorry about the no abs but I'm just as consistent without ABS now so it shouldn't matter.

The Challenger's laps I got so I ran consistent low 1:24's. Three consecutive laps were 1:24.051, 1:24.055 and 1:24.010. It's a handful at Laguna, it took me a few runs to run consistently. Brake early! It's fast though-great sound. 15 total laps. More tire wear than the Chevy.

The Camaro took me a few to get going running mid-high 1:24's. Then I could knock off low-mid 1:23's with a best 1:22.999. A lot easier to drive fast but not nearly as fun. An easy ride. 10 total laps.

Oh, these are brand new cars with only an initial oil change. Skylines next.
