"OMG ANOTHER VIDEO THREAD?!"

NO, well, not like the others at least :D

This thread is dedicated to uploads of fast laps from this year's GT Academy for the main purpose of reference. Not only the fastest laps will be posted though. Feel free to submit your own times, no matter what pace it is. A good use for this type of thread is also for comparing driving styles and approaches to the track.

I did a thread like this last year and it was helpful for those that wanted a quicker, portable, and more convenient method of reviewing the fastest laps in the competition. Good for when you're stuck somewhere away from your PS3 and wanna keep the track and cues nice and warm in your brain.
This tool should be even more useful this year since PD didn't give us full replay controls. But you have guys like myself to take care of that for you - not a problem :D:tup:

Anyone can submit videos, in fact, I'd encourage it!
Also highly encouraged is requests!
I'll do my best to record anything you guys want. I can't promise I'll get to everything, but I'll certainly try. The times are going to be shifting quickly so be sure to request asap if you want your lap recorded (has to be either top ten World, US or Australia since those are the two accounts I have, although I can make a UK account if needed).

Over the next couple weeks, we'll see the top times drop like a rock, this thread is dedicated to keeping track of that evolution.

I'm currently going over the top ten global record times and collecting split data in order to make a "worldwide optimal lap" combining the best individual split times from the fastest drivers to get a glance at what's possible here.

First video up is Ti-tech85's current best (July 9th), a 2:16.516. I recorded the same lap twice, one from the "bumpercam" view and the other from inside the cockpit for steering input reference.

Here's the Youtube description with split times (thanks to gm matthew):
#1 GT Academy 2013 World Record at the time of this upload.

This lap was done by Ti-tech85 for GT Academy 2013's online qualifier time trial, not by the uploader of this video.

And here's the video:

Here's other videos that were picked out or requested in order to show differences in driving style and approach. You can compare split times in each description of all the videos I upload -

Great idea 👍

Ti-techs lap is insane just from watching this, he completely nails maggots/beckets/chapel, that lap will be very hard to beat by anyone!

Then I'd have to take 3 tenths off from the other two sectors. It's a really rough estimation.

There is a way to find the exact splits. Load the ghost of the lap you want to know the splits of, and then start a lap yourself. At each split marker, note down your time and the difference compared to the ghost, that way it is fairly easy to work out the exact split times.

Using this method I've worked out Ti-tech's split times:
(37.484 - 1:37.147 - 2:16.516)

And his individual sector times:
[37.484 - 59.663 - 39.369]

Yeah, please use these as it is a lot more accurate and not misleading 👍

Ah, thanks. That'll take longer than the rough estimate I've been doing just pausing the video. But the cool thing is that now I know exactly where the little arrow should be over the sector marker on the track map when the time is registered. My estimating will be a bit more accurate. Before I was just marking it at the soonest point the tip of the arrow hit the sector line, now I know it should be all the way over it.

I'll correct the split times I have with yours. Looks like the three tenths I was talking about was given to the last sector, which was faster than I had noted.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. Another great thread to help us lesser skilled players out. I hate the demos replay system and this really helps out as I always keep my laptop by my playseat so I can quickly reference back to a certain replay of someones that I've been studying. Its great watching different people's replays and trying different technics to see what works for you. (me) Hopefully a lot of people will submit their videos here as this will make an excellent referencing thread. Again, thanks for doing this, its very much appreciated.

Just on a side note, I myself still haven't taken a full lap as I am still working on improving each individual sector. I think I'm going to keep going like this and just use the last week for full laps. I'm no threat to anyone anyway, so I'm just treating it like a WRS TT, where we only get one week to set a best lap time.

Glad to help out, your situation is just the kind I was hoping to assist

I used a, hopefully, more accurate estimation method thanks to Matthew's info on the other two videos I uploaded. I cross compared the exact point in time and track map placement to where the game registered the split time on Ti-tech's video (using the exact known splits) to the position of the others.

Here's the splits I gauged, it would be great if someone could confirm them for me:

thre3kgt's 2'17.861

Sector times (rounded to the tenth estimations) -
(37.800 - 1:38.000 - 2:17.861)

Individual sector times -
[37.8 - 60.2 - 39.9]

L-Shooter_RB26's 2'17.059

Sector times (rounded to the tenth estimations) -
(37.700 - 1:37.500 - 2:17.059)

Individual sector times -
[37.7 - 59.8 - 39.5]

I can state L-Shooter_RB26's exact split times:
(37.771 - 1:37.562 - 2:17.059)

Individual sector times:
[37.771 - 59.791 - 39.497]

So your estimation was pretty close. I can't verify thre3kgt's splits as of course I'm not in the US.

Thank you Eddy , for doing this again this year.
My request: I would like to see doodlemonoply's superb DS3 lap. I can't download them since I'm in canada. Thanks!

I second this. :) Will be cool to show my lap so other DS3 users can see what I'm doing.

Well, here is my lap, not the fastest though, I'll upload another video when (if) I'll get into the 17th's. Lap time: 2:18.497

My current best time is 2:18.146 so a 17th should not be that impossible, just waiting for my new TB px21 headset to arrive as my old px21 broke a few days ago.

Awesome-sauce. I'll look into posting my lap, I'll run the numbers to give my splits too. There's probably a quarter second out there still but, I'll be swapping tenths around forever before I get it all right again.

Can you upload Zkippe's lap? I just love to see him balance the car around  And I have also been his psn friend since almost back to when GT5 was released. I knew he was fast (cause I lost almost always against him), but not this fast

Thanks! :)

I second the motion as his lap is one of the ones that I have been studying and it would make it much easier to do so from here.

Thanks everyone.

I was looking at my splits earlier today, and I'd like to ask you guys where you think I can find the most speed/time based on that.

So my 2'18.566 looked like this:
S1: 37.873
S2: 1:38.557 (1:00.684)
S3: 2:18.566 (40.009)

I appritiate any feedback. 👍

I do got the feeling that I'd might be able to reach in to the 17's if I could run S2 closer to 1 minute sharp. Cause S1 and S3 seem more on par with the sub 18 laps compared to my S2..
I defenetly think I got .2-.3 left in Copse..

Hey Denilson, my faster lap 1.17,608, was made with a similar S1, arround hight 37,7xx low 37,8xx don´t remember the exat number, so I would says yes, your secound sector is the one who needs more improve since you´re loosing around one second through there...

Hi Goruk! Long time, no see. :)

As you can see, I've improved my S2 with 3/10ths. 👍

My new PB is 2:17.966 with the following splits:

37.827
1:00.396
39.773
Tot: 2:17.966

I know I can cut .2 in S1 and S3.
Question is how much I can cut in S2.
Is it possible to estimate 1 min sharp in S2?

If so, I might be able to reach down to a 2:17.5-6 somewhere..

LOL, tried to upload my 3rd video showing me racing around silverstone but YouTube says that my 3rd video is a copy of another video I already have uploaded... now I have to edit the video so YouTube allow my new, faster lap time video...

My new PB: 2:17.684

Splits:
37.843
1:37.943 (1:00.100)
2:17.684 (39.741)

I can run 37.6 in S1, and 39.6 in S3, so a 2:17.3XX is defenetly doable. Too bad I aint got more time to spend on GTA though..
