Tuner bodykits? Why not Manufacturer's bodykits/cosmetics?

I was just wondering... some people are very eager to be able to do up their cars cosmeticaly with bodykits and rims. But it came to me.....some car makers offer their own options of wheel choices and aerodynamic aids. It would be an awsome addition to GT4 if these items were available as options when we bought our cars as well as being changable in the future if we so wished :)

Car makers somtimes give a large variety of rims and kits to add onto their models, especialy BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz, even Honda and Nissan!

We should be able to opt for these (and it'll cost us a bit) when we buy the car :)

What does everyone think? 👍

I have to concur with TheCracker here...

Most options that you get when purchasing a new car are to do with what CD player you get and what comes with an electric motor or not...

The few exterior things that come on a car would probably come with the top of the range models that would've been bought into GT (what's the point in having a shopping trolley with a 1.1 engine when we've got one with a 1.6) and therefore come as standard...

I wouldn't push this thread off into the usual "body kit" category so quickly...... I think Leo has come up with a reasonable suggestion.

Many car makers do offer aero parts for their cars that would be nice to have in the game...... for example my S2000 is completely standard but I could have opted for one of two rear wings and a front bumper aero lip that in theory enhance airflow. The Nissan 350Z is similar.

Its only a small detail but again it would be nice if PD could include the more visible options offered by manufacturers.

many manufactuers have aero parts that claim to be functional, and are dealer-installed accessories

functional in increasing the profit margins when selling a new car ;)

I say a big no to tuner bodykits. I'm not against at all, on installing bodykits on cars. The problem is that those parts make no significant affect on performance, so there's no point.

It's like a friend of mine like to say: "See that car? It's an "All Show, No Go!" =D

Race modification should be on the game, like it was on GT2. Because there's a point for it. GT series simulates races, not show cars with custom bodykits and neon.

For those type of fans there are good games like NFS:U, Midnight Club 2 and SRS is coming soon.

so racecars have spoilers only for the show?!

the current bmw m5 has a spoiler so tiny that you can hardly see it, but it makes a difference...

some people here seem to have problems with serious riceophobia. you cannot mention spoilers, bodykits, cosmetic changes, carbonfiber hoods or bodyparts here without causing a mass hysteria...

Well said....... some seemingly tiny aero modifications CAN make a difference to performance....... two real world examples come to mind:

1st the Audi TT....... the original car came without a rear boot spoiler, several months later Audi were puzzled by the number of owners that had trashed their cars in high speed crashes...... the problem turned out to be lack of rear downforce under heavy braking that made the car unstable and prone to spinning off the road! The solution was a install a small (3 inch) spoiler.

2nd...... the VW Corrado...... if I remember correctly the spanish police bought a batch of Corrados as high speed pursuit cars...... in their wisdom they decided that the rear spoiler on the Corrado was only for looks and therefore removed them....... surprise surprise they had quite a few crashes due to the reduced rear downforce!

I said the normal bodykits, sold on any tuning shop, really don't make huge difference.

If you think getting a stock Honda Civic, and add a huge spoiler, and new bumpers and hood will make you fast, i say you are wrong. It will need first a engine tuning.

Why racecars have spoilers? mostly because they race. Rear spoiler only start to make some effect after 140Km/h, 160Km/h. It's when they start "helping" the aerodynamic of the car, so making themselves usefull.

I have no problems with tuning cars, as some of them are really fantastic (i just don't like neon under the car) . But people need to know that Tuning Cars is not just the car style. Engine tuning is where you will gain performance at most.

Indeed, the rear spoiler does not need to be big. The Audi TT is a good example.

Some cars don't even need it, since they have extremely good Cx. The Opel Calibra is a good example of this.

But you understand that rear spoiler only "works" after certain speeds, to increase downforce

I'm not the biggest fan of bodykits...But I wouldn't mind seeing a few. Its really simple for you people that can't stand them. DON'T BUY IT!

Yes but Cx (ie. drag coefficient) isn't quite the same discussion....... the drag dictates how well a car cuts through the air and affects ultimate top speed. Cx doesn't directly relate to downforce...... the Calibra may well have a good Cx in road car form but the Touring car version has a wing...... the wing will increase downforce to help with cornering but at the same time it will reduce its Cx.

And yes the effects of drag and downforce only really come into play over 100mph but for me thats more of a reason for performance boosting "body kits" to be included in GT4 as most racing takes place at high speed :sly:

The only race cars I know of that have a bodykit just for show are the current BTCC cars. Race cars have body kits, the race mod in GT1 and GT2 was a body kit, it was pre-selected thats all, you had no say on what wing and splitter to use ect.

???? I have to admit that I haven't followed touring cars for the last few years but they always used to have functional body kits...... are you sure they are just for show now? Don't they still have wings and other aero parts to enhance performance? A couple of years ago the BTCC regulations restricted the maximum size of wings..... the only reason for that was to limit downforce?!?!?

Since the BTCC was re-structured and the Super tourers of the 90's were done away with the cars bodywork has been non-functional and is there for aesthetic purposes only. Yes they still have a rear wing, but it's not the size allowed, it's the whole wing that has been standardized and it's set up at such an angle and way that it provides next 0% increse in downforce. It's only under the body that's functional in BTCC now, but in the old rules they did have downforce, they had about 50Bhp more as well and I think they were lighter, they hit 60 in around 2 seconds then and stopped faster than a WRC car it's a pity manufacturers stopped supporting them because there was a lack of profit in it for them, even if they won.

when you think about it he has a point, In hondas point of view: there are type r rims and there are non type r cars, there gsr rims non gsr carsin the game, also some side skirts and bumper changes that arent stock on any car and are just purely an option.

Go to an SCCA sanctioned event and tell me how many cars you see that are BONE STOCK on the exterior. There is nothing wrong with lip kits.

If the bodykits are offered by the manufacturer, then I don't mind them being in the game. That is one way they want the cars to look. Do different wheel rims or colour of car make any difference to the performance? I don't think so. They enhance the pleasure derived from the game.

I don't want to go down the mad body modding route, leave that to Need For Speed and the forthcoming Juiced.

There was an article in a Sunday newspaper about Nissan bringing out bodyparts for the 350Z. I couldn't find the article online. :( But it was similar to the before and after pics I've attached. The bodykit on the 2nd 350Z is a 20th anniversary edition. It makes the 350Z look more like a 911 than it already does, but I like it more with the bodykit. And it is an official body kit.

As with all these extra's in the game, it is upto the individual whether they would want to use them. If bodykits are in, and you don't like them, don't use it. :) It's that simple.

Yeah... good Point... as long as they dont make another Need 4 Speed Underground.. With all That Graphic stuff... its all good to me... just as long as u can still drift an show skill unlike drifting in undergound..... and aslong as it does not change the cars behaivor to much.......

Eh we've still got this overtly anti ricer thing happening that I perpetuated a bit in my post for the hell of it, I know a lot of auto dealers offer such things, but I didn't consider putting a wing on my Mirage in terms of improving aerodynamic performance on a what, 60bhp FF car weighing 1200+ kg, it was just to make it look a bit more defined.

a small lip spoiler can help even a modestly powered car with 'high' speed stability - a full-on wing is more likely to slow even the fastest car down remember the Lambo Countach's problem?

This bodykit is now avaiable in Brazil too. It's a full NISMO kit, including wheels, bumpers, spoilers,...

The wheels are the most incredible of the kit. Their weight is almost nothing. A 10 year old kid can grab it without problems. I don't know what composite they used, but it's very light on weight, but it's strong as any racing wheels 👍

And the funny thing about the NISMO 350Z bodykit is that it wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for GT3!!!!.

The race version of the 350Z that appeared in GT3 (or concept) was concieved by KY and PD for the game....... Nissan liked it so much that they decided to create a body kit based on the PD car model. 👍

Whats the problem with bodykits? People like their cars to look different, if it helps in any way, at any speeds then thats even better, but they have wheels which are cosmetic so why not kits as well. Now im not talking about z3 fenders and m3 mirrors available for all cars but just manufacturer stuff for their own cars.
