Tuner bodykits? Why not Manufacturer's bodykits/cosmetics?

We just don't feel it's particularly professional from a racing perspective.

Who's this "we"? I'm a member here and I think it would be OK. And a few other's agree.

I would never say "we" think it's OK.

"Professional", who's getting paid? I want in.

Unless of course you're the leader of an elite undercover group of professional racers. Then it's OK to use the royal "we". ;) :)

lol, damn near every amateur racer has some factory lip kit on their car if not an aftermarket one and almost all professional race cars use aero kits, it's perfectly professional from a racing perspective.

I don't think anyone is objecting to professional racing kits (ie racing mods) its just the pointless 'ricer' body kits that probably have no positive aerodynamic qualities - only aesthetic ones (and thats a matter of opinion) GT is a driving sim/racing game, anything that is superfluous to the driving experience should generally be left out.

Do you really think that body kit on the yellow Integra helps it in anyway?

I'm not massively for or against, I'll have a mess round with it. :) If it looks rubbish, I won't use it. :)

But it is a Sim.

People change their wheels, they put in modifications to their engine and suspension. They also put body kits on their cars.

Bodykits I imagine would be the most common change to a car from the above list, as people strive to make their car look more individual. And while I wouldn't want go faster stripes(that's me being picky), if Ford or whoever offer bodykits, then I don't see why they shouldn't be in.

You want the simulation, but you don't want the bits you don't like.

On the topic I wouldn't mind these kits to be available, but I would much rather PD spent that time giving more cars racing mods and cars that have them, a wider choice of them.

Racing Mods Or NO Racing Mods... as long as it still has the same fill as all the other GTs'.. I dont want the graphics to turn it to UnderGround's.... neons would be point less in GT... if you rather have Neons In Your Gt u might as well go play Under Ground. If you guys would rather have Body Kits and All That Stuff U might As WEll go with that.... But If You Want A Simulation Game With All The Details Of Real Racing Then I Say Stay With GT

If you want a game that simulates turning a road car into a race car you need to include body kit's. Race cars have them end of discussion. No one's said anything about wanting neons and ricer crap that you stick on your cars, just aero kit's aka body kit's but not although every aero kit is a body kit, not every body kit is an aero kit and GT should only have aero kit's.

I don't know... Bodykits really don't.... do... anything. Maybe the addition of rear wings and an actual physical adjusted ride height (like if you lower it to 92 mm, the car would look really low when driving it, or if you raised it to 140 mm, it would look higher) might be kinda cool. But it seems the video game racing market has been tainted with too much cosmetics (as well as real life driving). I really think The Fast and the Furious started a whole "ALL SHOW NO GO" look that can be seen everywhere. Just as long as the Gran Turismo Series never becomes like Need For Rice: Underground, it should do just fine only with performance enhancing parts.

In GT3 if you raise and lower the car in the settings it raises and lowers the car in the game too, it works for camber and toe on the wheels as well you can see it adjusted. As for body kit's not doing anything, if they don't do anything why do race cars use them (not counting the BTCC)? They change the cars shape so the change the way the air flows over, under and around the car and a result of that is an increase or decrease in downforce over the car, read my last post, more specifically the last bit, thoes kit's are designed to improve performance.

And the funny thing about the NISMO 350Z bodykit is that it wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for GT3!!!!.

The race version of the 350Z that appeared in GT3 (or concept) was concieved by KY and PD for the game....... Nissan liked it so much that they decided to create a body kit based on the PD car model. 👍

Yeah. Indeed, i think the kit is called NISMO by Gran Turismo!

I found a pic of the kit, on a brazilian tuning magazine site. The pic was taken on the promotional event, that launched the 350Z here in Rio. The kit was on display.

Who's this "we"?

We in this context is a collective noun used to refer to the group of individuals harbouring a likeminded disposition towards this topic as myself. So don't draw me into semantics.

I would never say "we" think it's OK.

You're fully entitled too if you do indeed represent the opinions of more than one person.

"Professional", who's getting paid?

Who's really driving a car in "The Real Driving Simulator"? Again, you're being pedantic to avoid the point. Who's getting paid? The people who actually take part in GT3 competitions, for prizes. There'll be even more of this come GT4 thanks to true OLR globalising the experience.

I'm all for racing modifications with functional aspects, but the post I was referring to was advocating them simply on the basis of individuality, which isn't sufficient grounds for inclusion in the opinion of numerous people who've taken the time to voice their opinion on the subject.

Look at the very definition of a keyword in this topic's title - cosmetic: Something superficial that is used to cover a deficiency or defect.

Body kits only help a cars aerodynamics if they have been designed and tested that way, i'm sure that 90% of all body kits available are designed for looks by a 'stylist' rather than by an aerodynamic engineer. The 'wings, skirts and spoilers' you see on race cars are designed for specific reasons ie reducing lift, adding downforce or increasing stability. All these additions can also have negative effects on the cars mainly a increase in drag. The testers and engineers of these cars have to weigh up whether the pros outweigh the cons on a race-by-race basis. Since like i said above most of the kits are produced by 'stylists' for posing purposes - the addition of 'dealer' body kits rather than 'racing mods' are more than likely to have a negative effect on most cars.

you guys are moving abit off topic...

I am suggesting that car maker's aerokits and wheels become options.

Even luxury makers have them!

Which is exactley why I specified what type of kit I would want in.

I'm not a big gearhead, I'm not really into racing cars myself, heck I rarely watch racing at all. Yet, Gran Turismo is my favourite video game series. Basically, I'm just a geeky gamer that relies on twitch skills to be good at GT, rather than a deep knowledge of the strategies etc. involved in actual racing.

Now that I've run my reputation into the ground, I can freely say that I see absolutely nothing wrong with cosmetic body kits. Heck I would even be happy to see all kinds of decals and things to plaster on my car. Customizing the appearance of your vehicle is something that I think is pretty cool. (and don't say "Go play NFS:U" cuz I have played it, and I don't like how it handles. Also, it has less than 1/10th of the cars in GT 4, and you never really feel like you own any of them) It's especially cool because of online racing, where it would certainly add to the satisfaction of victory if you beat the guy in a ride that had it's own unique appearance.

Apart from being a complete waste of money, I see nothing wrong with ricers in general actually.

Do you see ricers racing at LeMans? Sebring? Do you see them in any professional motorsport? The only kit's that should be in are aero kit's, not cosmetic kit's.

What's your point?

This game is a driving simulator, not a racing simulator. That is why the vast majority of the cars are road cars.

You don't see a Fiat 500f racing round Le Mans, but if the track was in GT4, you probably could. If Fiat sold a rear wing for a 500f, I'd like the option to put it on(or not) the car. It'd have virtually no aerodynamic effect whatsoever, but it'd make it look a bit faster. I bet if there is a group of people round the world racing Fiats, they probably have "racing kits" on them.

By the way, where does the term "ricers" come from. It makes me feel uncomfortable, unless I'm totally getting wrong its probable source.

Hmm...do you see Dodge Neons, Toyota Vitzes or Honda Beats racing at LeMans? Sebring? Should they not be in the game?

Anyway, I don't see how an addition to the game can be a negative. As long as everything around it is solid, an addition of any kind can't be a bad thing. Especially when said addition is a positive one for most people and really doesn't affect the ones who don't like it, because they don't have to use it.

P.S: I'm not one to rice up my vehicle. I think it's a waste of time and money. That being said, I have nothing against the culture or riced-up vehicles in general.

No, but you do see them in motorsport unlike riced up Civic's. GT is a racing game, that simulates real motorsport, I don't mind people into the car modding scene myself but I share your view that it's a waste of money, I mean why spend 20k doing up a Civic when you could buy a use TVR Tuscan. But the whole car modding scene is not for GT.

As for the term ricer, I don't know for sure, I have an idea and if it' right it's probably offensive in which case I'd better not use it.

Like i said before Aslong as it still has the Gran Turiesmo Feel To It..Isn't That All That Matters? I Mean Come On, Like Alot Of People Have Already Said, If There Body Kits And Stuff, You Dont Like it!! THEN DONT BUY IT!!!!!!

don't shout

- why do ricers always have to make so much noise - if its not their forum posts - its their 'coffee tin' mufflers!

Sry.... Just got outa had...

ps. not a ricer IM just SAYIN.... i dont mind havin them but dont like them to much cuz its just for looks (most times) every one has a good point(some body kits help but most are for looks) most of the areo body kits help out more....

oh and CFH would be helpful to lighten the weight and make it look cooler

I personally don't like ricers too much either however I believe that there should be somthing for all types of car enthusiasts in this game. Its a driving simulator, not a racing simulator.

So if you ask me, anything to do with the auto world that makes it into the game is a good thing, almost no matter what it is.

And common guys, there are so many types of car enthusiasts out there, why not cater for everyone instead of being selfish and saying "no ricers".

And look at it this way! If there are ricers around, racem and killem and laugh at them! :)

That's what I plan to do online with GT4. I'll eat these idiots alive in their panda Corollas.

GT will never have body kits, so you noobs might as well forget about ricing up your Civics.
