Happy with the range of cars?

No questoin GT4 has the largest range of cars ever seen in any game, with the 3/4 hp patent wagen to cars with 1000+ hp but are you happy with it?

Yes there is still a majority of japanese cars and someones bound to whine about that theres ''1,000,000 Skylines'' but PD have clearly made a big effort to include more cars from around the world. Despite the apperant omiiting of a certain F, P and L i am confident that i will not be dissapointed with what we are finally given. :)

How do you feel?

its good that theyv spread the range, but then your not gonna be using every single one, just like gt2 loadsa cars but of course you use the best which is only bout 20/30 at most

I don't know about you, but I think I drove virtually every car in GT2. There may have been some variations of the Skyline, Imprezza and Lancer I didn't get around to, but otherwise, yeah, I think I drove well over 500 cars and their race modified counterparts in GT2

To answer the original question, yes, I'm quite happy with what I'm seeing so far. There's something for almost everyone there. If you can't find something to enjoy, you're either not a car guy, or you're way too damned picky for your own good.

I'd have to say that I am not entirely happy with the range of cars......there are too many japaniese models and not enough cars from other countries.....If (for example) Honda, Nissan, Subaru etc etc can have there entire range represented in GT4 then why can't Mercedes, Jaguar, BMW etc............Why isn't there range going from a 1 series all the way to an X3 for example.......

I have to agree with robin...wish there were more american everyday cars aswell...its not like a 1987 Pontiac Tempest couldn't have smoked a 87 civic

I'am mostly happy with GT selection of cars. Some cars may never make due to licence, rights etc. which I can accept. But more racing series cars thoughout the world would be nice. More V8 Supercars, ETCC cars (320i is in GT4 but not the 156), Grand Am Cup cars, FIA GT and Sport Cars, Trans Am, BTCC cars. Only the WRC was vastly improved in lineup compared to these other series in GT3. Though the larger selection of Concepts and very historic cars (daimler and Model T)helps greatly for GT4. 👍

In particular, I am happy about the return of muscle cars after they were absent in GT3. GT2 had lots of muscle cars: Cougar, GT500, Roadrunner, Charger, etc. GT3, none.

Another thing I am happy about is the return of classics in general. GT3 had only two classics: the Mini Cooper and the GT40. This is after GT2 having classics galore. I understand why this happened. It is because they needed to experiment with the new graphics and couldn't get all of the cars right away. Still, it was sad being reduced to contemporary cars simply because the only affordable classic had less than 100 horsepower.

Classic Japan is interesting. Sega GT 2002 (yes, I play it) has oodles of classic Japanese cars to toy with. I'll be happy to actually see them sorted out properly (I hope).

I agree. While I find the overall "range" of cars adequate, there's always going to be cars that we'd like to see that just don't make the cut. And it's true that the "everyday" cars are pretty much limited to the Japanese manufacturers. While they do have a large assortment of "foreign" cars (remember, Japanese game), they're all sports cars, supercars, or race cars.

I'm one of those folks who has never been able to drive his own car in the game, which has always been a minor annoyance (but hasn't really dampened my enjoyment of the game, of course). To date, I have owned:

198x Buick (Skylark, I think it was)
1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais
1989 Toyota Camry LE
1992 Ford Tempo (my current car)

As much as my little Tempo sucks, I wouldn't mind taking it out for hotlaps on Nürburgring, you know? And that Camry of mine was actually pretty damn quick (V6 engine in a fairly small car.. that thing could haul ass when I wanted it to).

But all in all, I think the overall range of vehicles is pretty good. I've got a "wish list" drawn up, of cars I'd like to eventually add to my GT4 garage, that's got well over a hundred cars on it.

I think the list is pretty good. There are always people who are going to wish for more race cars or more American cars or more from a certain manufacturer, but I think PD did a pretty good job. The spread is certainly much better than GT1 where there was only about a dozen foreign cars compared to 150-some Japanese cars. :) Although, personally, I think there's more than enough Imprezas and R34 Skylines...

The thing is, if you compare GT4 to practically any other game, you'll find that it probably has as many or more of a certain kind of car. Like JGTC cars? There's probably more in GT4 than in any other game. Same thing with German cars, British cars, American muscle cars. About the only thing I would wish for would be some of the 'coachwork' cars from the '20s and '30s. :D

I'm looking forward to collecting every car in GT4. I did the same thing with GT2, and it took me seven memory cards to fit them all in; I'm glad I only need one for GT4.

It seems like a step in the right direction, but as has been said the balance of 'everyday cars' is still heavily biased towards Japanese manufacturers (but obviously this is no suprise). Its nice to see some everyday Euro cars like the Volvo 240 (yay, still hoping for an 850 or 740 though) & Golf GTi. :)

The list is good. But, sadly enough, there still is indeed an overload of Japanese cars, I mean, it's not that I dislike them, but sometimes it's just too much. Fair enough, I guess thats a good hit on the Japanese market, so I won't nitpick about it. The thing I don't like though, is how brands like Aston Martin and Pagani all of a sudden only have one car representing them. Good thing on the other hand is the TVR / Lotus / Audi / Mercedes /... / range. But if they could add all those, why couldn't they update their old V8 Vantages to GT4 standard for example.

<Z>

I used to be someone who complained about the number of Skylines and Evos. But having gotten into both cars in the past year, especially the Skyline I see why each one is there. They are there for a reason, for people really into them to enjoy each model generation.

I am fairly happy with the car lists I've seen for GT4. I'd like Porsche and Ferrari in there and also would like more "classic" older cars like the gullwing Merc. It will be fun to run some of those older cars and get back to cars that missed GT3 (i.e. RUF CTR yellowbird).

The thing is, even if there are a lot of Japanese cars, GT4 will still have more US/European cars than any other game. You guys are too picky...yeesh. Who cares what the percentages are?

Actually, GT4 has more American cars than most other racing games have cars period. :)

I'm not into the FnF culture by any means. I did, however, get my first car not long ago . It's a '92 accord , 2dr,5sp, and I must say i'm looking forward to taking that '88 accord for a spin on the Nurb. I'm sure it doesn't drive too much different than mine, just those ugly pop-up headlights. Can't wait to make the first and probably last accord drifter.

Yeah it does have more american cars than any other games but it bothers me when I see under the Nissan list a huge amount of "tuned" versions of the 350Z and Skyline, and then I look at a manufacturer like Plymouth or Pontiac and there is maybe 4 or 5 cars available. Like in Gran Turismo 3 there was a million lancers and skylines, yet BMW had one freakin car, and not even a very good one. Pontiac's Firebird and the Grand Prix have been a major part of Pontiac's lineup for a long time and I have yet to see either of them in the game. Instead there is a Vibe and a Sunfire...wtf?

Straight and simple it was made in Japan and that's why the game has the selection of cars that it has. I know that sounds stupid and simple but hey it's true. If you swap the 350Z/Skyline in your sentence for the Firebird/Grand Prix, you'd hear the exact same complaint from Import Enthusiasts. Of course the game is going to be largely Japanese cars but I can see where you're coming from with the "why the Vibe/Sunfire and no Firebird/Grand Prix", my guess is that they're more current and more people will own them. But yeah it's a shame some people can have EVO/STi battles, but no Camaro/Mustang/Firebird ones. I'm sure some people would are choked the WS6 isn't in.

Altough the range is good I will never be completly satisfied intill every car ever made is included, but still Im very happy.

Some cars I still want included (there are many but these are ones that Im deperate about)

Nissan Skyline GTS25T (series 1, my car)
Nissan Pulsar GTi-R (friends car)
Nissan 180sx (SR20DET non type X version, friends car)

these cars I feel should be included as they were in other GT's. I want them so bad so I can compare my car to my friends cars.

I'd like to see some more British and Italian 60's sports cars (MG, Truimph, Morgan, Jag, Ferrari 250's , Lambo Miura)

and the Sil-eighty

Did I miss something? I thought there was still no official list of cars yet.......

If the hypotetical/screenshot list here can be trusted, then GT4 is MUCH MUCH better for me that GT3. As an American Car/Muscle Car fan/loyalist, GT3 left me with almost no enjoyable options. The best for me was the Stang' Cobra, but it sucked cause it only came in red (Boring).

For me to enjoy it, I need cars I love. The 70's Charger leads that list, but I sure do hope the new Dodge Magnum makes it in too. The new Mustang is cool, as are some classics. Heck, I even like the Taurus SHO.

It only came in red because the 2000 R only came in red.

the GT library of cars is definitely impressive. but a huge question still hangs since GT1 is where are the important marques such as ferrari, porsche, lamborghini, etc. Even those that had some representation such as mercedes, bmw, and jaguar were way under represented considering the range of cars they put out over the years. those that are mentioned should get as much representation as honda, nissan, and toyota.

Besides the numerous Skylines/Lancers, the list is incredible. No other game that I have heard of even compares remotely (besides GT2).

i actually like seeing the variations of lancers and skylines. lancers have had a long history in WRC and skyline in JGTC. I only wish some other cars got the same attention. Its nice to see the Fina McLaren being in, but they really needed to include the original street car and also the LM version as well. Just to further this point, the beauty of the McLaren was that it was designed fully as a street car. To have a street car be so competitive and dominate is just awe inspiring. The Fina is nice, but they forgot to include the roots leading up to the GTR long tail.
