Week 1 - Laguna Seca

Here it is. The first one.
We chose Laguna Seca to be the venue, the goal is the best single lap time in class.
Azuremen came up with the idea to name our classes after SCCA categories, and we thought it would be fitting to have our first challenge at a course often visited by the SCCA.

It should offer some close competition and careful car selection as the course demands some handling and some grunt to put in a quick lap. We cant wait to see some of the creations that turn up.

Please remember to read over all the rules Here .

The Classes:
You may choose to run in any one, two, or all three of the following fields.
(reminder, PWR stands for power to weight ratio)

  • Class : Street Touring B (STB)
    Minimum PWR: 4.5
    Budget: $70000

  • Class : Street Touring A (STA)
    Minimum PWR: 3.0
    Budget: $100000

  • Class : Street Touring Special (STS)
    Minimum PWR: 2.0
    Budget: $130000

ok, as if there wasnt enough already going on in this thread, i offer to you...
TankSpanker's Challenge:
  • Prepare and run an Opel Speedster for the STA class. Your target laptime is 1'25.000. This is more than reachable in a well ballanced setup. You quick Div 1 buggers should have no problems.

note - This challenge was cooked up on Wednesday, Feb 9, and is just an idea that should help entrants compare skills, and allow Azuremen and I to keep tabs on which cars may need penalizing and who is just 'that flippin fast'. It is not mandatory that you enter it, you may choose only to compete one or more class competitions.

Times and Discussion:
Remember not to post final lap times in this thread. But feel free to openly discuss T-times and tuning options.

Final times are due by midnight, Pacific Time on Friday, February 11th. (or 12am Pacific Time, February 12th, however you prefer to look at it). They may be PM'd to either myself or Azuremen.

edit: That is the same as 8:00am GMT on Saturday the 12th.

Luxy has been kind enough to create a leader board for us Here . Thanks Luxy. 👍
We will be updating it occasionally throughout the week with posted T-times, and with laptimes after the deadline, etc.

Thanks for participating, and good luck.

👍 Good selection for the first race :D
I am not particularly good around Laguna Seca and hopefully this will give me an opportunity to finally learn the course and those 'late-apex' curves ;)

Hopefully the battle won't be too fierce :sly:
Expect 'way-less-than-decent' laptimes from me :D

EDIT: I meant 'T' times - I know, no finish time discussion here...
EDIT II: Please excuse me for the amount of smilies... but I got too excited ;)
EDIT III: I know it says this:

TankSpanker
Since we’re using an honor system, the only requirements will be as follows: class(es) entered, car, pwr, and laptime. ... we may require further information, such as a list of modifications, and T-times or analyzer times, etc. But for now we’ll keep it easy.

in the 'GT3 ISCC Official Rules' thread, but I wanted to ask...

Can we discuss/disclose what kind of modifications we do to our vehicles here, or is it not allowed? You 'race mods' should say if it is allowed as a theme of discussion or not, in the aforementioned thread (if I may make a suggestion ;))

And if I may make another suggestion, I would not allow disclosure/discussion of the mods here (just the class someone is in), such that the competition is a little bit more 'competitive' - if you know what I mean. Or else everybody will end up using the same vehicle with the same settings like it 'more-than-often' happens in the WRS's competitions.

Just a couple of humble suggestions.

posted that in both threads. :)
yes you may

you can talk about T-times, the car you chose, and the mods you gave it. Just dont reveal your final times. The quote you pulled out from the rules thread just highlights what we want to see when you pm your final time to either myself or Azuremen.

And we're not forcing you to disclose your mods, or your car to other entrants. Thats completely up to you.

Fair enough 👍

I was just suggesting that, because more often than not, in the WRS, everybody ends up using the same vehicle. You know, everybody (pretty much) wants to maximize his/her chances at submitting a good/comparable time with the others (without regrets of the like: 'I could have done better than him/her if I used that car too, instead of mine' and the such...)

So I thought that avoiding this type of discussion, would make the 'car park' more vary and let the racer/driver come up with his/her own strategy, instead than merely copying everybody else's.

I won't mind sharing my mods - hell, I am not that good, nobody will listen to me anyway ;) :D But if Hugo Boss shows up here and say: 'I got a time so good it was so good I went back in time' (like his times are in the WRS - he is a true @ss kicker when it comes to racing :D) and then say which car and what settings he used, I'll guarantee you 90% of the racers will take the same car and the same settings (then maybe change them some, to adapt them to their driving style)... ;)

Just my 99 cents :sly:

The Wizard.

And I've got times already for STB...

T1 - 23.738
T2 - 44.693
T3 - 1'07.637

I'll reveal the car later, when I feel like I want to. Can pull a bit more outta this car as well, but too tired at the moment. :P

im very happy with this so far, my only gripe can you also post the deadline in GMT, i have no idea where and what pacific time is, and i have no idea if im ahead or behind. i do however know that im +10:00 GMT. Apart from that

i will get racing tomorrow night hopefully :)

Well, it's 5:53 AM as I type, and I have to say it's been fun so far :D
I tryied 4 different cars, off of a long list ;) I got the best time with the first car I tried... Maybe buying a car that's expensive to start with is not a bad idea, after all.

I'll have to experiment some more tomorrow... (EDIT: read that as this coming afternoon :D)
It's all a matter of compromises... Power, weight, handling... Once I find a car, then it will be time to experiment with different combinations... This is going to be time consuming, nonetheless. At least until I find a vehicle that meets the requirement for the Class that I chose. Then for the following weeks I think I will stick to the same vehicle.

I think ISCC is going to take priority over WRS, for me. I like the idea of having a budget. It makes the competition more strategy based, rather than sticking-every-mod-possible-in-your-vehicle based ;)

We'll see what I can manage to come up with tomorrow...
By the way, I am aiming toward STS Class, but I might de-power the same vehicle and run a couple of laps for STA Class as well.

sweet your my competition! I'm purely in this for the fun of it so I'm for sure not gonna be top 3, plus I rarely drive Laguna Seca. Didja decide what your driving? I'm gonna take one of my fav cars, the Impreza Version VI 👍 IMO, it looks soooo much coooler than the bugeye.

edit: oh and I'll be running STB to stay away from all the hardcores :)

Even if I went to bed at 6 o' clock in the morning, and fell asleep at about 6:30 AM, I couldn't help myself from waking up at 10 AM :D (originally set the alarm clock for 12:30 PM - :indiff: ). So, after 3 hours and 30 something minutes of testings, buying this car versus that car, this part versus that part, I found out my perfect car ;) It hits my PWR requirements almost on the spot 👍 Should end up being at PWR = 2.005 once it's done with the break in process.

Here are my 'T' times:

T1: 0'21.115
T2: 0'39.620
T3: 1'00.858

Still plenty of room for improvement, as I had to break in the middle of the curve in a couple of spots, to keep the lap clean :ouch:
Also the car is not at its maximum horsepower yet... So, I am aiming at a T3 = 0'58.9xx
That would make me happy :D

I am not going to reveal my vehicle yet :sly:

C'mon guys, let's have some competition :D ;)

EDIT: In response to Civicbus' post: Just because I am in STS, doesn't mean I am hardcore lol! :D I am not that good... I just enjoy using high powered vehicles and going fast... I can't do it in real life, I might as well do it in a game. Granted, I am far away from the horses of my dearest (Denso Supra - I miss you :( ) but I am having a hell of a good time with my ... ehm, yeah... can't tell you now ;) :sly:

the Impreza VI STi sedan and/or wagon does not qualify for STB, its PWR is below 4.5 at stock levels
they would have to be run in either STA or STS

the same is true fo the 'bug eyed' ones

edit: feel free to enter STB in one of te legacy's though :D

I'm gonna be most active in STB and STA... I don't even have an STS car built at the moment. Don't know how much time I'll have this weekend, going down to a college campus and hanging with some pals.

I'll get an STA time up in a bit as well, and a revised STB once I see some comp in those classes...

arrrgghh nooo! I'm gonna go load up GT3 in a bit to see what I can run but thanks for the heads up. Maybe I will run STS now.

Please do! 👍 :sly:
I am all alone here, and I won't have anybody to compare my times with :(
Except for TankSpanker, who just sent me a PM saying he will give me some dust to bite ;) :D Thank you, sir

We need more people... Not only in the STS Class, but in the other Classes as well.
I don't want this idea to end before it's even begun :scared:

heeey man no jinxing it!! :D This is the first setup that grabbed my interest and I don't want my first OLR to go kaput! I'm gonna tryn' set up a car for STB or STA but I'm a little short on time so I'll see what I can do.

i will be running all 3 classes this week, dont expect great times from me until i have all 3 cars built nicely, which could take all this week.

STA
21.859
40.826
1:01.586

i have some ideas for STS and also for STB but we will see.

ill be running STA and STB. ill just need to break in both of my cars.

STB has been broken in with over 190 miles. time for some hotlapping!!

STA for me, for right now.

STA
T1 - 24.210
T2 - 45.161
T3 - 108.261

I've found so far that Turn 1 pretty much sets the pace. What do most of you guys have for entry speed into Turn 1? I try to do about 45mph.

STA T times so far:
T1-23.214
T2-43.601
T3-1'05.034

Swift, im getting around 50 for STA.
ill go breakin my STB car and give you some #'s when i get done with that journey(breakin)

Getting around 50? I don't get what you mean bud.

Man, I can tell by the times I need two things....Skill and Settings. In that order! :dopey:

you were asking around what MPH are we getting in the entry for the 1st corner, i replied with 50 using my STB car.
you need setting help? hit me up on aim.

Well, 'If the competition doesn't go to TheWizard, TheWizard goes to the competition...' :indiff: ;)

Since no one here is hardcore enough (as defined by Civicbus) I decided I will do some laps for Class STA as well.
Same vehicle, different mods.
'T' Times so far:

T1: 0'21.921
T2: 0'41.685
T3: 1'02.949

Bad 👎
And I thought I would have had better chances here at the ISCC ;) :D
I have seen a T3 of 1'01.2xx, but the lap was not clean in a couple of spots... tyres just went barely outside the rumble strips...

Oh, well. I still have time to improve.

By the way, if nobody joins me in STS Class, does it mean that I win unconditionally? (Since I am the only one that has posted 'T' times for STS Class) :D ;)

I have added a PWR and budget calculating spreadsheet to the first post of the ISCC Official Rules thread . I hope its helpful to those having difficulties with those two aspects of this competition.
Microsoft Excel is required.

heh its all good man. we all go stupid for a few minutes sometimes.
hit me up sometime on AIM and ill help you with your setup.

Oops. I messed up and didnt see this topic. So, ignore my post in the other thread. Sorry about that. I will definately do stb and if more people are needed in the other classes or there just isnt alot i'll compete in that class too. Now i'm off to racing. :)

Wizard, give us some time to compete :). here is a "hardcore" run in a ~ 580+hp beast. Ive done some STA and STB as well. STS and STA cars are run in but STB isnt :(.

STS
20.915
39.155
58.938

STA
21.974
40.869
1:01.472

STB
23.121
43.458
1:05.977

i have some good faith in my STA car, but STS hasnt had much thought go into it. STB im not sure really.

Thanks for posting a time for the STS, Small_Fryz 👍
I asked for competition, and I sure received a WHOLE lot :D

Wasn't expecting that much. Hell, if I'd have known, I wouldn't have asked for any :D
j/k

Time to take the 580+ HP beast around for yet another spin... ;)
Like I haven't been doing anything else already all day... lol!
