I can't believe they would let this manic into this country! Thats terrible. He was obviously a crazy blood-thirsty criminal, and they still let him in. I guess the US police didn't have any dirt on him, only Canadian blood, so they fingerprinted him and let him get himself in trouble. Couldn't customs hand him over to the Canadian police for questioning? I have no faith in our borders being safe anymore...

Wow. I find it strange that they were unable to determine if it was blood, rust, or red paint on that chainsaw. Does anyone else find that picture creepy?

He will be in my nightmares for the next year, I swear.

Honestly, blood or no blood I would have checked this guy before I would let him pass the border....

 True. He's definitely one of the craziest looking person, I've ever seen a picture of.

This is the problem with the boarders. Illegal aliens cross over and now psychos are crossing. What stops a terrorist from crossing?

It's Liberal laws that let people like this walk free and get a free ride into this country. I can see the Patriot Act working here.

I guarantee you if this guy was arab, he would have been pulled over in a heartbeat. I really hope the guards that let this guy through got fired.

There is no law against looking crazy or being bizaar . There were no warrants on him and he was on no watch list. They had no legal reason at the time to detain him. You want things different then move to a Nazi or a Comunist dictatorship .
How exactly would the patriot act help in this situation ? They do not employ mind readers yet and its still legal to be crazy looking . I guess you think all crazy looking people should be arrested and put in jail ? he was " pulled over " and investigated because of his odd looks and bloody tools but NO complaints , warrants or even speeding tickets were found . So what do you want them to do , invent some stuff ?

I'm equally scared of canadians now!

Well, then there are defintely holes in the system. Shouldn't a man wielding a sword, brass knuckles, and a bloody chainsaw at least detained and questioned?

Didn't you read the story? That's exactly what they did - the detained him, they questioned him for several hours while they ran checks as fast as they could to see if he was wanted anywhere, they confiscated his weapons, and they fingerprinted him.'

There weren't any warrants out - the crime wasn't even discovered until 2 days later - and he was a US citizen. There was no way to legally detain him just for being weird.

I'm with ledhed on this one. I'm not throwing away liberty and privacy just to feel a little safer. I believe Benjamin Franklin had something important to say on that subject.

Was it "Dead or alive, creep, you're coming with me." by any chance?

Technically, Duke and ledhed is right. As the spokesperson for the customs said, they didn't have legal means to stop this guy from entering the States. However, common sense tells me, maybe there should've been a way to stop this man:
CNN
Gregory Despres arrived at the U.S.-Canadian border crossing at Calais, Maine, carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chain saw stained with what appeared to be blood.

I can't believe you can pass thorough customs, armed like that. :scared:

No, but it's not like they let him carry all that stuff into the States. They did what they could.

Yes. From what I've read in that CNN article, I agree that they did everything they could. I'm just saying, maybe there's a problem there.

I'm just glad authorities caught him very quickly. 👍

Yeah, they caught him, but still, it was after he killed someone. Customs could have prevented this if they were stricter.

The only reasonably valid argument that does not delve into a weak theoretical about the "loss of the American ideal of immigration and inclusion" is the economic one, and that's valid to the extent that it is necessary absent viable economic alternatives. If such alternatives exist, the notion that low wage workers are vital, falls on its face.

Too many people think terrorism through our (America's) borders is not a serious threat based on the irrelevancy of character (most hispanics and people crossing from Canada are good people, presumably, though one I share). And too many think the specious argument about statistical probability justifies hamstringing more stringent border control. What's justifiable, as a matter of principle, is being sure policies are as humane as reasonably possible, not citing a statistic that cannot preclude the precedent of small groups being capable of massive damage.

Why did you have to include immigrants here? The article is about a criminal, and you mention immigrants. People like you is why this nation is so ****ed up.

Do you expect an arab terrorist walk all the way from Asia to the borders?

Then you bash the Liberals.

You try too hard to be an ignorant Republican.

Crossing another nation's borders illegally without a passport, eluding authorities. Sounds pretty close to criminals to me. Criminals are people who break laws. I'm no expert, but by crossing borders illegaly, aren't you breaking the law?

It's no use. I've tried telling him that, like thousand times.

Phew. If they let this guy in, I should be able to get in when I go to Canada tonight.

Hah, I'm spending the Fourth of July in Canada. Great American, I am.

See, this is where Liberals get it wrong.

Immigrants come to America legally. They apply for Visas, Greencards, citizenship, etc.

What I was referring to was the illegal immigrants who flood the border and do not apply for Visas, Greencards, citizenship, etc.

Mexican Authorities Capture Two Iraqis Near US Boarder

MEXICO CITY — Mexican agents in Tecate captured two Iraqis who had hoped to sneak into U.S. territory without proper documents.
Federal authorities say Samir and Munir Yousif Shana told investigators they were contacted by a person in their hometown of Baghdad, who said he could smuggle them into San Diego.

The two have relatives in San Diego.

Federal agents yesterday arrested the pair, along with two accused Mexican immigrant smugglers and a youngster, in the Paso de Aguila district of Tecate.

The Iraqis said they met the accused smugglers in Tijuana, then accompanied them by bus to Tecate. The group was walking toward the U.S. border when they were apprehended.

You are over-stretching the meaning of that word. ****ing seriously. You are labeling criminals, the majority of immigrants who happen to wish for a better life. The same immigrants who come here to work under less than the minimun salary. The same immigrants who enrich more this nation and get nothing in return. Oh yes, they are criminals. :dunce:

Criminals are people who break laws. I'm no expert, but by crossing borders illegaly, aren't you breaking the law?

Funny that the article is talking about a suspected murderer US citizen to cross the border and then you call criminals the illegal immigrants. But the ****ing illegal Mexican Immigrants!!!!!

It's no use. I've tried telling him that, like thousand times.

What?

What stops a terrorist?

If it is like that, then no WTC towers would've been blown up, because every terrorist comes from the Mexican border, isn't it?

It just a way of deceving the American people that they are increasing the level of "security" on the country.

WTC, Mexican border, blowing stuff up?

Wow.

Where is that rabbit with the pancake on it's head when you need it?
