Has anyone else seen this black 787B in the game? As far as I know, the only 787Bs that Mazda ran were the famous orange/green car, the white/blue sister car, and the white/green car from the JSPC series.

The only proof of its existance I have found so far is that in 1990, Mazda ran an unpainted 787 (the predecessor to the 787B) at Fuji as a test in preperation for the 24 Hours of LeMans later that year.

The other proof is THIS photograph showing an unpainted 787B alongside a Mazda RX-7 chassis from a Mazda brochure. This car however doesn't have any decals on it like the photograph above does...

Or have we been tricked by a photoshop?

 Oh man, that is an incredible looking car. I don't know how you could photoshop something like that.

That looks amazing. Googling for "black 787B" doesn't come up with anything.
It certainly doesn't look Photoshopped, but why would it be in the game if it doesn't exist?

:S

Seems odd

everything looks good in black ;)
I'd love to see a all black gt-one car. 359, you aren't gonna give credit to who found the pic :sly: :P

Can this be proof of a paintshop? I am just thinking of a reason and this is the only thing I can think of. Maybe you have to unlock 'paintshop'. Ha-ha. I don't really known.

Im sure there's the option to choose car color like in GT3. It would be nice to be able to paint the car any color you want though.

That 787B is hawt... it looks like a super street car... its awesome... I want one...

A paint shop would be nice... as I prefer to have all my cars black.. or at least the ones I race. Just my thing - black cars pwn

The odd thing is that the car is not merely "painted black" The white MAZDA log on the front is bigger and in a differnet location then it should be on the orange/green 787B. Also, you can barely see the word MAZDA on the side, just in front of the rear wheel. The regular 787B does not say that there.

If it's just their testbed car, why is it in the game?

Hell if I know but it is damn sweet! BTW if the paint mode is in GT4 then I will be coloring all my cars pink   I will most likely paint them black or silver since it would look badass.

The stealth black 787b has become the instant must have for GT4 👍 Black Widow will be a approiate name for this beast 💡

None of the body panels on the provided 787b pic are ones that correspond with the logos on the GT4 car. I think it's the test car.

I just found this:

Here

No other information though....

That's where I got the information in the first post. Except that's a Mazda 787, not a 787B. And the white logos are in the wrong place still.

It could be a made up livery, too. Remember the Castrol Supra in GT1, you could get it in the normal white/green/red livery, and in white/blue/red (same with the NSX LM GT1, originally red in real life, but available in orange in the game)

to accompany that sheet that GT3man2001 posted is the text:

Set 209 covers 787 chassis nr.001 in its 1990 Le Mans 'Art Sports' livery. This car failed to finish the 1990 Le Mans race due to an oil leak.
In addition decals are provided for an unpainted test car as it was driven at the Fuji race track in preparation for Le Mans.
All decals are provided to do both versions (although you have to add about an acre of carbon fibre print for the test car, Scale Motorsport sheets 1024 and 1020 are perfect for this).

i got the infor from here

Yep. The decal says "Fuji Test", for the black one. I don't know why the "mazda" decal on the car is in the wrong place.

I'm with PunkRock on this one. There's been made-up liveries for the race cars before in the series, and also different colours not normally available on the normal street cars (that Boulder Blue or whatever NSX S Zero in GT3, or the Islander Green Supra and S2000). This could be the same case.

They aren't the same car. The car in the decals thing is a Mazda 787. The car in the GT4 photo is a 787B. They're different cars.

has anyone noticed that the black 787B looks like its rolling on front steelie look-a-likes.. and the rears are not.. im confused.. you can have 2 different sets of wheels, front/back? (i kinda doubt it, but thats wat the pic looks like).. and those front wheels are ugly! hopefully u can change those unlike in GT3 where u couldnt change the 787B wheels (although those were sexy).. Those wheels in bronze would look sexy on the black 787b..

359: What's the difference between them? Thanks in advance!

This sounds really dumb, but out of all seriousness, I remember what looked and sounded like an all-black 787 or 787B (don't know which one) in a Mr. Clean ad...

Edit: wrong car, nevermind

That does sound dumb, but could be real.

The cars in both the GT4 screen shot and the one with the stripped rx-7 look like they are the same model, but it is hard to compare a car facing you with a car looking away. Both have a NACA vent near the front wheel immediatly followed by a larger vent, and both have a large vent infront of the rear wheel. I guess it's just an additional paint job.

That was a Dauer 962LM, basically a watered down, road legal Porsche 962 Group C monster.

Are you talking about the one where that black car is racing a supercharged '68 Charger and is winning until the Charger starts using the supercharger and blasts by it ripping the black car's sheet metal off?

I'm guessing they just wanted to put in a "test run" style paint scheme. It looks great, whatever the reason its in.
