KoukiFC3Si dont really like how the 787B sounds like
Ive never heard it in real life tho, I missed it at SS7
Pink_the_FloydBoring, who cares.It's just a Mazda 787B.

That's right. The only Japanese manufacturer to win the top class and overall.F310BThat has won Le Mans more times than your precious TS020.
Well, I think you totally missed my second post when I replied to your statement about carbon brakes needing cooling and duct work. Here..........icondont mean to be a nitpicker, but reread what you wrote before. "heat isnt really an issue with brakes like that." (reference to carbon brakes)
this statement is false. they are constantly figuring out the best mechanical advantage and best aero package. sometimes they need compromise the two factors. but this still does not deter from the fact that carbon brakes need cooling.
i just dont want you to mislead people into thinking that carbon brakes is a silver bullet solution in the issue of brakes.
I understand that carbon brakes aren't perfect, and yes, they can overheat (very spectacularly, I must say, also). But, as you can see in my second post, I think it was more of a choice between wanting a highly aero-efficient package, or giving the brakes a bit more flow. At a track like La Sarthe, where speed is a huge factor, I believe the speed and aero would be a higher benefit. And, like I also said in that post, with brake changes a common thing in the pits at the 24HR race, cooking the brakes a bit faster than usual doesn't hurt you as much.JNasty4G63Right, but as I was saying, I believe they probably wanted more aero over more cooling. Heat is ALWAYS an issue with race cars. Be it in the engine, tires, brakes, trans, diffs, whatever. Heat is bad. But, if they had the choice to either run covers on the wheels for more aero, or open it up for cooling, I think thats why they chose aero. And, since brake disc and pad swaps at LeMans in the pits is a common thing, I think that makes it an even easier choice.
Not true. Carbon discs have been used in racing since the mid-late 80's. They've been used in the aerospace industry since the '70s. Brembo even talks about this on their website. Interestinly, some of the first uses of carbon discs were used in drag cars in mid 80's. Used mainly for weight savings, but the use was there. And, to quote that R&T article from that link earlier.........Buck-OFirst, the 787-B was in an era BEFORE carbod disks. It would have been using a ceramic disk, with carbon metalic pads. WHich generate EXTREME amounts of heat. Far more then carbon brakes at present do.
My position still stands. The 787B, as most cars racing the 24HR race, are very high-tech, and highly advanced. I'm sure in 1991 they would have had them. And, as you said, I'm also sure the vanes on the disc is to help get heat out. But, the reason for it being flat on top is to help the air more cleanly move over the wheel. If the wheel isn't covered, and the rim dips in from the plane of the bodywork, it could disrupt the air a bit more than they want. Like I said earlier, I'm sure its just a trade-off. Run the discs for a better aero package on high speed tracks, or open them up and cool the brakes more on lower speed tracks.R&TExcept for an additional sticker recalling its participation in the 1999 Goodwood Festival of Speed, this 787B is still exactly as it was when it won at Le Mans 10 years ago......The highly efficient carbon-disc brakes are by Brembo.....
Oh? Does that eman you can change decals and racing number in for any car you have unlocked it on in Simulation Mode?SambertoIm off to unlock alternative colours and racing numbers
JohnBM01In response to Post #17 by PunkRock, I don't know why you'd get a Castrol machine with white with red/blue accents rather than the traditional white with red/green accents. Or also when you won a certain race or race series in GT1, you get this Castrol Supra that's black with red/green accents. It's tradition to me, but yeah.
The Mazda 787B is two things- fast and loud. The acceleration is sensational, but kind of want to listen to something else because it seemed to be too raspy for an engine sound. This black machine is the test car as our former GTP member Darin said. It should still be quite fun to race.
NOTE: Thanks to a screwy computer, I tried to get this in as soon as I could, but this is really days old as I haven't really seen any other replies since my last visit.
By the way, haven't seen you in a while, Samberto, sir. Oh, and while I'm a fan of the Toyota GT-One, if it hadn't been for Johnny Herbert and the Mazda 787B, Japan would have, uh... NO Japanese manufactuers winning the Le Mans enduro. And if the beautiful RX-792P didn't keep having turbo fire problems, Mazda would have gone two straight granted that there were great drivers behind the wheel.

where have you heard about these alternate colour schemes? post pictures if you have any...SambertoNo doubt one of PDs alternative colour schemes. See BMW below. Incidentally, looking at the GT4 instruction manual, you will see a picture of the alternative colour scheme for the Judd Pescarolo. P 29
Further, the instruction booklet contains an interesting pre-race image of group of cars. p.11
It includes:
Blue and yellow coloured Ford GT 05
White Red and Green coloured Ford GT 05
Blue Dodge Viper GTS/R 00
White Red and Black coloured W12 Nardo 01
Red Pagani Zonda C12s 7.3 02
