Nurburgring Race Series, Week 14
Race Cars 450-650HP

For Voting Results See Post #2
For Race Results See Post #3

**Voting Deadline is Wednesday, February 1, 2006, 9pm GMT (=4pm US EST)**

I’m posting this early (even by my standards) because I’m closing voting early. I’m doing this to allow a little extra time to procure the car in case you don’t already have it in your garage. Almost all the selections are prize cars and some of them come from the more difficult or lengthy events.

Once again there are 6 choices. 3 slots on the voting ballot. Your top 3 choices, in order of preference, just like always.

All the choices get just an oil change. This week we’ll be racing on R4 tires.

On to the choices:

Chevrolet Z06 Race Car
Availability: Chevrolet Dealership, Vette! Vette! Vette!

Lister Storm
Availability: Endurance Hall, Suzuka 1000

Ford Falcon XR8

BMW McLaren
Availability: Extreme Hall, GT All Stars

Ford GT LM Spec II
Availability: Professional Hall, GT World Championship

Pagani Zonda LM
Availability: Mission Set 3

No discussion of car selections. Voting deadline is Wednesday, February 1, 2006, 9pm GMT (=4pm US EST). Vote via PM to me.

Voting Results:
6. 02pts Vette
5. 05pts Falcon XR8
3. 09pts Storm & GT LM Spec-II (tie)
2. 14pts Zonda
1. 21pts McLarenAvailability: Extreme Hall, GT All Stars

Mods:
Oil Change >> 642HP
R4 Tires

It was encouraging to have 9 voters this week. Hopefully we'll have a strong group of competitors.

Race deadline is Monday, February 13, 2006, 9pm GMT (=4pm US EST). Submit times to me via PM. Standard OLR rules apply. The additional time this week was intended to help those who may not have acquired this car yet but I guess it also allows some additional track time.

Holy crap! People really want to drive that car. I didn't even put it in my top 3.

Although i didnt want to start driving week 14's car until next monday I couldnt resist a quick lap this morning.

WOW. This thing is fast. First impressions are that its default set up does NOT suit the ring......but this is the first car for me that makes the straights seem like short bursts of acceleration between each corner.

I had a terrible lap coming off several times and spinning twice but the good news is that the BMW/McLaren F1 race car doesnt have issues with wheelspin or getting its power down, so with some setting changes to stop the grounding and a general softening up of its attitude a good week should be had by all im sure.

Having not driven much else during the NRS so far Im really pleased that the series has demonstrated the sensation of speed in the cars right from the Triumph Spitfire in the warm up to this ultra quick F1 GTR, also demonstrated is the gulf in grip levels between the tyres, the R4's finding seemingly endless levels of grip.

Should be fun

regards

David

Just out of curiousity...did anyone need the additional time to get the car? If one of the other cars would have been selected would you have needed the additional time? I never know what to think. I've noticed that many people on gtp don't seem to be worried about some aspects of the game and if they haven't needed a car for a specific competition they may not have invested the time to win certain events to acquire the cars.

I have an ubersave so it's not really a problem for me. If I don't race it's because I either don't have time or I don't like the car/track/combo. In the case of the NRS it has always been because I don't have time. :D

Just wrapped up session 1, full stock trim. Feels pretty stiff. The suspension needs a lot of work. But even so I'm already about 20s ahead of the Falken and still get to turn off TCS/ASM, change the oil and put the R4s on.

T10 = 5'26.085, 76.0 miles

Nice write up. Congratulations. Makes me want to watch your races. I'm glad at least one competitor needed the additional time to acquire the car.

I re-ran the event this morning to get a new McLaren. I used my Black Nissan R92CP. I finished 2nd at Sarthe and Infineon and nearly blew the 'Nurb which would've been quite embarrassing. On lap 1 the car was apparently too stiff and went nutz approaching T1 and then again on the straight after Flugplatz. I was 19s behind but managed to catch the Nissan R92CP just after T10 on lap 2 and won. I believe his tires were gone too as after 1/2 way on the last lap the interval dropped like a lead baloon. I used R2s rear and R3s front.

Had my first real session with the Macca tonight after putting the Falken to bed for the week....

Took lap after lap to tune out that stiffness and find a balance, however after much trying i have the car near to how i want it, fairly neutral and just a touch of wheelspin/oversteer to tell me when im pushin too hard, settings below please do try them, i found that soft is the way forward for me with a slight bias towards the rear being lower and softer than the front :

Springs 7/6.5
Ride height 80/75
Bound 2/2
rebound 6/6
camber 2.7/2.2
toe N/A as yet....
stabilisers 5/4

Gear ratios - auto 17 with 6th clicked back to 0.883 - V max = 211 at T11

Brake balance 5/3

Below are T times with any associated problems/comments within those sections:

T1 = 37.310
T2 = 1'05.055 (o/steer entering SchwedenKreuz) (v max = 205)
T3 = 1'28.741 (Bumpy going through Kallenhard)
T4 = 2'11.022
T5 = 2'42.653
T6 = 3'04.048 (need to hold more speed thru KM11 before Kesselchen)
T7 = 3'45.431 (3rd thru Karussell works well...👍 )
T8 = 4'20.594
T9 = 4'38.735 (Surprisingly planted thru Pflanzgarten:tup: )
T10 = 5'14.315 (Hit kerb:tdown: = slow through GalgenKopf before T10)

nuerburg1uk.gif

Target then is T10 of 5'10 which will prob be easy for the usual suspects..:)

Replay look good and car is no longer bumpy, looks quite smooth with above settings, maybe still needs ride height raising slightly...

regards to all

David

with springs that soft, i'd probably raise the ride to 95-ish.
also the rear being lower than the front is a bit strange, if you're trying to control the MR kick-out... just add +1 or +2 of rear toe, usually cures any mid-engine orver-rotation issues without causing any new problems.

Just finished a few laps... :sly:

5'07.0?? T10

I hope to get below 5'06.0 before the end of the week. 👍

Not posting my setup this week.
If you are interested in the setup just PM me and we can take care of it privately. 👍

Regarding advice about the lap... (not that anyone will care or take it) :rolleyes:

Just worry about completing a lap.
After that start pushing more with each lap.

As of now I can't even tell what the max for this combo would be. :confused:
My initial guess is somewhere in the 5'02.000 T10 area. :eek: :scared:

My 5'07.000 lap is down by .6 at T1 and theoretically .9 by T2... 1.3 by T3 and after that I've usually screwed up the lap and can't get much more out of it.

So with that in mind, hopefully I will manage a sub-5'06.0 T10 this week. :dopey:

I suppose only time will tell.
Back later on after I've completed a few more laps (the splits above are from about 50 miles of driving so who knows what a few hundred miles will show). :mischievous:

Until next time,
-Kent

I had a horrible session with this car this morning. Turned off the aids and kept screwing up the lap almost everywhere. Then I went ahead and changed the oil and put on the R4s and still kept screwing up. Probably got 170miles on this car and still have a great deal of work to do. It seems that, so far, this car requires more pedal modulation than anything else we've driven. I didn't get any complete laps any better than my full stock trim lap and none of them were clean either. I may have to turn on a little ASM?

**HOPEFULLY** with more seat time in the car I tame this kitty and get some decent laps within 10s or so of Kent.

Just completed my first run, this beast really rocks, had to soften the suspension quite a bit and lift the height before I could complete a lap, tried taking it easy to complete a clean lap but the car still managed to build up so much speed so quickly I was still slamming into things :crazy: .

I did manage a clean lap however and I'm pretty sure its my fastest ever clean lap of the Nurb, so thats good, however when seeing Daves time and then Kents I know that there is plenty more time there to try and lop off so I will press on and try to improve the result a bit :).

T10 - 5.23.103

👍

Steve

Well,
I've put in some time with the combo once again and found more room for improvements. 👍

First off, my times...
5'04.5?? T10 (more like 5'06.0 thanks to a horrible finish)

However, the news that I find to be more important is related to a ruined lap I never finished. After setting a 5'05.9 T10 record/ghost, I ran a lap that was 2.??? seconds ahead by T8.
Not sure exactly how it would have ended since I ruined it just before T10. :ouch:

Point is, I'm sure 5'03 is there and maybe even for me.
Now I can only guess that the max for this is somewhere in the 5'00.000 T10 area. Since the lap is constantly suprising me though, I can't be sure of even my guessing. :boggled:

Back tomorrow with more news (hopefully).
Until then,
-Kent

And Steve,
Is the Avatar from Bubba Ho-Tep? :lol: 👍

Of course your more than welcome:tup:

well had a 2 hour stint at this twitchy car and managed 5'02.2xx

i used an ultra soft setup also

4.0/4.0
105/105
1/1
1/1
.8/.8
0/0
1/1

every thing else standard cept lsd 5/5/5 and no aids

catchya

Still workin' on it. Had to turn on the aids TCS=3, ASMs=6. I feel so defeated...like riding a bicycle with training wheels.

T10 = 5'12.917, 300 miles ... at least it's clean!

I'm certain there's another 0.4s out there for me...if I have the stubborness to fight this monster for it. Based on my full stock trim run (T10 = 5'26.085) I feel like I should be doing much better than this (+30HP and R4s).

I bet the Toyota 7's gonna be a real handful next week, yikes.

Alright,
Now this is interesting. :mischievous:
I've got something to work towards now. :cheers:

Thanks for popping in Holl01. 👍
5'02.2 is a good time (although I'm sure you can do better with more time).
With luck and skill I may be able to match up to that lap but I can't be sure of it... It will be hard to even break under 5'03 so I'll just have to work on it and see what happens.

At any rate, this has put me back onto this race with more excitement than I have had for a race in a long time. :dopey:
I'll be back this afternoon to post my progress (after school).
Until then,
-Kent

New T 10 time for myself of 5'12.180....👍

Happened on the first lap and was the only clean lap completed in 30 mins driving:indiff:

Being 1 second per sector behind Holl01 on the Ring doesnt seem so bad so im fairly happy with it overall...!

Watched the replay and saw lots of good corners and lots of silly errors that must equal a couple of seconds, seen 1.7 up on that time above just at T4 but after that 1st lap couldnt string a good sequence of corners together.

So halfway to my target of 5'10 @ T10 then.....interested to see how quick the top three are although nothing will surprise me:)

And Steve,
Is the Avatar from Bubba Ho-Tep? :lol: 👍
Hi Kent, yes well spotted it certainly is from Bubba Ho-Tep 👍
Great movie, not just an Elvis Vs a soul sucking Mummy movie, plenty of great one-liners, plenty of depth, a moffie that definatley needs to be seen more than once. :)

Back on topic - no improvements from me had a short session yesterday, crashed and burned every lap I ran, always somewhere different, might try even softer setup next time.

Nice Split time there goixoye, left me for dead, now your closing in on the heavy hitters 👍

Good to see ya holl01 welcome 👍
