From what I heard it's the prize you get on the licences if you just miss by a very small amount. I've never had any of them either.

You call yourself a lord of Gran Turismo yet know nothing about the "Kiddie Prize?" ;)

There are 2 ways you can get this:

1. If you have all 3 GT1 licenses (B, A and I-A), you can start GT2, go into the "Data Transfer" menu and hit "Convert". The game will then give you your B and A licenses in GT2, no questions asked. However, you will not have any trophies (and therefore no inflated ego). No bronze, no silver, no gold...instead you'll have these yellow & green ribbons known as "kiddie prizes". It's basically a quick & easy way to get into a new game without doing the license tests. I myself am guilty: my very first game of GT2 I converted just 'cause I was impatient.

2. Supposedly if you do a test over and over and almost make it, the game will have pity on you and award the ribbon. Since I rarely fail tests, I have no idea if this claim is true or not.

In Japan, new drivers are given this green & yellow ribbon to put in their car. It's called a sho-shin-sha or something like that. It's basically a way to warn more experienced drivers that this person is still learning.

Exactly what I would have said ;)
I don't know exactly where I read it but I think it was somewhere around here. About the symbol on the japanese cars, yes I have actually heard of that, but you explained it very, very well. I don't think it's called a sho shin sha though.;)

I forget what the ribbon is called...that's close enough and I don't feel like navigating on my webtv for a half-hour just to find the exact term. Sumbduddy help me. Do they have something like this where you live Sucahyo?

No. Novice driver usually less threatening here, it's more dangerous to them. Most danger usually comes from people who feel like expert driver, high speed, sudden brake, sudden turn, zig zag driving 👎 ....

This is true in America also. The most experienced drivers are usually the ones who are least interested in doing stupid ****. When they want to go fast, they make sure to do it on a road that isn't densely packed with cars.

New drivers are usually too terrified to drive stupid, but some of them do it anyways and wind up with DUIs or wrecked cars. In my shop this kid has wrecked his Mitsubishi 3000GT TWICE and we've had to rebuild his front suspension 2x in the last 6 months. I don't know why his parents let him drive. Idiot.

Maybe they think their kid will be safer with heavier car. Isn't 3000GT among the heaviest sport car in GT2? It sure win against Civic or Miata.
It will be more dangerous to people though 👎.

Yep, I know that symbol -- it's funny, I've seen ricers with wakabas on their cars...

They think that just because it's Japanese, it's cool, or something. They have no idea what it really means.

Flammed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I converted my GT game as well, but I was disappointed with getting the kiddie medals instead of gold and of course you don't get the prize cars either. In my next start I didn't bother and went through the licenses again.

I also earned a kiddie medal at one of the slalom test's where I was getting so close but couldn't quite get under the bronze time. I eventually converted it to gold.

I think it was one of the better features og GT2, after all if you look through these forums you will see lots of people frustrated by missing times by hundreths of seconds, at least this way you could move on and come back later to convert it to a proper value.

Although there's a number of interesting and unique elements of culture in Japan, some things were just meant to stay on their soil. Putting a novice driver medallion on your car is one of them. Some people will do anything, just because they do it in Japan.

Except harakiri, of course.

You could give them a vinyl with Japanese writing and they'd put it on their car without knowing it says "I am stupid."

Oh geez, that wasn't meant to be a flame. Just sarcasm.

Yeah I agree sorta...the Convert feature is handy when you're in a hurry but it assumes you've already spent time working on your licenses in GT1. When you fail a test and the game awards you the ribbon anyways, that's clearly meant to be a newb-friendly way of saying "hey, don't go back to the store to get a refund on your disc now...we'll let you slide"

[cruelty] If ricers adapted Kamakazi driving styles transportation would be a lot more interesting... [/cruelty]

Yes but they wouldn't kill themselves, just other good drivers...

Occasionally we'll get a ricemobile in my shop for a state inspection. Maryland has one of the toughest inspections so it's like “that muffler fails..wait, that's a straight tail pipe without a muffler!” FAIL After market Tint on the windows? FAIL Bumper too low? FAIL

Why did you bring up a month-old thread, only to add nothing to it?

Stop being a troll, and move along.

Of all the times I have failed those tests, NEVER did I get a Kiddie Medal. What gives?

I don't know what to tell you. I've never received a kiddie medal either, except when I converted my GT1 licenses.

I got a kiddie medal, just one, it's kinda degrading. I think it was the slalom licence test in the S2000. I tried that friggin thing for hours and wound up with a kids prize. Not cool.
