People has mentioned problems scattered all over this board, so I thought putting them all in here would be a good idea. Let's start with me:

About a week after we got the console, from release date, the console started giving us 3 red lights. We figured out in the end that leaving the disc in the console while it was off, then turning it on was causing the problem. Nothing major there.

Next, just a week ago, our console threw us a big problem. It started playing up on me as soon as I turned it on. I turned it on several times to make sure it just wasn't a one-off thing - it wasn't - 3 red lights would appear or the console would freeze. Dad wrung up MS, followed the instructions he gave, and still no difference. The last theory the MS man had was that a gamesave file was corrupt (or out of sync with the console, can't remember). He said to eject the harddrive and see if it went away. It did. So the man said we had to delete some of our latest gamesaves so it would go away. This annoyed me a little, but if it's to fix the console, it's fine... So that was that, and it was fine for the last 10 minutes I played on it that night.

The next day, it packed up again. I got Dad to have a quick look at it, ejected the harddrive again and it froze without the harddrive plugged in. That blew MS's theory then. They then told us to send it into them to fix.

Luckily, we got our console back quickly. It was completely replaced! The serial numbers on the powersupply and console were different to the old one. It's quieter too. :)

So, what are your experiences?

Mine crashes sometimes on startup, the XB360 is the only console I've ever owned that's caused problems barring when a TV fell on my original PS, the XB360 games are great, the console isn't.

No problems for mine, I got it 3 weeks ago...just thought I'd add it in :P (If I have just jinxed it I will get really angry)

In the two weeks I have had mine, the only problem (thus far) has been the menu thingy (the one that comes up when you press the center button) freezing over the game while I am in an online game.

...Other than that, everything works great...

This is a great thread idea. That way I will know what to watch out for when I get my 360 within a few months..

yeah good thread, when the PS2s out we should so similiar, and then I can find out when its safe for me to buy each respective console.

I bought mine in Feburary.

The only problems were that sometimes it didn't read discs correctly, in it's vertical stance.

I put the 360 on the shelf horizontally, and most of the read disc errors are pretty much gone now. Most likely, it's a crappy disc drive.

The disk was rubbing inside the disk drive. I guess it's because there was some piece of plastic from the disk broke inside.

Exchanged the 360 for a new one. Now it doesn't make any sound.

I bought mine on launch, had several freeze problems, called MS, 72 hours later I had a new Xbox360 and no problems since then.

lol i got mine on Friday and i'm just wondering, (Since i didnt buy the warranty), if i had a problem like the ones listed and i called MS would they still replace my Xbox???

I've only had one problem so far with mine, and that was freezing during PGR3 gameplay or something like that (one time thing). Haven't had any problems since then.

I wasn't expecting my console to be replaced, they never even said they replaced it. Be warned though, they will get you to do no matter what before they repleace it, like with me and deleting savefiles. Even then, I can't 100% guarantee that they'll replace it.

That is when you say "Ok, let me format the hard drive real quick.......Alright, lets see if it works now....Nope." MS Rep: "Sounds like a console problem then, send it to [address] and we'll get it back to you as soon as possible." You: "Thanks!"

All without actually doing anything. Once they say to send it it, go ahead and format the harddrive so they think you really did try to get it working.

Disclaimer: This may or may not work, I have not tried it because my X360 has been problem free. I bought it sometime around March.

Never guess what happened just this minute? Over 2 months with this new, replaced console, it is doing the EXACT same thing the old console did. I've tried removing the Hard Drive like they suggested before, but every single time it either freezes on start-up or shows red lights, not booting up at all.

I hope they give us a replacement console, and soon at that with the new game releases coming.

The drives in the 360 can be different sometimes. There a Hitachi - LG one or a Samsung - Toshiba one. The hitachi drive is louder then the samsung drive. I'll post something that shows how to see what drive you have

Holy hell, it happened again? Those games better be worth it.

Dad wrung up MS, and within 5 minutes of explaining things, they said to send back the console. At least they're letting us do it a second time...

Well I just had a problem with my 360 today. It gave me one red light and error code E74, which I looked up on other site to be AV cable not connected correctly or something along those lines. Well I have tried everything they have suggested and have not gotten the error again.

Before this though, I have had multiple games freeze on me. Of the five games I own--Madden 2007, NCAA 2007, GRAW, Kameo, PGR3--only Kameo has yet to freeze on me, though Madden 2007, PGR3, and GRAW have only frozen once on me. NCAA 2007 has frozen on me multiple times.

I do not really know what to do. I have never had any problems with a console before the 360, so I do not really know what to expect. Any suggestions?

Man. This much time after launch, and the 360 is STILL having problems like this?

Good job Microsoft. See what happens when you release a console too early?

Just further justification that I should spend the extra 3 or $400 and upgrade my computer.

Yeah, thats why I went ahead and bought a 360. I figured by this time they would have a great majority of the problems figured out, but apparently not. I have not even had my 360 for a month and I have had it freeze multiple times, along with one error. 👎 Other than that, I am very much happy with the system and the games. 👍

It should say when it was built on the back of the 360. James' second 360 was made last November, so it was doomed from the beginning. My second 360 (yes, my first one scratched and rendered most of my games worthless) was made in May or June I think (I returned the faulty 360 to Costco and got a brand new 360), and it has worked perfectly. No read errors, no freezing, no scratching, nothing.

Vash, where'd you buy it from? And what's their return policy? I would try to return the console and get a new one, but if you can't do that, call Microsoft, explain everything, and they should let you send to them so they can repair it, replace it, etc. Just don't send your HDD, so you won't lose game saves, downloaded content, etc.

I had PGR freeze on me once a couple days ago. I could hear the disc spin down (which is exceedingly rare in that game), and then it just wouldn't load the next bit (I was exiting a race). I went back to the dashboard, then tried to load the game again, and it gave me a "Disc is unreadable" message. I popped the disc, set the console horizontal (I'd had it vertical up to that point), reinserted it, and it hasn't given me any problems since.

I think it was the disc, though. If I look closely at the bottom of the disc, I can see a slight discoloration that indicates a problem in the original pressing of the disc. It's playable, but if the game hits it just right, it'll have a hard time reading it. I've got a couple movie DVDs that are the same way.

On the flip side, I've had my 360 a grand total of four days now.. I bought it last Saturday.

Apparently, MS has slightly altered the manufacturing of the console. A guy on IGN tore apart one the new ones (manufactured in late May, as mine was), and noticed a couple extra heat pads here and there, as well as normal thermal paste on the GPU heatsink.. one of the top theories about the launch unit RROD (Red Ring of Death) was that it was caused by some fancy-pants heatsink they tried to use on the GPU. In theory, it's supposed to work better than normal thermal paste, but it didn't work out that well in actual practice, especially with a mass-produced item like the Xbox360. Apparently, MS has unofficially acknowledged the flaw by fixing it.

I'm hoping that means my console will be more forgiving than the launch units and less prone to the RROD.

I just looked at the back of my 360 and it says the Manufacturer's Date is 2006-05-19. I bought mine from GameStop and I am not really sure of their return policy; but I am pretty sure if I were to return it to them they would probably give me a new one in exchange, though I am not certain on it. I may have to stop by GameStop on my way home from class tomorrow and see what they say about returns. I may also give Microsoft a call also.

Well I had the same error occur again just a little while ago. I decided to go ahead and email MS about it tonight, so hopefully when I get home tomorrow I will at least have some feedback from MS. I probably also need to go ahead and stop by GameStop to see what they have to say about the problem. This really definitely blows. 👎 Oh well, what can really do? (Other than hope for a system that never has a single problem at all.)

My launch console hasnt had a problem. Not one. Maybe it was just lucky. Where was your 360 made? Mine was made in Dublin

I am guessing it also says that on the back of the console? If that is the case, then mine says, "Made in China".

Where at in the manual? I just kinda had a general look through of mine yesterday. Oh well, I will have to look for it later. I need to get prepared to go to class.

Just a quick update. We received our replacement console this morning, and all seems fine so far. It was made 25th Janurary this year, so it isn't completely new... but who knows. I'll play some games on it later today it see if everything is working properly (finally, Saints Row!). :)
