Are you using a router or not? What I'm getting from your post is that you are using a splitter, which is a big no-no.

Did you reset the modem when you plugged it in directly? If you dont reset the modem it wont connect to the xbox360 or the xbox. I made that mistake too.

Going back to the Play-and-Charge discussion, if I may...

I bought it when I bought my 360 a few weeks ago. For the first bit, I just used the normal batteries that came with it, then switched to the rechargable pack after a few days. I charged it once on that first day, and I haven't had to charge it since. That was at least two weeks ago, with several hours of TDU put in every day. And the manual even says that it won't reach full capacity until after several recharges, so that's pretty impressive.

So if you had one that was dying after just a few minutes, there was definitely something wrong with it.

Isn't there some kind of pop-up on the screen that tells you the batteries are getting low, or is it just the flashing light on the controller itself?

Now, as for the overall "problems with the system" thing. I have only two games for the system, PGR3 and TDU. Both of them occasionally seem to "lost their spot" on the disc. You can hear the disc spin down, and then the dashboard will pop up saying the disc is unreadable. Assuming it doesn't lock up entirely (which it sometimes does), I can go right to the dashboard, hit "Play Game" and it starts up fine.. without having to eject the disc or anything.

Have any of you guys seen that? Disc flaw, or drive problem?

The mdoem is USB2.0 and the iMac has a 10/100/1000 ethernet (this internet stuff confuses me so). It also has built-in airport wireless and can share net connections over firewire too, but that's probably only Mac to Mac.

Just waiting for my student loan to roll through in about a week and I'll get the wireless and HDD at the same time.

An update of the state of my 360. The box to send it in came in today and I will be dropping it off at UPS on Monday because I don't think UPS is open during the weekends. Hopefully the repairing (or whatever they do) will go quickly and be done faster than what they said it would take. The box got here quicker than they said it would.

If your modem is anything like mine it will not work without being connected to a computer, get a router, this will solve that problem,my internet will not work without a computer present, I tried it even today(just to see if it would work connected to the router without the computer on) still nothing, I couldn't reach Xbox live until I turned on the computer and connected to the internet.

Same here, for the first replacement. They say 6 working days, but it got here in 3. The next one, though, took 5 days, so don't fully expect it to be as quick again... I think it all depends on how busy they are.

I have one of the consoles built November and it hasn't given me any trouble yet,I think most problems come from over usage, software or MS made mistakes with those systems, I always say "Never buy something made on a Monday or a Friday" lol.

...Mine was a late-November build as well, so I'm wondering if it was a part of a "good batch" that came from one of the first two factories?

Well this is my first 360 to send in, so hopefully I will not have to be sending another in.

Don't hold your breath. I've gotta call them and send in this replacement one in a few days. I may be updating my BBB complaint...

I'm crossing my fingers I don't have to go through this "bs" worse come to worse I will buy a newer console, they have solved the issues with the new one right?

I had only had mine for almost one and a half months. I bought mine on July 31st and its just now been a month and a half since then.

Not to be a negative nelly or to get extremely off-topic, but how do you all think Sony will do with their launch PS3s? Are they going to be as problematic as the 360 given how rushed the production has been?

...Just to make an interesting conversation, thats all...

I'm sure the PS3s will have more than their fair share of launch problems also. The PS2 has its share of problems with launch console and I see that carrying over to PS3. The only company I would have faith in with a launch console is Nintendo. I say that because the only Nintendo system I have ever had a problem with is the NES; they are known to have problems after all these years of being playing and part of that problem is the materials with which they were built with.

I do not think the 360 problems are as widespread as it seems here on GTP. I have talked to four to five of my friends who have 360s and none of them have had any problems with their 360s at all, though I may be completely wrong on this point.

I have never had a problems with any consoles so far (though I don't own a 360), I hope my PS3 will be as reliable as my PS2 has been.

No offence but this has nothing to do with problems with 360, I can't say for sure of anything (this thread could have been started multiple reasons)but I would assume this thread is to deal with 360 alone. Maybe you could start a new thread or search for one dealing with the question of if or when the PS3 will have problems.

My replacement 360 just came in today, not even two weeks after I sent my old one in. The box to ship the old one came quickly and the replacement one got back here quickly.

How do people know when their system is overheating? Someone on another forum said they had to give their 360 a break because it was overheating? :dunce:

When the 360 break, on the screen it pop a code of what is broken inside the hardware. It ease to know what exactly is defective inside, As people forget, most defective XBOX 360 was due to error in production & not from the actual design of the console. There's plenty of sensor inside the 360.

It's probably a software problem.
I have the same thing, you are probably right, it seems to happen when playing surtain games or when stressing the console: When bringing up the dash board while a game is loading and such.
