I know I had read something about both the console and the power brick. I think it was something along the lines of the color orange being displayed on the ring of light for the console and orange on the light on the brick. But the orange color on the brick would only mean overheating if the console was actually being used. I could very much be wrong on both of them, but I think I remember reading something about it on Xbox.com when I was trying to troubleshoot my console. And this reminds me, now that I have gotten my console back, I need to call support and get a warranty on my 360.

I only had mine crash in the past when I brought up the dash board on occasion.
It seems to crash when loading games, sometimes when you enter a new area and so on, you are lucky to only have the problem with the dashboard, this isn't a new problem, as with each console before loading problems have caused many a game and or game save to be lost as well, I can remember playing Super Nintendo games where you could not save, be at the last boss and the game not load lol.

I remember the super nintendo things, GOD that would make me angry, lol.

But as for my 360, really I only have a trouble if I'm in the middle of a game after a while and I try to bring up my dash. And generally, it didn't "freeze" all the time, it would just...."chug". But, I've sold it (last week) so I don't have it any more :( With my luck, the next one I pick up will break, lol.

If my system dies then I am giving my games away lol, I won't spend money on another system, same goes for PS3 if I buy it.

I have a warranty so if anything goes wrong its really no big deal. My only concern is about the hard drive. All my games are on there so do you get to keep your hard drive or are you screwed? I really need to get the software that allows you to save all the game data to the computer. That would also mean I would have to get a memory card. Probaly a great investment since we have 2 xbox360s in our house. It would be a way to back both of our systems up so we never have to worry about loosing data. Just like the shark port for the PS2. 👍

From the times I've had a problem with the console itself, they only want the console back, nothing else. The first time they replaced the console and power supply - the second time just the console. Unless there is something wrong with the actual Hard Drive, they won't touch it.

Did you send yours in for repair or did you just go back to the store you purchased the 360 and got a new one? My warranty allows me to just walk in and get a new one that day at the local store.

We just send ours away to Microsoft after a phone call. We do a test to see if it isn't the Hard Drive, then they say to sent it in to an address. I'm not too sure if it's just for "repairs", as they do completely replace the console (we've compared serial numbers and manufacturer dates - all different). It's like they can't be bothered to open up and fix the console, so they just give you a new one... Oh well, either way, their loss...

I've had mine for over a month (maybe around 2) and no problems so far! My mate got his about 2-3 weeks ago his was showing three red lights the same day he got it, it made me worry for my own but i remember GT's hassle with his and reading his thread about it i knew if took out the hard drive then put it back in it may work - and its been fine ever since!

I am surprised ours have not fried. We have played ours almost non stop since we got them over 2 months ago. I am really shocked our 360s lived this long with no problems.

I was thinking the same about mine, its hardly been off - and the best purchase has been the play and charge kit!!! (apart from the HD TV of course) :)

I agree with the play and charge kit. Even as much as I play my 360 I only have to plug it in maybe twice a week and it only plugs in for about an hour and I play while its plugged in. 👍
I need to buy Heather one of those. She is using rechargable batteries in her controller and they also last a very long time.
The most amazing part is that I have had these same 4 rechargable batteries for many many years.

You have to watch out with older rechargable batteries, they tend to be a problem as with any kind of battery, the same can be said for the play and charge kit once it starts to age, the way I look at things is: Unless you payed a large amount on rechargable batteries it's best to replace them, it's not really worth losing the controller or other electronics just because you didn't want spend money on new ones, not that I support the market trends of use and toss away, the world is one big trash heap because people keep using and using without realizing what they are doing to the enviroment, not much we can do about it anyway, it's like oil, it's hear to stay, not to mention millions would lose their means of income.

And the planet's (or at least GTPlanet's :sly: ) longest sentence goes to...

But really, if you have to plug in your charge kit twice a week, that's kinda dumb. I just buy a year supply of batteries for $30 at Costco, and you don't have to change them nearly as much.

Well it doesn't matter what you use so long as you 360 is going strong and you are playing.👍

Duck you really need to quit spamming about the play and charge kit every time someone mentions it. You already did that in this thread starting with post #45. We get the idea. You hate the play and charge kit ok we get it.
We love it and you dont. You go spend your money and waste your time swapping batteries while we stay sitting on our couch playing our 360. :sly:

Most often electronics do get repaired but they send you another (xbox360 in this case) that was previously repaired, they repair yours and when someone sends in theirs, they send your old repaired one to them, so on and so forth.

Which means the dates and serial numbers will be different but doesn't mean you get a brand new one.

Ahh, that makes sense now. 👍 I have always wondered why they don't send you a recently manufactured one. I thought it had something to do with getting rid of old stock they had...

HELP!!!!
First I want to say I have not had any problems with my 360 at all since I bought it 4 months ago. Well last night I tried for an hour to get into a ranked game in COD3. I finally get into a room then when the match starts everyone falls through the map and all we see is a room full of clouds. Everyone is saying "hey wtf is going on???" Shortly after that my 360 freezes. I restart it and try a ranked room again. Finally get into a room and I get disconnected. I said screw this and decided to play the single player. About 30 seconds after continuing with the story my 360 freezes again. At this point I am beyond frustrated with COD3 so I put in GOW. About 30 seconds after inserting GOW it freezes. I have NEVER had a single problem with GOW.

Now it gets worse. I restart again and again even just at the dash board and now the screen goes black after 30 seconds then I get 4 red flashing lights. From what I have heard this is real bad. I tried disconnecting the AV cable and I thought that helped but it didnt.

I have a warranty and should be able to get a replacement tonight but I was wondering what happens with my hard drive?? Do I loose all my game save data or do I keep my hard drive??? Should I get a memory card and try to back up some of my data some how with the data transfer kit???

Are MS replacing it themselves, or are the store you bought it from doing it? If MS is, then the same situation that happened to me in the very first post of this thread should happen. They got me to see if the console still froze if the Hard Drive was unattached. If it still does, then there is no need to replace the Hard Drive, so only the console is needed to replace. If the store you bought it from is replacing it, I'm not too sure. Surely they would let you keep your old one, as it would be quite unfair.

I bought it from Circuit City and I am pretty sure they will replace it. I shouldnt have to send it in. I better not have to send it in. I will know in a few hours when they open. I got lucky a couple times and was able to view the hard drive from the dashboard. So if I have to replace the hard drive then I will try to back it up somehow.

You should be able to keep your hard drive. When I sent mine in to Microsoft, they specifically said to keep your hard drive. Good luck in your journey for a new/replaced 360! 👍

Well it looks like I wont be able to just trade it in for a new one today. I need to contact the place where I got my warranty and they will send me a gift card once they recieve my 360. I will try to mess with the AV cable some more but this isnt looking good. I also am going to try and back up the hard drive tonight. :guilty:

Heather is trying a few things and said its 3 flashing lights not 4. I guess thats real bad news. Seems to be fine if no disk is inserted. It will play arcade games not anything else.

Three red flashing lights is bad. You definitely have a problem with your 360.
I will be right back. I am going to the bathroom so no one at work will see me crying. :guilty:
This sucks. It was perfectly fine until I tried for an hour straight to get into COD3 ranked room.

This reminds me when a GRAW patch was issued and everyone's 360s started acting up. :indiff:

Follow up on the 3 rings of death.
I tried to diagnose the problem with someone from 1-800-4myxbox and we determined it was pretty much screwed. So I just went to the store and bought another one. :) I also bought a transfer kit and memory card so I could transfer as much data from my old HD to the new HD. My warranty needed everything from the old 360 since they are giving me a full refund as a gift card. So unfortunately I couldnt transfer any of the maps from GRAW, tracks from PGR3, or any of the downloaded content that was over 55mb. I sure hope this doesnt mean I have to pay to DL all that all again. The good news was that I got a free Play and Charge Kit when I purchased the new 360. I gave that to Heather since I already had one for my 360. I was actually planning on getting her one for christmas but now I dont have to.

You won't have to pay to download that content again. There will be a log of you buying them on an MS server somewhere.
