thoughts on Barry Bonds breaking the home run record

I hate baseball... but it's all over the news. yay... The brainless fans in SF say he's a cheater, they'll still watch, and that they are glad he's "our" cheater.

Wow...

Anyway, I just find it really amusing how every sport has some scandal or issue except for Hockey.

Hockey has that problem with fighting... It's been a while since anything major happend but every so often there's a nasty fight with someone getting seriously injured (I think the last one was a sucker punch that broke a neck).

In any case, on the subject at hand... Barry Bonds.
He's a cheat.
Personally, my guess is that they are going to let him break the record and retire before they strip him of all honor, records, and respect.

Easier to let him finish up his fun and then say it counted for nothing than it is to say "this counts for nothing" while he is still in the league so he can just keep trying.

No what I mean? One scenerio leaves him the option to keep trying and the other leaves him no options or honor!

I just can't wait to see how it all goes down. 👍

Meaning he'll be in the book, but with a (*) meaning a disclaimer.
He cheated, so's I don't think he should be eligible. :ouch:

He'll probably end up like McGuire... only worse.

I know it's off topic but I have to stand up for Hockey... Fighting IS part of the game and they fight for real at least. None of this fighting with pads on like football or these pansies in Basketball which they can't even breath wrong on them and finally baseball where it's more like lets all jump in and create a pile for the hell of it. Not to mention the ones that do fight are the ones more dedicated for fighting and getting the team fired up. If you go on youtube, look up hockey fighting, and see a compilation of it you'll see a lot of bad fights but what noboy looks at is the span of when those fights happened. It could've been in a span of 5-10 YEARS. So yeah... fighting, weak argument.

Seconded.

Last I checked, fighting was part of boxing. Shooting a puck into a goal while on skates was part of hockey. Just because it runs so rampant and unchecked in hockey does not mean that it is "part of the game," nor does it mean that means shouldn't be take to prevent it.
Furthermore, you can't criticise a sport for a problem it has and when someone else brings up a very real problem with a sport you enjoy fob it off as a "weak argument."

You still haven't addressed Bertuzzi's sucker punch that resulted in Mr. Steve Moore's broken neck. Is that part of the game. I am a huge fan of hockey, but despise the fighting. I also wonder about a sport that pays people to fight when it is considered an infraction. According to the hockey rule book, fighting is an infraction and not allowed, yet the teams still pay a guy who can't put a puck in the net (which is the point of the game) to fight, knowing that someone could get seriously hurt as a result.

What Bertuzzi did was not fighting.

Bonds will break the record, and I'll die inside a little. Not only is he a cheat, he's a liar and a jackass. Nobody likes him outside San Francisco, and he's a taint on the game. Maybe I'll take those words back when I get my mid-30s growth spurt.

Don't worry, A-Rod (whom I also hate) will break this record by the time he's in his 40's...

And yes, I dislike him a bit, but at least he ain't a cheater, nor arrogant with the press.

There is the bright side to this. Bonds won't have the record for very long.

What really is the deal with A-Rod and you yankee fans anyway? The media makes it sound like you hate him...but what a "LET'S GO A-ROD" chant I heard during the game last night.

ME??!! a Yankee fan!!!???!!! Ohhh lord, have you stepped into a pile of **** .....

Seriously, I have no freaking clue about how fans treat A-Rod. I never watch the NY Junkie games.

LET'S GO METS BABY!!!!

HA HA...thats perfect. I'm no yankee fan but sorry you have to live under that umbrella.

Before we got the rockies, the Mets were my favorite team. I could still name the starting lineup from the 86 team.

Well, being in LA area, and having no local coverage for tonights game, AND being blocked out from ESPN coverage for SOME STUPID REASON, I cannot watch squat.

How's the Dodger vs. Giants game going?

On Barry Bonds, I was hoping that he got hit by a bus before he broke the record, but it's too late now. I'm just glad that he is unanimously hated by everyone.

And on Hockey, NHL is still around? The fighting to me is a turn off. Excuses I hear for the fighting is just as bad. Hockey actually might not be so bad without the fights, but until then, I don't really care.

I can't even think of a word to describe A-Rod. He's the most shallow human being on the face of the earth. I'm looking forward to the day when he is dethroned as Home Run King...and then marries Derek Jeter.

Hank Aaron's legacy is more than just his home run record, so to be totally honest I don't think it's that big of a deal. The fact of the matter is, everyone still respects Hank and nobody likes Bonds, so things haven't really changed.

My friend and I were wondering how much his Baseball cards go for now. I figure it's very little or very much and either way it's very funny.

What I'm wondering is, how much would that 756th home run baseball will go for. I don't think people are gonna pay crazy amounts for this one.

Now that it's finally blipping over maybe everyone will shut the buck up now about his steriod ass.

Wow, just saw the vid of the fans trying to get the ball. As lame as some of the recent releases like the PS3 and iPhone. How lame...

edit: Wow... how do you SF fans feel that ur asses couldn't even catch your own ball. A new yorker that flew in got it. OWNED. lol

I just got my authentic #25 San Francisco jersey in away colors a few days ago. Watching the record being broken in HD was totally epic.

The guy who caught it was wearing New York colors, I couldn't really tell.

Yep, a New York Mets fan :sly:

But did you guys see the interview they made on him after the game? He said "I don't care what anyone or you thinks"...I mean dude, you just broke the biggest record in baseball, be happy about it and don't start to argue with the press!

First, I gave up watching baseball when my dad gave up on the Giants.
McCovey and Mays were still playing at the time if that gives you a hint.

I personally believe that baseball is 10-15 minutes of excitement crammed into 3 hours, and then time is slowed down, and 3 hours seems like a coupla years!

That said, Barry Bonds is not Hank Aaron, and never will be. And Aaron was only there in a pre-recorded video. That tells me all I need to know about Barry Bonds, as Hank is like the black Will Rogers.
I'd love to see someone break the record legitimately while Aaron is still alive.
I bet then Hank will appear in person to congratulate the guy.
The only guy in baseball that could be an ass in the game and still be loved by the fans was Reggie Jackson.
