Collection of various Lotus shots - just because I'm a fanboy (Danny now you can't call me a fanboy because I just said I was). 100 of my favorite shots:

Man, what a fanboy.👎

The beautiful blue Spyker saves you from being a complete disappointment to me.

Just.

I demand to know where this car is right now:
old20elise20roadgoing13gz7.jpg

because I'm going to go and steal it.

I have an unnatural desire to own the GT1. Imagine a mkII based version? Yummy.

I have the press kit for the M250, man.... I would have mortgaged the cat to own one of those. I nearly did take out the huge loan to order one of the first MkII Elises... then I test drove one and wasn't too impressed by the 120hp K... ah, happy days.

Yes and the both Exige S's account for only 15% of the total value of cars in that one photo.

As far as some of the remaining GT1 cars - at least one was running in ALMS a few years ago for a private team, but faced very little success because of financial problems and a reliable powerplant.

Another one went up for auction on eBay actually this past May, not sure if the sale actually went through, but I seem to remember it being north of a quarter million US. Also try calling (772) 299-9788 for info, they can point you towards a GT1, if you've got roughly 300,000$US ;)

Or, you said theft was a viable option, it's in Florida right now. Good luck, and I expect a finder's fee. :D

Lord Exige.
I doth doff my cap to you for a most enthusiastic post. However, I find it most difficult to accept the Lotus of today as a true representation of what Sir Colin hath wrought. I have owned at various times, an Elan, Europa, and Esprit S, most decidedly English, and ingenious in their design and execution. Whilst today's Lotus is indeed most beautiful, and handles as though on rails, it hath lurking in it's engine bay, a motor from Japan! I am loathe to accept this vehicle as a true Lotus, in fact methinks it is a pretender to the throne. It is of the same heritage as the unfortunate Isuzu Impulse with suspension by Lotus.

Lest I remind you the Toyota powerplant was by far the lightest of the available powerplants, even the Rover which it was replacing. There simply wasn't a british alternative without going bespoke, which would run up the price by a significant amount.

The rest of the car remains most true to Colin's best wishes, there is no doubt about that.

The Toyota engine seems to work just fine for the car. I've never actually been able to drive an Elise but I have had the chance to ride in one at a local autocross. I believe it was plenty powerful enough to make me go..."woah" and get this "Holy Jesus" expression several times throughout the ride..

That's because you probably weren't aware of the release of the second generation Elise in Europe. Many disliked it over the perfeclty simple old generation. I, however, wasn't really into Lotus when I was that old, so I hadn't had the time to get used to the old design enough to like it over the new one.

They are both so close to driving perfection that it hardly bothers me at all.

Nice collection. I'm quite partial to the GT1, but if I ever needed an everyday Lotus, it would unquestionably be this one:

Provided it's an S, of course. I don't know if you've ever driven an Exige, but the standard version is a little underwhelming on the straights at somewhere like Silverstone - fantastic in the corners, but not so quick on the bits between them. It's great if you just listen to the noise that power unit makes at 8,500rpm right behind your head, but don't check the speedo too often. ;)

Leaving that behind (it was a bit windy anyway, so I can't judge all that accurately about the speed of the thing), it really is a wonderful track machine, and a great experience to drive.

No, the matte black car is not an Exige S, it is a normal Elise. It does however have an aftermarket Ronin/Katana supercharger and a mollion other goodies. The car is for sale, I do believe, but no listed price. I seem to remember hearing that the owner declined a 75,000$US offer.

The Exige, as a car that should theoretically outperform the Elise, didn't so such a great job of that at first. On longer tracks, of course you're going to feel slow on the straights, but that's been the case with almost any Lotus in recent history. That's also why you cannot buy a new NA Exige anymore, only 07 Exige S's, various Cup cars (up to 255hp), nothing official on 08 cars, but rumor is a "performance package" has higher rater ECU settings to pull out closer to 240hp from the box.

And anywho, you can still smile that when the cars that you passed in the turns are now flying by you on the straights, your wallet's still twice as thick as theirs, and your smile twice as wide.

Presumably you're aware that the Esprit had the gearbox out of the not entirely British Renault 21?

Now I have a family and am therefore inclined to question the relevance to me of 2-seaters, there are very few of them which really move me, and to which I would give serious consideration were my liquidity to significantly increase. The S2 Exige S is most definitely one of them.

Good Lord Overseer Guthrie,
You provide a fact which beith in no dispute. Methinks that my aversion to a Toyota powerplant in something as deeply rooted in British heritage as a Lotus, is my general dismay at the way the Japanese ultimately sterilize the automobile. I recently drove a Lexus LS, and while the car was able to achieve triple digit speeds in a blink of an eye, it was boring. The isolation from the driving experience was total. I recognize that the Lotus powerplant is an exceptional choice in this application, my objection was more against the Japanese car industry in general. So forgiveth me my whining, and be not harsh in thy admonition,
Your Chagrined Servant
Fangio

I clearly didn't look hard enough at that rear wing, of course it's not... The roof helped trick me too. ;)

Indeed - although this new 'performance package' is news to me - happy news, of course. :)

If anything had passed me on the straights, then yes, I suppose so... :P
Purely out of interest, what's your personal experience of Lotuses?

DE

I live in Canada, where the Elise was only approved for the 06 model year, and the Exige was only available as an 07 car, S trim only (I actually still haven't seen one on the street). Because of this, I haven't had an oppurtunity to familiarise myself with the Elise in first-person. I have met with an owner at a trackday that I was spectating, and we had lengthy discussions about the car and his experiences with driving it (completed Targa Newfoundland). He offered me a ride in it, but I didn't have a helmet, so I did not do much other than sit in it for 5 minutes (this is the Lotus Racing Green car, last two pictures of my set). I'd imagine that I know more about a couple owner's cars than themselves, purely through online information I've read over the years.

What is this:

1028.jpg

Is it just an alternative nosecose and lamp set for the Elise/Exige2?

That's the Cadena Racing Exige GT3 car running FIA GT3-class racing. Cadena picked up an Aston Martin and are running that now. There's a factory-sponsored team racing GT3 now with the Exige GT3s.

As for the previous page pictures, those black and white shots are taken byh a professional photographer - they don't really like giving out their work for free. That's all I got.

First 340R pictures so far. This one really surprised me because of the driver, puts size really into perspective.

edit - just noticed they put the driver's blood type next to his name on the Asian Lotus racers... Freaky.

Loox like the dutch have got their wheel shape all wrong.

Those'll never catch on

:irked:👍

Maaaad camber.

That shot is from an open-house at Hethel last weekend, which gave the community a lot of info on '08 cars. Employees were definitely not holding back info on 111 cars (Exige/Elise/211).

I suppose it would be for paramedics, if the driver needed a fusion quickly then they wouldn't have to go through the documents to find out what blood type he is, they just look at the top of the car. It's essentially quite a good idea.

Yeah I know, it wasn't a question. I brought it up with the driver of the 211 (Patrick O'Neill) and he said it also gives you something to think about before going out there. 👍
