i guess we can agree to disagree!! but them the rules as you may seen at daytona it is a yellow line and u get black flag when all four tire cross. the line is there i guess for no reason. beaides that whatever rules are set to that race are what need to be meet. and made clear is all that matters.

It varies from course to course, series to series, and even race to race. For example, in every race I've ever seen take place at the F1-spec Indy Road Course, the racing line extends well beyond the white line on the outside of the turn from the infield back on to the oval. In 2012 (but not 2013), F1 cars at Monza were permitted to go beyond the white line at the exit of the Ascari chicane.

When it comes to some of the fantasyland (to borrow a word from dabneyd :D) tracks in GT, the racing line is often way outside the white line -- the approach to the chicane at Trial Mountain, for example. All the rubber is laid down outside the line, and the AI take that line, too.

On street courses, sometimes the white line is simply left behind from whatever street normally occupies that space. This is clear at La Sarthe and others.

I don't mean to be argumentative, I just thought I'd give you a brief overview of some of the issues we've discussed throughout the history of SNAIL when trying to determine how to define track boundaries. It's been an occasionally heated -- and certainly thorough -- process, and @JLBowler has been well-immersed in it. Of course, like everything else in SNAIL, it's always up for discussion. Just try not to underestimate the time we've already spent thinking about it :)

Agree to disagree? Really? You found one example to back up a general statement. I'll give a couple specific examples to back up my years of watching it. Any race at Sonoma. Drivers are routinely allowed to cross the white or yellow lines at the edge of the track. Since you want to bring up an oval, how about most of the 1.5 mile ovals where drivers are allowed to drop below the white line in the tri-oval section of the track? How about Phoenix on the back stretch? I could keep going but the point is that it's handled on a track by track and series by series basis. It is most certainly not always a rule as you implied in your initial post.

fair enough so whats the defined ruling.

As others have stated, the multi-colored curbing is the track boundary when it is present and is considered to be part of the track. You must keep two tires on the track at all times. When there is no curbing present, a change in road surface represents the edge of the track. There are some exceptions to this but they will be addressed on an as needed basis or an as I have time to go through all the tracks and post pics basis.

GT6 has it's rules and track boundaries and S.N.A.I.L. has it's rules and track boundaries. You have to follow both of them. If the GT6 rule is more strict than the S.N.A.I.L. rule then the game will penalize you for something that is legal by S.N.A.I.L. standards. If the game allows something that is not allowed by S.N.A.I.L. rules then the stewards can penalize you for that.
It would be nice to turn off the in game penalties and just go by S.N.A.I.L. rules but the stewards have seen far too many abuses of the track boundaries even with the in game penalties on.
As Dragon said as I was typing. You have to adjust to what is allowed as a driver. I understand the desire to squeeze every last tenth out of a lap, but you have to do it within the rules set forth by both GT6 and S.N.A.I.L.

Both of these posts along with many others answered the question about what is legal in that section of Deep Forest. There were even pictures a few pages back.

Edit: Here are the pictures. Top photo is legal by S.N.A.I.L. and the bottom photo is no legal by S.N.A.I.L.

This is the piece of track I mentioned (going in the opposite direction):

So i'm interested in this to get better at racing. im a drifter so bare with me :)
@BayouSimDrifter,
Thanks for your interest!
We would love to have you in the league. Here's what you need to know and do in order to join:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the S.N.A.I.L. OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide.
Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You take the S.N.A.I.L. OLR and Racecraft Test

2. You run the Time Trial and submit your information.

3. @kcheeb PM's you with your assigned Division that we feel will give you the closest competition. kcheeb will add you to the drivers list.

4. The Race Director or Primary Host from the corresponding SNAIL Division will send you a PSN friend request. Sunday night you will need to sort the online lobbies by friends and join the lobby named 'snailracing.org Division_1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6' based off your placement from kcheeb. That lobby will be where you race Sunday.

5. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

The original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.

If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, please follow the instruction contained here.
To avoid duplication, the currently claimed combinations can be found here.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.

Welcome to S.N.A.I.L.

I believe it depends in what Division you are in

Settings
All league settings are default unless noted below:
Boost: Off
Penalty: Weak (and Effective for Free Run) in Divisions 2-5. (Penalties OFF for D1 only)

D1 runs with penalties off. Everyone else runs with them on.

On a personal note, why is D1 still running with penalties off. It was an experiment and I don't feel there is any advantage gained by the league to have one division race with different track boundaries than everyone else. In my mind, the experiment should be scrapped and everyone should race on the same track.

here is a post https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...arts-january-5th.235094/page-831#post-8286995

Here are the results of the D1 penalty settings vote:

D1 drivers who want to keep penalties on WEAK:
  1. JoeW / Ice_Warden

D1 drivers who want to turn penalties OFF:
  1. JazzNine / JazzVanWolfe
  2. dangerzone641
  3. fiestauk / SPEED14231234
  4. racefan78
  5. Worst_Driver / GTP_Worst_Driver
  6. OwensRacing
  7. hillracing

Not everyone in D1 voted, but enough voted to form a clear majority. Therefore, D1 penalties should be turned OFF starting tonight.

EDIT: I've updated the original post to reflect the new penalty setting for D1 (under 'Settings').

Maybe D1 could be a pilot program to see how it works with penalties off and the rest of the divisions could implement the same if it works well.
This sounds reasonable, but let's give it until the end of the March season until we consider changing the penalty setting in any other division. That should give us enough time to determine the success or failure of the change.

Division 4 Room Host Changed

Just want to let all of D4 and @ExoSphere64; that after speaking with Skills, I determined that his internet connection was better than mine and he will be the primary host. I'll continue to record the results and upload replays, as well as hosting if Skills can't make it.

Thanks 'beal!! Roster updated!
