◆ SNAIL [Pack] Racing - Boost Racing - Where the excitement never ends!

Last night was extremely tight, door-to-door racing - and some passing/events happened instantaneously (to the chagrin and displeasure of many). Those quickly developing incidents are what folks might call "Teachable Moments".

Many of us get into a situation where cars in front of us are moving all over, and presenting momentary "gaps" that we reactively steer into ......... only to have the gap filled by the time we get there. And then that leads to frustration, displeasure and embarrassment by the offender. I'm not justifying the moments that I, sadly, created ........ just reminding all of us the Reason for the Pack Racing.

It is the best teaching series in which I have had the pleasure of taking part. It would be so very beneficial if all the "newcomer Snails" would avail themselves of this Close Quarter racing. A very good introduction into the Snail way of racing.

Of course that requires all of us to remember that we really aren't there to win ....... but to participate and learn. I found it very beneficial to drop to the back (not always on purpose) and work my way back up through the pack. It really teaches us patience, planning and the "Thrill of Victory" when a pass is accomplished just the way you planned it.

So, tell your Buds about the Series - and let's all remember why we enjoy it.
No Event Winners, No Points, No Championships ....... just good natured enjoyment, giving each other a lot of slack, and always getting better.

That is my intent, anyway. Hope it is yours as well.

I finished 4th twice and had really solid/clean battles for position the last couple laps of both races I participated in. My apologies if I raced anybody un-SNAIL-like at any point in the evening. I will say this, and my intention is not to put down anybody so bare with me. The close quarters racing gets cleaner the further up the field you get. Like they say, the cream always rises to the top. The guys that finish up near the front are really good at "racing", but they're also fast drivers. Most of my passing was due to attrition as I couldn't pass anybody once I got toward the front and the boost is lessened.

One more thing... not a fan of the Clio. Sorry. Just... no.

Oh, I just remembered I saved both races.. :) I'll have to review...

The whole point of the exercise is to get "good enough" to mix it up with the "guys in front" and the only way to do that is do as you guys said above.....patience....well thought out passes that are more than fond wishes....and yes with the boost if you "screw the pooch" you will, in all likelyhood get more chances to screw up again...and again. The boost will NEVER take you by the D1 guys but it may allow you to race with them...and when you do...mind your manners....no one like a bull in the China Shop.

PS New guys who are still trying to get in here...post here so we can help you...its easier than PMing me.

1. send @Nail-27 a FR on your PS 3.
2. I will then send you an invite....accept it!
3. Room number is 1013119....

I got the invite and accepted it on PS 3, but I need an invite for the Snail Monday Night Club in GT6.

Trial Mountain - Reverse was a blast. I discovered a little while ago how great a rhythm it has. The high speed entry onto the main straight continues through a chicane leading up the mountain to quickly go back down through a winding path. I love that bit because it's downhill in reverse, which causes you to gain speed as you go heading into the hairpin. After that you have a short time to collect yourself for the second half, a very high speed section. An uphill, almost blind right into a tunnel then again a blind left with the mountain blocking your view past the apex until you're at it. A slow left to change things up and back on the gas heavy to the end of the lap. A nice collection of lefts and rights keeps you guessing who will have the best line going on the straight to do it all it all over again.

I say we keep Trial Mountain - Reverse around for a little while and change the car each week. I tested it earlier with the 86GT and it was still at least 75% throttle for a lap. Miata TC might be different and same with the Clio since the FWD requires a bit of throttle control.

It's not noryour decision to make... And I was just putting it out there. At least be a bit more detailed with your opinion lol

Tracks rotate every week. That's based of the whole idea of not getting any practice with the car/track. The car will rotate through the ones we already have lined up. The only one that stays week in and week out is the stock Miata. Once again, If the system ain't broke.... Don't fix it!

Yea, you're right my bad. We shouldn't keep a track around even if we like it a lot. Gotta keep the "no practice" mentality. That's also part of the reason you wanted to add another car right? That way each week (outside of the Eunos Roadster) we don't know what car we're gonna drive.

Just trying to help. I really like this series and would love to be part of the admin if possible.

Also, just noticing that the pictures for the cars aren't loading. When I right click and select view image it says there's an error.

Miata at Either London or Rome.....haven't been there yet..lets do courses we have not visited.

Lets do Miata and Toyoru next week

Here is a way to know what buttons do what on a Logitech G27 Steering Wheel when you set up the button configurations in GT6. Look at the attached photos

I don't think Autumn Ring Mini will be fun, it's really short and more of a karting track, but the rest look fun! :D
Autumn ring mini is a blast with the lower powered cars. The Clio would do great there. We raced the Eunos there a couple of times. It was fun.

Such a simple but good idea. I will be following suit soon. The only problem is I have a lot of racingsims on my PC that I regularly use with different configs for each. Truthfully, when racing, I don't have to look down at my wheel. Button pushes for GT6 are all in my fast fading memory.
