Who's doing scores for D7?
Who's doing scores for D7?
For now, put them in the open replays d8 folder. We'll figure out what's going on later this week.Same error as last week when I try to upload the replays?? It says "Upload failure. Division 8 is not writable"?
@Dragonwhisky, @zer05ive Where would you like the D8 Replays?
For now, put them in the open replays d8 folder. We'll figure out what's going on later this week.
1. Bowler's blood pressure will go thru the roof
2. Two divisions worth of racers won't get scored
3. This thread will receive nearly one full page of ranting about practice rooms, followed by another full page containing pictures of bacon.
Love that last picture a roof full of racing tires lolA few highlights from VIR, most of these shots are from the middle to upper groups. I was in the Novice (Green for PCA Zone 2) group. The Blue and Green groups must have instructors in cars until cleared for solo driving. SNAILs can think of the classes as: D1 = Black, D2/3 = Red, D4/5 = White, D5/6 = Blue, D7/8 = Green.
Passing is 'wave by' only, this is not racing. It is... fast, exciting, and an absolute blast. I learned a lot, but there is so much more to learn.
NASCAR turn - White Group
Top of "Roller Coaster" - a little similar to the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca. Right at 50-60 mph, then a left as it drops away. This is followed by another drop in elevation to Hogspen, a double-right with a drop/bump between the rights that became slippery and 'dramatic' in the Saturday rain. Not sure what group, probably White.
Leaving Hogspen, entering front straight - White Group
Same spot (from walkway on top of my garage bay) - Red Group
Although this was a Porsche Club of America (PCA) event, you are not restricted to using only Porsche cars. The local BMW (Bimmers) are well represented with a variety of M3 cars, from stealthy ones, to flat out racers. Maybe 10-15 BMWs, 5-6 Corvettes, 1 Subaru WRX STi, 2 Minis, and 1 Lotus. There was a used Ariel Atom (Race version) for sale, and a fella showed up in one of those Eye-Talian Red cars, but the last two didn't go on track.
Paddock shots:
The black Z06 kept parking and moving against a black background. Never got a good shot of it, but it was VERY pretty. Here is a nice gray one.
Pretty combo/colors
I can't say no to a Lotus
I tend to like the older Porsches better.
914's did not fare well. The one in my class scared the driver on the first full speed lap with some apparently exciting lift off oversteer-ish moments that surprised the driver (but not the instructor) and he pulled off the track. Left after first session. Even the experienced guys in 914s had issues. This car went off and hit a tire wall later in the morning. (Minor front quarter panel damage, driver side).
The Martini theme cars shared a garage. Pretty!
More Porsche
Uh... I'm not sure that roof spoiler is gonna add to your top speed, buddy...
My "newbie perspective" would have only changed one part of the Blue/Green Dynamic. I would have liked to have seen a session over the 3 days - maybe on Sunday - where we were roughly classed by our theoretical PP. Having some of the actually decent driver Cayman S or R guys and GT Cup Cars screaming up to me in tight quarters disrupted me, and some of the 944s. The Really BIG boys could play in their sandbox and likely need far fewer overtakes (though I know that's also a learning point and a goal), it would have been nice to have had 1-2 sessions that were speed grouped.

In light of recent connection issues and other network problems, I want everyone to read this post. It outlines how we expect hosts and drivers to handle lag and other connection issues including invisible drivers.
Hehe @Handlebar , I'm so glad you'd had so much fun, a blast your pics showing some track/paddock action, I personally love the Lotus Elise pic, only miss the sound of it , marvelous car, and last but not least: Handlebar, THE LUCKY ONEA few highlights from VIR, most of these shots are from the middle to upper groups. FWIW.. in D2 last night we were having a few people who were not seeing each other initially. The solution we finally landed on was for those who were not seen by the others, rather than leave the room entirely, just leave the track and un-sign up from the event. Then renter the event and track. It seemed to work well, similar to fixing the "wrong car" defect. Just something to try next week first instead of remaking the room or leaving and rejoining a bunch of times.

Did you happen to have a GoPro or something similar or your sessions?
Not until I install my racing seats/harness. I will be doing that shortly. As we climbed through the "slightly bumpy if you are exactly on line, and heaven help you if you aren't" Esses going uphill, the car itself was firmly planted, almost running on rails as long as I did my part - but my instructor and I were bouncing around in stock seats like it was kids playing on a sofa. He suggested I go to the racing seats in the interest of safety.
A guy in the garage told me if I went with a harness, that I should get a HANS device - in a harness, the only thing that can move quickly is your head, and I like minimizing the chance of spinal injuries.
Once I have the harness bar in, then I'm going GoPro. I used "Harry's Lap Timer" but it was hard to tell if I'd blown a sector or if that was the sector with 3 GT3 wave-bys, or the many Cayman R or 911 Turbo train had come up. The GoPro will let me see which sectors or lines to work on - just like our replays. RaceRender ends up with a rather familiar view...
