Maybe we just need to understand why we are trying something new and different.

Care to do the honors?

It's not new at all... If you finish first on the 1st race , you start last on the 2nd.

Actually, it's the opposite of that. With this proposed change, the field would simply be "bunched back up" for the second race. Whoever finished first in the first race of each round would start at the front of the grid in the second race. Therefore whoever, finished last in the first race would start last in the second race.

Perhaps this is too short of notice to try this tonight, but I figured it was only practice so why not? In a nutshell, we're have always and will likely always see the majority of incidents of poor racecraft and overly-aggressive driving in the "Reverse Grid" races. This proposed change would server the purpose of trying to alleviate some of those issues.

If you're one of the faster drivers in the field, isn't one of the challenges proving you can start at the back and still win without leaving chaos in your wake?

So if next start position is based on last race, then would this change reward clean racing, or would this reward someone who would just do what it takes to get ahead... Philosophically, of course.

Reward the "do anything" crew? Meh

Just logging on but here it goes.... We are trying a test to see if we can avoid the issues similar to what we have racing in the season events, the "catch the rabbit" situation. The goal is to keep people on the grid close to others with the same level of speed and preparedness. The current reverse grid does the opposite and possibly rewards poor racecraft. Occasionally "some" of the racers believing they need to dive into every corner and perform overly aggressive moves in order to get back on the podium.
Not everyone has the track manners, skill, and racecraft that hillracing and many others have.

This is just a test.

Wait? What? First you institute a system to purportedly help with some socialist scheme to balance prize distribution and now your changing something else that would partially negate the already inherent balancing of reverse grids?

I be one cornfused old fat man here.:confused::confused::grumpy:

Isn't this what Relegation and Promotion is for?

Game for a test, but sounds like some need to learn Racecraft.

(After 1 race, I ... Disagree... With new idea)

The reverse grids, often times, put faster drivers behind slower ones. In a lot of cases, the faster drivers will take greater risks (read marginal racecraft) to get back to the front.

We've tried to encourage drivers to use the Complaint Process to discourage drivers from this behaviour. It doesn't happen frequently enough for a number of different reasons.

In an effort to emphasize 'clean racing' in S.N.A.I.L. we're trying this out to see how it goes. And to also elicit some feedback for improving the racecraft of all drivers in S.N.A.I.L.

We take good racecraft seriously and want to make strides improving it 👍

Sounds like a good plan, kcheeb. Avoid accidents and all that. Racecraft.

I do not mind getting passed by a better driver.

I do mind getting screwed by a driver who takes a poor risk to be 'faster' by planting me, and then gets rewarded for this behavior by going ahead of me in the grid in the following race as well.

If we use some form of this, I suggest increased penalties for the first races in a combo, or something. Said my part, not going to beat it to death further.

I find some serious comedy in D2 guys out qualfying D1 guys. Might be time to promote some folks. Seriously what the hell.

Gonna get real here Z06fun and Luv2Coach both need promoted ASAP.

As well I'm not fond of being hit in the rear.

Randoms ruin practice night.

Do not like the lack of reverse grid.

Done griping.

Z06fun is already in D1, luv2coach is on his way up 👍

It's not griping, it's a S.N.A.I.L. discussion

Good to hear! They both flyin tonight. The room also has zero connection bars. Assuming that was killing me.

Making the second race start as the first one finished makes little to no sense to me. We might as well just have three 25 minute races if you're doing that.

I've had lots of fun trying to defend my high starting position in a race where I knew that faster drivers were behind me.

People with poor racecraft aren't going to learn to improve when they're driving out by themselves all the time because the field has already been put into order based on speed/skill.

…not to mention the deficit it puts the low finishers in with regards to their score…

I'd actually rather do 25 minute races!!! Mmmmm

As usual, I couldn't be at the practice tonight, but I know I would prefer to keep the reverse-grid races. I think it promotes close racing, and forces even someone who happens to be much faster at a particular combo to make clean passes. I like passing. Passing is what makes this league fun for me. Believe it or not, some of my favorite moments in the league were being passed. And I think most of D2 would agree that I don't make it easy ;)

Anyway, that's my vote. And if it comes to it, I also would prefer 3 longer races to 6 shorter ones if we actually did abandon the reverse-grid races.

Hey everyone, with practice starting in less an hour, I'd like to make one big request for tonight races.. Instead of setting the second race of each round as "Reverse Grid", please set it with "Based on Previous Results". After the races, please post your opinions on the change in settings. Based on the feedback, we may make this change official as early as this Sunday night (no guarantees though :)).

I know I wasn't at practice, but I can already see a flaw with this idea, if someone absolutely dominates and crushes everyone at the combo, they could easily do it again. Personally i've always liked the fact that if I did well in a race, that I could then try to fight my way back up through the field. Also if you mess up in the first race, you basically get another shot at winning the second race. Just my opinion.

After trying it all I can say is I like the idea less than I did before trying it. With the old system if someone messed up your first race you had a chance in the second race. In this one someone can ruin 2 races for you verses one. Also it gets more spread out this way. I give it 👎👎👎👎👎

That grid based on previous results was boring as hell. Who the heck came up with that idea? All 6 races should be reverse grid from now on.

Setting up a race where it's easier for everyone to get along…

That would come from Canada, wouldn't it?

;)
