Usually the Sat or even Sunday morning of this weekend (you get a message from kcheeb, "You are in D6 this week..." Or something like that. ;-)

Have we heard Zer0's ideas on the newly time unavailable drivers, what are the options, or what is the plan?

Tried a few laps in the two Vettes. The RM on Mediums is tolerably decent at first blush, not torturous. The '60 is... More challenging.

I know it has been an eventful week in SNAIL and I don't mean to seem pushy, but are we close to hearing about division placements for the next season?

I know stewards are very busy sorting everything out. Just wondering if I missed a post or if we are still waiting.

Promotion and relegation will be announced, at the earliest, Saturday Evening, as in past seasons :)

I have a proposal that I think has merit and I believe most Snails would agree to but really don't know for sure:

I would like racers to mute mics during the race with one exception: to notify a lagger of his condition. I think that is a legitimate exception and will actually help other racers like a spotter. Most other talk is not really helpful for everyone racing and can be an unwanted distraction.

Does anyone agree?

I think this is a great idea. Chit chat and/or texting while a race is in progress (the results have not been posted yet) can be very distracting. I know I've been battling for 6th, 7th or 8th place and had it happen to me and I've likely done it to others too :( It's really just about being polite and letting everyone race under the same conditions.

There are definitely times when it's useful to use your mic during a race. Letting someone know they're lagging being a prime example.

A pertinent question has been building up in my mind.... What's gonna happen when the PS4 comes out? A lot of people will be able to buy it on the first weeks but some other people will probably have to wait for a christmas or a birthday. How will that affect our BEAUTIFUL community and our GORGEOUS competition?

It's difficult to say with certainty how the PS4 and GT6 will affect S.N.A.I.L.

I'd be inclined to say as long as the majority of the membership is racing GT5 on the PS3, that's how S.N.A.I.L. will be racing. If GT6 comes out on the PS3, we may move to that game at some point. I 'think' the move to the PS4 would be a longer transition to full on S.N.A.I.L. Sunday night league action. We could even phase GT6 and the PS4 in with weeknights events transitioning when S.N.A.I.L.s demand it.

It's really wait and see what shape everything takes at this point.

Since we're in dream mode right now, how cool would it be if you could race GT6 on the PS3 and PS4 :cool:

May I raise the issue of "Honking the Horn" when close behind another driver? Since when did they start putting horns on race cars?

Is the horn telling me to get out of the way? Is it an attempt at intimidation?

In the real world of racing, which we are trying to duplicate I think, when the drivers returned to the pits ........ said horn would be placed on/in the honking driver's person. And would be thus motivated to focus more on passing than the stupid honking.

May I suggest the "Honkers" take the same suggestion? I know most of you are better drivers than I am - you will get around me, eventually. So, cut the horn wires, if you will.

I have used the horn before, but only to alert other drivers of my position. I rarely do it anymore, but I thought it was a good thing. Until I realized that using your horn is the equivalent of insulting ones mother...

Tried to get into practice last night...but was incompatible each time I tried to join Goat's room. :(

Hopefully Sunday will go better....off to break in an RM vette! ....though maybe I already have one.

This is really off topic, but since wolfs post about plays got me thinking. If any of you guys have a local theater and they are ever supposed to perform a play called "August: Osage County" go see it. Its a great hilarious play, But don't bring your kids, it's really dark, really dark

Question about Indy-Road. Towards the end of the lap when entering back on the main speedway if you go above the white line with the small rumble strip on it is that considered a penalty? It does not ghost me. Just wondering if I should try to stay inside this line on Sunday.

No, but the stewards are still the correct place to go with complaints -- but really, most of the time the best approach is to PM the other driver, and discuss it in private.

In any case, airing grievances on the thread is frowned upon.

Great question, Jester, easy answer...

Nope! White lines, unless there are some rumble strips to extend the boundaries wider.

Even then, it may be frowned upon, but it is (currently) accepted.

Staying on the track and driving clean is still unpenalized, even encouraged!

I had this hair brain idea. Sell my Evo and buy one. Maybe mount it a trailer. Go to festivals and charge people to use it. Eventually make enough to buy two. Then I could use them myself too. LoL

But. I'm not selling the Evo nor would I spend 20k on a racing rig.

I saw it for class at lsu at our theater, and let me say that I would not suggest this as a a school play unless you want all the parents to get mad lol. The problem with having a theater in your town is generally with the people who run it. They want to do deep philosophical plays that they to see rather than doing entertaining plays that the audience want to see. Hence why theater is so irrelevant in 'Murica

That is the ruling from when we have run there in the past, yes. Anything beyond the line/rumble strip is off track, and more than 2 wheels off is a penalty.

I kinda disagree with this one though. The only recent real-life race I saw there used the area beyond that line constantly. I'm not really sure what the line is for. Not that I'm suggesting changing the rule right now. I think we've had enough drama for one week, and people have already been practicing based on the current rule. A topic for a quieter day, perhaps :dopey:

The last time we raced on this track, with the italia's, that was the word on the street and i believe it's still that way... don't cross that line but is up to kcheeb or zero to give you a final word about that.

I would agree if one of the plays I had to see wasn't 3 people in a room talking with someone standing in a corner acting like a statue. Don't remember the name of that one but that's when our professor told us why crappy plays like that are made

This has definitely helped my get out of situations that could end up ruining someone else's race. For example there was a seven week period that my Internet would suddenly start to bug out. If it weren't for people that are behind me that spoke up on the mic saying that it looked like I was driving like I was severely drunk or something like that, I could've possibly ruined someone else's night. There have been times when this happens on my favorite combo and I have to pull of to the side and leave before I cause anymore problems.

So this definitely does help save people's nights.

Good point.

Going outside the white line in the oval section of the last turn may get you a 1 point penalty. Generally, always use the white lines as track borders except where there are kerbs.

Cutting the chicanes or "shorting" the track at any point is strictly prohibited on all parts of the track, including the asphalt-areas in behind out-of track-lines. Track specific boundaries will be clarified for certain tracks if it is not generally obvious.


15: Track Boundaries:

Two wheels (except when airborne, where the vertical projection of the car onto the track counts) must be in contact with the track/circuit which includes the rumble strips and footpaths, but not grassed areas.

As I mentioned yesterday, the official league start time will be 9:30pm Eastern / 6:30pm Pacific for the March season. However, I realize that while the vast majority of us want to race earlier, it's not possible for all of us (including me) to do that. Therefore, I'd like to propose a way for those of us who share my predicament to still get the most out of Sunday night.

The idea is to have those of us who can't start earlier simply jump online at the usual 10pm Eastern / 7pm Pacific time. At that point, our division mates will be wrapping up Round 1 of the lineup. Therefore, we'll just join them when they start qualifying for Round 2 and continue the night as normal until Round 3 is complete. After that, all of us "usual-time joiners" will congregate into one lounge so that we can race Round 1 with each other, regardless of which division we're in. There probably won't be enough of us to fill the grid on our own, so I'd like to solicit help from others. Please sign up below if either category applies to you:

Drivers who are not able to start at the earlier time, but still want to race Round 1 to complete the lineup:

On the other hand, I'd like to figure out a way for those who are racing Round 1 for the first time that night to still be able to get points for the races if they so desire. We'll probably need someone with strong math-fu (Bowler?) to figure out a formula that properly awards points based not only on the number of drivers on the grid, but also which division each of the drivers on the grid are in. For example, if I'm a D3 driver, beating someone in D1 should be worth more points in the formula than beating someone in D5 (I know that's not going to happen, but it's just for example).

At the end of the day, this idea would still allow every single SNAIL an opportunity to race all three rounds on the lineup with our fellow SNAILs. I know this solution isn't 100% perfect, but I'm willing to accept things not being exactly perfect for me if it makes it easier for the majority of us to enjoy the league and if it helps make the league and it helps up fill of the grids in each division. Hopefully, there are a few of you in my situation who feel the same way. If not, no worries. I'll just race Round 2 and Round 3 and finish the night at the same time as everyone else. Two out or three ain't bad. :)
