Picture Post for Division 4 - May, 19th 2013

Had a lot of fun with the camera this week enjoy!

The Soltice @ Laguna

The Merc @ Monza

The Skyline @ Spa

Congrats to Sandblazter!

And I should have added, Joe I do understand where you're coming from and appreciate it. It's been a good discussion and hopefully no one feels it was more than a discussion 👍

The consequences of a mistake, a poor decision or lack of control in corner 1 is much greater as the cars are much closer together. As the race progresses, there's more room and the consequences are smaller, usually between two drivers.

I think by continually stressing the importance of clean racing in every corner, but especially corner one, we can minimize incidents. Any lounges I'm in, that's the number one thing I talk about as the timer winds down. I hope it helps remind everyone.

For what it's worth, I've just been putting some numbers in for a couple of divisions and have gone back to the start of each race and have not found one, corner one incident to report. I've seen a couple of good passes and couple of attempts where the driver realized it wasn't meant to be, but no door bashing, punting or otherwise unclean racing.

Granted this is an extremely small sample and not statistically significant, but I thought I'd share.

These changes affect the final standings and the prize winners.
zer05ive will be along soon to announce the prize winners.

Full final results can be found here.

Joe, are you sure this affects the prize winners? It appears iroquois' penalty would bring his adjusted point total down to 88.53, but that's still above Sandblazter's adjusted point total of 87.78. I'm about to update the results post right now and will post if I see anything different.

Well, we are talking about SNAIL, so any issues will be few and far.

Your math makes my head hurt. That's why I leave it up to you.

LOL, gotcha. ;)

My confusion was from your line at the bottom of your stewards report that says, "These changes affect the final standings and the prize winners." However, I think that may just be your default message. Any chance you can put the word "may" in there? That would allow you to just leave that portion of your message the same each week regardless of whether or not any changes in standings and prize winners actually occur. :)

Thanks to all the stewards who reviewed this week's incidents! The results post has been updated with your findings.

Prize winners, you are free to make your selections!! :gtpflag:

How about instead of implementing a rule people just practice their cold tire skills and remember that a cold tire is a very surprising one.

Remember my post about slowing your roll? Read through that then listen to low rider and take it easy.

The practice room is officially open! Given that the new combos have not been posted and are not ready; we can combine into a single room and Shuffle! Sunday May 19 Results past please join with your best racecraft

24hr Nurb Update:

1/3rd done and the rain has finally stopped. Hope it stays away for the rest of the race. Pitting for Intermediates at this time. 50 laps completed, still with less than a 4 minute lead. Lap times have dropped below 9 minutes and should continue that decent if the weather holds clear and the track continues to dry. Currently at 64% and dropping rapidly. It's starting to get fun.

The new combos will be ran on June 2nd?

And I couldn't let a week go by without posting something new in the Data World

You can now view the complete S.N.A.I.L. Results Spreadsheet without having to open the it!

The document is published here as an HTML document, quicker to load and easier to view!

Hopefully everyone likes it 👍

I disagree 250% on the rule that you can't pass on the first corner. It's ridiculous. Makes absolute no sense to me and i'm really hoping it doesn't go thru

The GranStand Challenge points spreadsheet has been updated. And the field is starting to spread out :scared:

If you find an error or omission, please let me know!

GranStand Challenge Rules

Thanks for the update, cheeb!

I tried to add the thread penalties, but I'm apparently entering the data in the wrong place because it's not updating. Which row or column is the one for data entry?

Also, while I agree that it was wrong for esh to tease us with false hopes, do you really think he should be penalized for it? :sly:

I ran 49 laps in six hours and you only managed one more than me in 8 hours? Does the rain slow you down that much? I should be worried then since it just started for me.

It's Column G in the GranStandChallenge tab. Seems you got it right for esh ...

No, I don't think it's fair at all ;) That you penalize him and he tease us

Since you are late to the party, I felt the need to "select" a few key things for you to read.

...
The rule wouldn't 100% ban passing in the first corner,...if you can actually make the pass before turn in, then go for it. ....
If you think you can make a clean pass on Turn 1, go for it. But it better be found to be clean by the guy you passed, as well as the stewards.

I'm pretty sure I read that passing is actually allowed...if it can be done cleanly. If one of the 4 passing situations didn't happen, there's a good chance it's a dive/push/rub. The rule would simply bring greater awareness to the need for caution and OLR, and not actually changing things a great deal.

... hold your position in turn 1 and not try to improve it unless the following situations occur: 1) The driver directly in front of you is asleep on the start. 2) The driver directly in front of you runs off course with at least 2 wheels off the track. 3) Obvious race incidents that must be avoided. 4) If you are able to fully draft past someone without incident or disruption to the other driver(s) with a reasonable distance before approaching the first turn.

You can pass, but you better be more concerned with ensuring there is a clean start to the race...

So why is it allowed? Because it's exciting stuff, the crowd loves it and makes for great ratings. The good racing comes after turn 1.

Is that on the OCD?

$5 Mill or less, I believe.

Hope it is fun.
C'mon, Handlebar it's from the Premium Dealership. I don't pick those crappy, useless Standard cars. Peugeot 908 = $4 million...you can do it! Oh my gosh...it's an actual race car. what will we do...? race it...?

Can't wait to see the 1st turn carnage with this monster. No aids or tuning the differential. It's going to be fantasstic. Turn damage to heavy.

I already like it. Hopefully I'll be able to open that at work as well. The spreadsheet won't.

It's finally dry and my lap times have dropped into the 7:40s on racing hards. While wet I was lucky to get a 9:30 but usually running in the 10s. The lights are horrible in the dark with a full rainstorm coming down. I've got nine and a quarter hours in, just started lap 58. Will probably run these tires or fuel out, whichever goes first, and call it a night.

And get your popcorn ready.

Here is one more video, just because it was funny. I'm pretty sure he didn't have overlap on me. Luckily it was just a practice race.

For Prize B I choose the Peugeot 908 HDI FAP to run @ Spa. Oh Yea!

Thanks for making your Prize A and Prize B selections. I've copied and pasted your announcements onto the lineup post as a temporary measure while we wait for some cool pics of the new lineups.

Anybody wanna post a picture of the two new cars? :D
