There are certain exhaust sounds that me go all gushy and incoherent, that is one of them.

Others include (but not limited to) F1 3.0L V10s, Honda K-series engines, and AMG twin-turbo V8s.

@Mirado_7

I appreciate the info and all. However not having the ability to show you first hand kinda makes having this discussion difficult. You need to experience it to understand.

Rest assured my PC hardware is more then capable at handling what I give it. ;)

Even though I picked the RB Junior, after driving it more and more, I disliked it more and more. I think one inherent problem we have with the league is that the races are less competitive (and a larger gap from 1st to last) as you go higher in divisions. Meaning, you're more likely to have someone in D7 or D8 win 3+ races than you are in D1 or D2, which results in those lower divisions getting the prizes more often. I would also venture a guess that those in the higher divisions have been racing much less than those in the lower divisions. And because of this, are less likely to choose a car that is more difficult to handle. I would never have looked at the car @martin20az chose, but I really liked it.

Truthfully, I was relieved that I didn't get a prize again this week. It's stressful for someone like me who doesn't have a lot of GT experience. I don't think there is any way to get around this, other than to take some time to test out cars that might work at a variety of tracks, so that when you do win a prize, you can make a well educated decision.

It was a wonderful pick @KTR5 , thanks for having the courage to bring it out and take all the crap people chose to dish out over it. You don't need to make an educated guess, or consider 90 other drivers with your pick. Pick a car you want to drive and a track you want to drive it at. If it's not such a good idea for the rest of us, we'll fix it on Sunday.

I've noticed, over the last year or so, all the really fast guys go for, what they call, cars you have to steer with the throttle, and cast aspersions on those of us who prefer to use the steering wheel to steer, disguising their elitist attitudes with the whole "drive this if you want to get better" speil. What makes you faster guys think the slower guys (yes I mean me) want to be like you? What makes you think I'm not perfectly comfortable with my skill level as it is? Being comfortable with my skill level is one of the things that keeps me in SNAIL, where I can find others of like skills to have fun racing against. I couldn't care less if I beat them or not, as long as we have fun trying to.

While I can't argue with the set that uses GT and SNAIL to make themselves faster drivers, some of us are only here to have fun and aren't looking to massage our egos with our win count and lap times, nor are we aspiring to make a career out of a video game. Some of us actually already have careers, thank you very much. The elitist BS can be left at the door before you come in. Every car is a POS in someone's hands. Every car is a thing of beauty in someone' else's hands. Maybe not yours, maybe not mine. Either way I take offense at your attitude martin, not that you're likely to give a tin fart in a whirlwind what I think, but there it is.

I will thank you for the comments though martin. I was having a hard time getting revved up for another day at my career this morning and your comments and subsequent response woke me up.

Great pics bye the way!!!

I loved the mercedes. If you want to better your driving skills you need to learn to drive a car with your right foot. Cars that you can drive flat out and never have to counter steer are boring and take no skill. I picked the merc so people could have fun actually having to drive a car and not just drive a track.
I thought it was a great combo. Slidey(?) enough to keep you on edge but easily controllable. I'm surprised that it was voted off completely.

Good time for a quote from my favorite comedy show "Men at Work"...

"BOOM! The Truth Bomb"

I thought non-premiums were used in GT5 SNAIL? Isn't the Gather's Civic race car a Standard?
Remember the OCD cars? Online car dealer...certain standards would pop up every two weeks that could be chosen.

I will say that some of the behind the scenes round-table conversations about Prize Picks has really upped the level of Prize Choices lately. Kudos to those involved taking the initiative to give/take feedback about their prize choices.

It has made our combos a lot more difficult to vote off and a lot more fun to drive on Sunday.

Great job to those involved.

I personally think that the Red Bull was absolutely fantastic. I loved it.All that downforce and grip comes with a price as a half a second hesitation on a turn can cost you four or five positions. Breaking points, turning points and exit line have to be spot on to be sucessfull with that car and in D3 there was some fierce battles on those two races. I would love to race it at least once again and bathurst would be insane with it.

There are so many cars available to us in GT6 that we shouldn't have to "bring back" anything for a couple of years.

GT5 limited us to Premiums and OCD cars only. Now that we have every car at our fingertips why can't we please choose some other cool cars?
Couldn't agree more

It's not elitist to desire cars that mimmic real world driving characteristics. If you over drive a car by pushing it too hard into a corner, it's not gonna go where you point it. If you mash the pedal down with the wheel cocked 90 degrees its going to want to do donuts. The Merc forced you to respect the laws of physics and all it took was a lighter touch on the brake pedal and a few early shifts from 2nd to 3rd to keep the car planted.

I think if everyone spent a few weeks in that car they'd be better drivers in any car. Spend a few weeks driving the Redbull and you'll learn nothing except how to mash pedals like they are X and O buttons on a controller.

Apologies for the clumsy explanation of the Prize B and Prize C situation. I'll try to come up with a more concise way of wording it later.

@fizzer please go ahead and state your intentions on whether you would keep Prize B or steal Prize C if the results held up and you were officially names the Prize B winner.

I'm a little confused as I only skimmed through the last few pages, but if there's still a question, I'll keep prize B I guess.

Hey, new guy here

Quick question about weekday races: Are there ever time slots for racing during the daytime hours? I have some afternoons off and I was wondering if there are ever any races/groups to join during these times...

Eastern 11:00am - 4:00pm (GMT 3:00 - 8:00) I believe these times are also late afternoon/early evening in Europe, if my math is correct.

Well dragon then my words werernt ment for you. I have had many people contact me asking me what they need to do To be faster I'm simply trying to help them out. your happy with what you've got that's great. But many want to improve. Now I need to get back to my real career.

There are usually people practicing throughout the day between when the new combos are announced and race time. If you can't make the regular races, I think you'd be welcome in practice as long as you adhere to SNAIL standards.

Cars that you can drive flat out and never have to counter steer are boring and take no skill.

Martin, I reckon what really bugged me was the statement quoted above, specifically what's in bold. I have skills. They may not be the same as yours, but they are there. And you, as a member of a highly held and fairly exclusive group of players, saying that, implies a certain level of condescension and arrogance that I find highly distasteful and more than a little disappointing, from someone with your credentials. It does take skill to drive any car, no matter the grip level, to it's limits, or beyond, even if one set of skills doesn't favor a particular type. You, of all people, should recognize that and not belittle those that can.

But hey, you apparently weren't talking to me. Perhaps you were talking to the other 35 SNAILs who liked that Merc a bit less than they liked the other 2 combos.

P.S. You're drastically reducing the life span of your video card letting it run wild at 105 fps, I would suggest force capping it at 60.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Sorry, but I have to chime in here. I have done a lot of research into FPS and how it plays into performance on iRacing specifically, as well as have abused quite a number of video cards in bitcoin and litecoin mining.

First of all, capping your fps is not going to have a significant impact on the lifespan of your video card. Gaming is nowhere near as intensive as massive parallel computing on video cards, and I've had cards run for over 6 months at 100% utilization 24 hours a day with a core temp at 80C. And they still worked after that, but error rates became unacceptable for the GPU computing applications, they would still run games with only a tiny number of artifacts showing up in the rendering.

If you're concerned about lifespan, keep an eye on temps making sure they're below 75C for the majority of cards, but dont cap your video card at your monitor refresh rate as a preventative measure, which leads me on to the next topic.

There are multiple factors involved in FPS and refresh rate. First is what is the maximum refresh rate a human can actually discern? Most studies put this up around 150Hz-250Hz as the absolute maximum. However, as you go up, there are diminishing returns. The difference between 60hz and 120hz is much greater than 120Hz and 180Hz.

For all practical purposes, 120Hz is about all you need for the smoothest of possible representation of objects moving with continuity. Optimal 3D Tvs are 240Hz so they can represent 120Hz for each eye.

That's only part of the story though, the other is input lag. At 60Hz, the reaction of your car on screen can be up to .01666... seconds behind what it is in the game engine. Thats almost 17ms of input lag added in by refresh rate alone, not counting all the processing and pixel response time that adds to input lag. Over 40ms of input lag is considered detrimental to performance. At 120hz, you cut that overhead in half.

As for frame rate, you don't want V-sync on, and you don't want to cap at your refresh rate. Both can lead to dropped frames as your video card has no buffer built up and if it gets even a little behind you'll see problems.

One could write a book on all the info around refresh rate, frame rate, input lag, etc. These are just cliff notes. If you want to take my word for it, my recommendations are below. If not, all the info is out there to do the research yourself.

I will tell you that when I switched from a ~80ms input lag setup to a < 20ms input lag setup for iRacing, my times dropped by over a half second on nearly every track. Those milliseconds add up when your response to car reactions on the limit is just a little bit behind in every corner.

Monitor: 80Hz+ CRT or 120Hz LCD with tested and verified low-to-no input lag (10ms or less). CRTs have always had nearly instant pixel response, so they were preferred. Recently true 0 input lag LCDs have become available.

Graphics: Aim for FPS to average around 2X your refresh rate to ensure maximum smoothness. Having extra frames "in the bank" allows your video card to always present you with the most recent frame without screen tearing or lag-inducing V-sync.

Settings: No frame cap, no triple buffering, no V-sync. Monitor set to direct, game, or instant mode (aka no post-processing of video signal).

Wow JoeW. You managed to not only get us a visit from a mod, you got us one from one of THE Mods. Welcome @Terronium-12 and thanks for pulling that triple post into one and reducing our post padding efforts. ;)

He wasn't alone. Just browsing the last three pages, it happened 7 times. Schmiggz has one on this page that was combined as well. TMoMoney has a couple in the last two pages.

While we're on the topic, how do you quote multiple posts in one post? Is it as simple as "Reply" to one, then copy and paste the second?

If they're on the same page, you can hit the reply box on each post you want to quote and they will drop down into the text box. If they are on different pages, you can hit reply on the post you want to quote and it will drop down into the text box and they you will have to copy/paste if you want to add quotes from a different page.

I hope that made sense.

It's sometimes buggy but, enter the post edit mode, then click the reply button at each of the posts you want to quote. You can initiate the edit mode just by hitting the reply button on the first post you want to quote and then click the reply button on subsequent posts.

@LoganMichael I really like your comic strip!!!!

@Dragonwhisky when i click the link for replays, it just takes me to my google drive and all i can see is the results page. where do i go from there i can move them around no problem, i just cant find them.

Your right I shouldn't have said no skill. To push a car to its limits does take skill No matter what car. To the guys that want to improve their skill, learn to push a car that doesn't want to be pushed is all I was saying.
