As Saturday night is fast approaching,theres still not any posts on how many laps are going to be at Grand Valley with the BMW.

cmbeal317, have you figured out how many laps we're running? A few of us are going to practice tonight and would like to get our tire strategy figured out. Hopefully you can join us for practice.👍
 
Im just a crusader for the rotary and debunking the myths. its like saying GM, or Ford, Or Chrysler are always breaking down. Normally, its the loyalist of the opposing company that slanders the other two. when in fact, all three have great cars, and all three have crap cars. None are really any better then the other. Well, ok, Chrysler is finally getting their act together. but all the same...

Btw. I promised a couple of pics, so here ya go.
My 85 rx7 project. Started life as a 12a, upgraded to a 13btII. Man was that fast! But, now I got a rally racing bug in me, so out with the 13b and back in with the 12a so I can get inline with rally America regs.

Funny thing. The Audi gets better gas maleage at 80 (30mpg) the the jeep does at 45 (17mpg). Once I get around to finishing g the bushings on the jeep. We will be trading her up for probably another subie.

Edit: don't have pics. But I forgot to mention. Next week begins the project of my first bike. Its a 96 Honda cbr 600 f3 that's been race prepped. Nice shocks, built engine(well. So they say. I'm skeptical until I can prove it) full exhaust. Nice. Except.it was stopped in it's last race, no structural damage, but the fairings are trashed, and in the trash. And its been sitting for a few, so I gotta lotta work ahead of me to get her back up and running, as well as street legal.

Rally, how do you like the TT? I passed on a silver convertible with the baseball leather seats. It was super hot!, but I just didn't want a convertible. (Well.. that... and my wife wouldn't let me spend that much on a 2 seater) :)
 
Just wanted to let me know that Sunday I'll be involved in Mothers Day festivities :)

As such I will be unable to race Sunday night :(

In short, I wish I could afford my projects too! I've had the rx-7 for years, and for the past year and a half its been sitting there, slowly getting brought back to life. The bike was a steal though. race prepped, nice suspension and full exhaust. no lights though and it doesnt run without a jump. So I got it for 100 bucks. Starting to work on it next week. I'm guessing it needs a new battery and stator ring. wiring up some lights is childs play. After that a good tune up and that will be running, only real down side is that it was dropped. So there are no fairings to speak of. Street fighter it will become.
As for the Audi, we have a love hate relationship. Its got a the 225hp 18.l VAG turbo engine with the quattro awd system. this thing has grip like no other car I have driven, The engine is awesome too. 225hp now. Next step is to get VAG COM and flash the ECU, throw on a boost controller and turbo timer. Since the internals are all forged, this thing can take quite a bit of boost before the engine needs any internal strengthening. the stock turbo is good for about 18psi before loosing efficiency and reliability, so those small things done, then we will start to work on the supporting mods. intake, exhaust, suspension, etc. The hate part comes from the fact that we have put some miles down on it. So we are plaugued with maintenance stuff. Just replaced the rack, cause it was leaking from everywhere, as well as the tie rods, still gotta do the ball joints, all the bushings, motor and trans mounts. And full fluid swaps as well. But its worth it to me, that car is great. The hard top has 4 seats, but if your not 3 feet tall, your not going to fit. My daughter however is, and my dog fits back there too.
 
I am going to update the parity thread, but this Tuesday I'm going to try something new (again):

I'm going to center the PP range around 500 PP. Any street car (no RMs, TCs, or Tuners). So the PP range will be between 490 and 515. If you are a good driver, you probably only need a car that can get up to 500 or 505 PP. If you are like me, you might need more.
 
The real issue with the jeep has been, up until about a month ago, the lift. When my soon to be father in law put the two inch lift on it, he failed to have the bushing done as well. So after buying it off him, I found out it had the death wobble. started doing the bushings but couldnt finish. One of the bolts for the lower control arm is completely and utterly froze up in place, so its gonna take some def cutting wheel work to free up. And probably a few days down. as it is, I got enough of the bushings done that the wobble is gone. However. Im positive the ignition coil is going out, and on this model jeep, the last damn year of the Cherokee and the straight 6, they decided to make all six coils one pack, *fist shake*. Once the RX-7 is up and running and documented, the Jeep will be going under the knife, then sold off. No need for the gas guzzler, since any toys we have or are gonna get are light weight anyway. Although, my fiancee has been throwing around the idea of getting rid of the TT to get a Kia soul.:crazy::yuck::ouch::banghead: 🤬

Now, understand me. I've got no particular love for TTs. I just have always found them to be unattractive. They look like a Beetle that's tried to fit under something a bit too short.

That said…a Kia Soul? The only good thing about them is that they're cheap and have decent rear legroom. They make a TT look like a Rembrandt. And, seriously? They have a "+" and "!" model?

At least its not a honda, or the nissan cube. Her take on it is, payments are super low, insurance is going to be much cheaper than the TT, gas mileage will be the same, but it will be far more reliable. Which brings the monthly operating cost down as well. However, the hard part for her take is the lack of AWD. So I have been nudging her towards a WRX of some sort.
 
There are a couple of things I will never own. Number one on the list is a minivan. I own a Tahoe now and it will do all the things a minivan will do and I don't have to laugh at myself for driving it. Number two is any small car that bears more of a resembelence to a box than a car. With gas prices the way they are, I had to buy a small car a while back. I was disappointed with what was availiable becasue too many of them looked like a box. It came down to either a Mazda 3 or a Hyundai Elantra. I ended up with the Elantra becasue my daughter needs to be able to get in the back seat and be comfortable. I liked the looks of the Mazda over the Elantra but I must say, four years later, I'm very happy with my Elantra. It cruises down the freeway at 75-80 and gets just shy of 40 mpg.

Rally, resist the significant other on this one. Do not let her talk you into a Kia Soul. You would be trading your Soul for one that is much less cool.
 
The Kia Soul is one of the best designed compacts on the road right now. In my opinion of course. There's no shame in owning one.

That has some sort of understated class…in a strange way that only both a yuppie, a hippie, and a guy like me could appreciate.

The Kia doesn't have class. It thinks it has spunk, but I fail to see it.

I own a Honda of sorts: an Acura RSX Type S. Thing's a rock and still swallows the streets like it did 10 years and 150k ago.

There are a couple of things I will never own. Number one on the list is a minivan.

Regarding cars I largely agree. When my wife and I looked at new cars to replace our crapwagon…err…Outback, we started out looking at SUVs. Thankfully, my wife knew me well enough to never seriously ask me about minivans.

We ended up getting a Nissan Altima. Sure, there are a few million of them in the U.S. but I'll be durned that car is great.

Anyway, sparing the details. We realized that getting an SUV didn't make much sense, as we'll always have a pickup if we need to carry a load of stuff. Furthermore, if we need to haul the load in the Nissan, we can always strap something to the roof.

We couldn't be happier. Even if my wife came home tonight and told me we were expecting twins a minivan would never be an option for us. Of course, it wouldn't be an issue, because I'd probably run off into the hills screaming and crying, never to be heard from again.

All of my favorite cars came from the 80s I think. back when ford didnt have a majority stake in mazda, and Saab was Saab, land rovers where still off road vehicles, anything considered a sports car had RWD, fuel injection was a simple thing, computers didnt control much, and ABS was an option.
 
I'm realizing that more and more myself, Rally. Many of the best sports cars are from the 80s or early 90s. The rest are from countries with simpler laws and cars that can't be imported to the U.S. because of that *cough*TVR*cough*

I'm not offended by that, I'm the exception & not the rule - in so many ways. Secondly, stereotypes exist for a reason - because they are true in most cases. Most people don't like stereotypes because it's very general statement with no real individuality applied to a given person. Most people take offense to the stereotype, but there are many people who will take full advantage of a stereotype and even play off it, like me.

At the race track, when I would run in events that were not my normal venue or car class, I would play the (girls don't much about cars or racing) "Girl Card". This would give me an advantage in the paddock as well as on track. in the paddock, crew members would talk, or other drivers would say something about the car or their car that I can use against them because they just viewed me as one of the girls rather than one of the drivers. On track, no one would be near me during the practice or the qualifying session because they would under estimate me. If questioned about my on-track performance, I would downplay my ability and act like a stereotypical girl (play with & twirling my hair, intentionally not use the proper terms of racing, use my hands a lot when I would talk, use the word "thingie" often rather than name the object in question - like a character or persona) and by the time they realize I'm an actual driver (the Real Deal), it would be on track during the race and they are nothing more than a spec in my mirrors.

It was an option on my '03. If you ticked it you got the Rockford Fosgate stereo and sunroof. I didn't want either of those so no ABS for me.

As of 2010, ABS is required as standard equipment. No new cars can be sold without it.
Lets not forget, every American brand had a Turbo car as well. Oh. Wait. No. I don't think GM did. Chrysler had one crazy turbo car too.

Not sure about half of the S.N.A.I.L members have one, but I drive a 2010 Soul+ nearly everyday and love it. My dad bought it brand new in August of 2010 and we've put over 20000 miles on it since then. I see quite a few around and have talked to some other owners and they love them too. Best part is that it will be mine at some point.
