I still don't understand what's wrong with it. It's not particularly boxy, the proportions are reasonable, there's nothing too 'out there' about it. I don't know about class or spunk but it's a simple design and I think it works.

Though, I get very serious about analysis of car design. When people say a car is ugly I always make them defend that stance with actual arguments. I'm very touchy about these things and can't stand when people can't give a specific reason for their dislike of something.

It could have been a lot worse, my dad was considering a Scion Xb.
I don't particularly like the xB but I think they could have something with it if they kept the surfaces flat but didn't put them all at right angles. The original design was too static, and the new one is too "puffy" for lack of a better word.

What's wrong with the Honda Odyssey? I would totally get one if I had another kid.

I have two (kids), love the Odyssey for carpooling, boy scouts, shooting competitions (gun cart, long guns, cases, ammo, food, etc), long vacations, big loads of stuff at Lowe's or Home Depot.

Heck yes, I look forward to looking back at it, but it is a great tool for this suburban Dad type.

That whole "genre" of car simply does not appeal to me in terms of appearance or functionality. It looks like an SUV for someone who does not want to be called an SUV owner for fear of glares from the environmentally over-conscious green police.

I even find most SUVs to be kind of annoying, anymore. I really only find allure in the ones built on truck frames, as if I'm in an SUV I want it to be capable off road as well as on.

On the other hand, the Xb/Soul/etc. style, when minimized and made more car/hatchback-like begins to look better to my eye.

My qualm isnt the design. however, if cheap and box is what I was going for, I would chose the xb over the soul. Simply because there is far larger aftermarket support out there for the Xb, or rather xB. However, I have a three point system when Im looking at cars. First, and most important, my "ohhh and ahhhh" factor. I like something a little more rare and unique that has an interesting history to it. Hench a first gen rx-7, first gen saab 900, Karmann Crossfire, (yeah, sure, Chrysler, but they only badged it, even won first place at a car show for two door import!) Landy Discovery I, the best looking cougar post 60s, the 1988 xr7 with the HO 5.0 and those sweet alloy rims. The window shape of the tear drop rear passenger windows was the best styled off all the years, more sporty, less, granny mobile looking. and a slew of other cars i've owned. Every car I've had I bought because it sparked something in me when I looked at it, except one. I bought a GMC Seirra 1500 pickup as a work truck. Uhhg. I have almost a weird sick passion for cars. I don't know about you guys, but if I'm not chatting it up here or are online racing. Most of my free time is spent researching cars, wrenching on cars, watching youtube videos on racing, drifting, touge, and on and on. Only my daughter doesn't have to fight for my attention, and shes usually right there watching and wrenching with me.
Anyway, I look for t the spark. Then I look at performance. If there is no aftermarket presence, or even a good forum presence online, then I will probably pass. The I look at practicality. My rx-7, not practical. So I cant get another one. Audi's not so practical either. No room to be the family DD, and the jeep consumes far to much gas for the job. TT was my choice, but I had the subie then. Jeep wasnt quite my doing.

I have a second generation xB, the one based on the Rumion. I'm sorry, but it is much much better than the Soul. It is crazy roomy inside. If I could paint it, I'd paint it blue, like an old London police call box.

*waits for someone to get the reference*

I'm not going to call you Doctor.

I can't host tonight. I can't really get off of the couch; I feel like hell.

No problem, dabneyd. Hope you feel better soon. I won't be racing tonight either. I'm just completely exhausted - it's been a long week.

If anyone wants to host something, just throw up the room number and let everyone know what you have in mind. Or you can jump into one of the divisional lounges if you don't want your event open to the public.

I've got to run a few laps of Grand Valley Speedway to determine the number of laps for tomorrow nights M3 GTR Race, then I was thinking of moving to Monza for a track day. No race cars, though track only cars(Zonda R for example) will be allowed. Other than that no car restrictions. I'll have a room number up in a few.

M3 GTR Challenge Update
We will be running 40 Laps of Grand Valley Speedway tomorrow night.

I'm pretty sure Doctor Who wouldn't be caught dead driving a second generation xB, no offense.

Why is Eiger 8 laps? By my math 8 laps would have us a little under 10 minutes for the race time.

Are you factoring in the fact that the first lap is always significantly slower? Devious provided me with the lap numbers, and I know she's a firm believer that the race times should be 10 minutes at a minimum. Therefore, I don't think she would have provided a lap count that would result in a race under 10 minutes.

Hey guys is there any restrictions on who can join the M3 GTR race at grand valley tonight?

No restrictions at all (other than having the car). Even non-snails can join if they want, so tell anyone you know that might be interested! Just ask them to post here if they want to participate so that I can send them a friend request from the SNAIL_Division2 account.

cmbeal317,
I won't be able to participate in the race tonight because I have a lot of extended family in town. Sorry about that. :guilty:

Hey Barnes, just a tip from experience, don't know your budget, but as a heads up. If you stick with he wrx stuff, don't go with to much more power. The wrx drivetran is basically the same stock crap as the non Turbo stuff, so its weak. The 5 speed crapbox is like glass treat it nice. Same with the engine, honestly it can take some boost, my buddy had an still Turbo on his boosting 24psi for years, and he's the type that thinks he's a great driver, but is really rather hard and not so smooth. Anyway, stout, but don't hang out in the high rpm range for long, the stock engine bearing, as your finding out, don't like it so much. If your sticking with the wrx block, seriously spend the extra dough to get good connecting rods, bearings and crank. And install a very good oil cooling system. Then, I suggest getting he sti drivetrain (trans back). The sti trans and diffs are strong as hell. The rear dif alone can take upwards of 450hp. Just some words of experience to pass along.

Anyone around? I added a new addition to my rig and wanna do some rally shuffle. Took apart an old 6axis controller and mounted it up so I can use it as an ebrake. Pretty stoked to give it a try. I'll post a room number shortly.

Thanx rally wagon for the advice! As of now i got a decent amount of diposable income but i dont think its gonna be enough buy STI drivetrain componits :( . My plans were to jus replace rod bearings and maybe replace top end and.find out why the turbo is blowing oil everywere and get it back to factory and sell to make money on it to get an rx-8.. totally in LOVE with that car its amazing! !

Ahh. Right on. Then cheapo stock it back together and flip it. Have you owned a rotary before?

Ooohh yea thats how i make alot of my play money of flipping cars lol. No i have never owned one :( they have always eluded me. My father has owned 2 rx-8 and i have had a few opportunitys to take the wheel and that was all it took. I WILL have one lol
