Thanks for making your Prize selections!

The May 4th lineup has been posted!!
:gtpflag:

Thanks Handlebar! This is a huge help as always. Just out of curiosity, I noticed you changes the qualifying minutes of the BRZ combo from 6 to 7. Are you saying that all 6 lap races should have 7 minutes of qualifying? We usually only have 6 minutes of qualifying for 6 lap races. Not saying you're wrong, just wanted to clarify.

Too much run in time at Grand Valley. Six minutes leaves us about 20 seconds short of getting a third lap in IIRC.

You will be on the roster this week. You said you finished the registration and time trial on Saturday iirc, the cut off for last I believe is Friday night.

He was registered in time for this Sunday and was added to the main results sheet. Scorekeeper needed to add him to the weekly sheet.

The qualifying for the Toyota at Tokyo has yet to be determined. Need some lap times first. @Handlebar
Posted on Tuesday...a record?

New Avatar ....OK you young(ish) racers. A special prize (a car when they allow us to give them, from your birth year, up to 1 MIL) to the first person to name the following from my Avatar: Race (Series, date, year), Track, Corner, three drivers (and cars), winner, and what in the world does the leader have below his nose , and why was this painting important and where does it hang. You may not use your reference library. 24 hours...clock tickingl.

Cheers and check 6.

In the military a "Slow Hand Salute" is just that a... slow motion reverent salute to a fallen comrade.

"Slow hand salute for Ayrton." and I hope he still gives Alain nightmares...

I have added his name to the main sheet. If someone can let me know the finishing positions for CDNbossCDN I will update the sheet

@Nail-27 Kinda looks like an F1 race at Spa... Sometime in the 60's for sure, (Gotta love the outboard suspension back in the day) The two BRM cars in the back were driven by Graham Hill & Jackie Stewart... I think. Not sure who's driving the Yellow car though

Edit: The drivers were Chris Irwin & Mike Spence... That would mean that it's the 1967 season

Rome Race #1 : 3rd
Rome Race #2 : 1st
Grand Valley Race #1 : 4th (pole position)
Grand Valley Race #2: 7th
Indy Race #1: 3rd
Indy Race #2: 2nd

These are my results but I'm pretty sure jmann who was eliminated from the results finished ahead of me every time except when I won so I suppose all my placement moves up one spot. I'm not 100% on that though, I would have to load every replay to find out. Let me know if this is needed.

Spa correct. and yes the first two followers are BRMs.
Bonus question...what is the aluminum thingy on the top of the engine cover....

I too agree that the BRZ @ Grand Valley should have 7 minutes of qualifying. After the run in, you only get 2 laps. Another minute would give you an additional lap, which I think is worth the 1 minute extra.

Okay, cool. Seven minutes it is. However, is this just for the BRZ or should we adjust all 6 lap combos to 7 minutes of qualifying? The reason I ask is because it'd be preferable to know how many qualifying laps there should be just based on the number of laps in the race.

As soon as I get a confirmation that this looks right I will add it.

@Nail-27 I think I switched up the drivers... I edited my original post.

Also, that thing below the leaders nose is a scarf, or an early balaclava... Needed those suckers wrapped around ya with an open faced helmet! I do believe I was born at the wrong time in history, wish I could have seen this stuff first hand!

Nope and nope and nope but close...sorta, and there were 3 BRMS in the race.

The front one is a McLaren driven by Bruce McLaren. #22 in the back is a Ferrari driven by Chris Amon. #11 is Pedro Rodriguez and #14 is Piers Courage, both in BRMs. 1968.

I think it depends on the track and the lead in time required due to where you start on the track I relation to the start/finish line. It also depends on the exact lap time. It would be nice if it all fit but it looks like it's going to vary based on track and exact lap times.

If you want 3 qualifying laps, then yes. We were not done with 3 laps. I think there is a longer run up to the starting line, I think.

For 2 laps, you can probably go to 5 minutes.

Edit: Saw I had been ninja'd x several.

I raced with snow racing on Sunday.I enjoyed the competition and the courtesy on and off the track. The thing is I don't think I should have been racing with the league. Come to find out I have to qualify and place myselfwith some time trials and other qualifying events. If I can get some information on how and which things I need to dowould be great I would really like to continue racing in the league. Thank you and I will be watching for a reply
@Jason M,
Thanks for your interest!
Well I hope it is SNAIL you're interested in. I'm not sure who this snow racing is you speak of.
We would love to have you in the league. Here's what you need to know and do in order to join:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the S.N.A.I.L. OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide.
Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You take the S.N.A.I.L. OLR and Racecraft Test

2. You run the Time Trial and submit your information by 23:59 EST on Saturday night if you want to race this Sunday.

3. @JLBowler PM's you with your assigned Division that we feel will give you the closest competition. You will be added to the drivers list.

4. The Race Director or Primary Host from the corresponding SNAIL Division will send you a PSN friend request. Sunday night you will need to sort the online lobbies by friends and join the lobby named 'snailracing.org Division_(x) based off your Division placement from JLBowler. That lobby will be where you race Sunday.

5. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

The original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.

If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, please follow the instruction contained here.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.

Welcome to S.N.A.I.L.

Team S.N.A.I.L.
May 2014

The April season has come to a close and it is time again for the monthly SNAIL migration. The machine is already in motion but relies heavily on the race data from Sunday night. The division data specialists should make sure to have all of the information recorded as soon as possible if it has not been completed yet.

With our monthly division balancing to be completed at the end of the week, all of the divisions should look over the Team SNAIL duties to make sure that if one of the key players gets moved to a more appropriate division, we have trained replacements well before race time on Sunday night.

If you have never been a part of Team SNAIL but have given it a little thought, now is a great time to support your division and the League. Once the May driver list drops, we will be scrambling to get everyone into place so we can all enjoy the beginning of another epic month of racing!

For those wondering about qualifying session times;

When @Skills sends out the Sunday Divisional announcements the following quote is included,

Skills
4 or fewer Race Laps - 2 Qualifying Laps
5 or 6 Race Laps - 3 Qualifying Laps
7 or more Race Laps - 4 Qualifying Laps

This is the basis for the calculations that determine the length of the qualifying session and is shown in the director's doc in this area.
Quallaps.PNG

Round 1 is at the top and round 3 is at the bottom of that little section. 11 minutes, 660 seconds, which is the middle of our target of 10-12 minute races, is divided by a median lap time and provides the number of race laps, which is put in parenthesis beside the track header for each round. That number is stripped out for cells E2, 3 & 4. In Cells F2, 3 & 4 the Qualifying laps algorithm, as quoted above, is factored. Cells G2, 3 & 4 then apply this formula, =ROUND(((700/E2)*F2+30)/60) to determine how many minutes the qualifying session should be.

For instance, Worst_driver posted he ran 1:18.xxx at Eiger. Since he's an alien, I added 2 seconds to get a median lap time. So 660/80=8.25. As it would be rounded to 8 using normal rounding rules, 8 laps is what will be ran at Eiger. 8 race laps gets 4 qualifying laps, as per that above mentioned algorithm. 700 seconds is used because we tried it at 660 and the minutes returned was bringing us up short. The +30 is there to account for run up to the start/finish line time. In this case, if 80 seconds is the median lap time, 5.3 minutes is required to get in 4 laps at that speed. The formula fudges in a total of 70 more seconds (+30 and 40 more seconds over the total race time target of 660) for late starts and/or minor mistakes and in the case of next Sunday's Round 2, almost enough for another lap. I will have to admit, in this case, rounding takes almost all of that +30 run up time away. There should still be a bit over 40 seconds to spare however, to get in your 4 laps of qualifying.

For those who want something to shoot for, if your average lap time for those 4 laps goes even .001 over 1:22.500, you're probably not going to get your 4 laps.

So, who's got a time for the Toyota at Tokyo?
