Some weekends are better than others. Every now and again, one happens and reaches a top 5 list. The weekend I just had started, literally, with a bang. 74 bangs to be exact. That rifle I posted pics of a few pages back? My son and I took it to an indoor range in the city he lives and sent 40 pieces of lead through some color changing paper with it.

Target on top is mine, bottom his. Admittedly, the range was very limited, only 25 yards, and I had to adjust the back site a click to stop shooting low. After that one adjustment it was just down to fundamentals.

There may be some things as good in life but I can't say there are any better than hanging out with your boy and sharing a rifle you had as a boy, then firing his .45 1911.

Another 34 rounds of lead down range.

Hung out with the wife helping her with Christmas stuff for most of the rest of the weekend. Took a couple hours to hang out and practice the combos with some friends, ran a few TTs, cleaned the above mentioned rifle and after fiddling around with some SNAIL data, hit the rack at a reasonable hour on Sunday night.

Monday morning has been a perfect cap to this exceptional weekend. I don't know how long this custom has been practiced in the US Army but, for someone I helped out this morning, I was handed this;

Some folks may recognize what that is. For those that don't, it's been the custom for at least the last 8 years for commanding officers to have "Coins" made they will give to soldiers who went "above and beyond". They are not customarily given to "civilians". It's a very personal "Thank you".

Hi, i would like to join.

@TeamEdge702

Here's your official SNAIL Welcome Post!

Thanks for your interest!
Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the SNAIL OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide.
Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You take the SNAIL OLR and Racecraft Test

2. You run the Time Trial and submit your information by 23:59 EST on Saturday night if you want to race this Sunday.

3. @JLBowler PM's you with your assigned Division that we feel will give you the closest competition. You will be added to the drivers list.

4. SNAIL Administrators will reach out to you via a GT Planet conversation with further instructions on joining the SNAIL [Spec] Racing club. Sunday races are organized exclusively through the GT6 Community features within the game. To find your assigned room on Sunday please follow the steps below:
  1. Go to Community, from the GT6 My Home screen.
  2. Select Clubs
  3. Select SNAIL [Spec] Racing
  4. Select Club Lobby (on left) not Club Events
  5. Find your division room #, select it and join.
5. Place the following links (URLs) in the favorites (or bookmarks) in your web browser for quick reference. Please make every effort to read and understand the following links. Over the years a great deal of time and effort has gone into creating this league and we would like nothing more than to have you but we ask that you take the time and effort to do your homework. 99.9% of any question you may have about SNAIL can be found in the posts below.

6. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

Again, the original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.
If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, please follow the instruction contained here.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.
Welcome to SNAIL

We might need to compare notes on Scotch and targets...

I didn't do so well with son's .45. The front sight just blended in with the back sight so I couldn't easily get a good sight picture with it. We fired it at 10 yard targets and I really had to focus with my eyes and breathing to get a good shot with it. If there was one thing about getting old I could do without, losing my good, young, eyesight would probably be the thing I'd pick, at least for these kinds of endeavors anyway. :sly:

You know where to get to for some whisky, firearms and armchair philosophy to be the order of the day, and night.

I hear you.... the old eyes ain't what they used to be. A very small little dab of white or yellow paint on the sights help so they don't blend in too much.

My next firearm purchase will be a .45 1911. Not really that particular about model and year, but it will have to have that flourescent dot on the front site. After that is procured, a big bore revolver will be on the docket. Those 3 weapons + my machete + cricket bat = me ready for the zompacolypse. ;)

New combos will be picked once the all clear is given by the chief steward just like every other week. There isn't a rush on them to be chosen with the week off so there really isn't a hard deadline until we get to practice which may or may not take place on New Years Day. Based on past experience, the combos will be taken care of long before we get to that point.

Promotion, relegation, and division leveling will be done sometime over the course of the next two weeks probably leaning more toward being done closer to the start of the new season.

what's the schedule and when will we know the combos for next season?
Just to be curious :sly:

Going out on a limb here but I think it's safe to say the next season will start on the 4th of January. As far as new combo selections.... I'll let the Fish experts answer your question.

I'm sure @zer05ive is hard at work getting the new schedule squared away.👍

I tried to go to the range and use my progressive lenses in my new glasses and it was a disaster. I have a back up pair that are just for regular non-reading distance but I have to use when I go shooting.

Even with those my son and his young eyes can out-see me on most every sight and target...

Some weekends are better than others. Every now and again, one happens and reaches a top 5 list. The weekend I just had started, literally, with a bang. 74 bangs to be exact.

My holidays started with a different kind of bang... I decided to go for a drive around the back roads of my home town on Friday... Long story short; I now know that my car can break a cement block in two.

So long as it only references the first movie or the AniMatrix. The second 2 movies were.... flashy disappointments....
