@OwensRacing and I tried to do a series at the Nord. Owens actually had a pretty good turnout for a few times.

My concept for those interested was based on 'recycler method' . Use recently used SNAIL Cars and have a 2 lapper with fast tire ware on.

Example
  • - The Nissan Z - should be lovely there.
  • Ferrari 430 Scuderia
  • Even the Alpine with its great handling should be fun
  • Tuscan Speed 6
  • Mitsubishi FTO Super Car
@singlepaddy @turnupdaheat @FlipJ and all others
if enough interest is shown I can set up something for Friday night.

Man.. time flies when you are having fun: it has been more than year

Owens Series at the Nord
Take 2

I can't do Fridays (date night with the First Lady of the house), but I would definitely be up for this.

I've raced on the 'Ring with others and it was always a ton of fun. Lots of rubbing, yes, but with clean racers, it usually works out to pushing and shoving for position but with everyone keeping their noses clean.

And the Nissan Z is lovely everywhere, as is the Alpine. Those were inspired choices by whoever made them.

what day of the week can you make?

what day of the week can you make?

If I was to choose, Thursdays would be my pick, even if there's official SNAIL practice that day.

But if the majority of interested parties wants another, I can make it work.

Question: if a new series forms in a day where SNAIL already has something, say Mondays (Miata), would that be kosher? Since not everyone partakes in the other series, maybe we could overlap? What's the policy?

Competing against Official Thursday Practice is not very wise. I'm not sure but I don't think there is a specific policy preventing overlapping events @zer05ive correct me if I am wrong. But just out of camaraderie I would try to avoid it.

the Tuesday Series that runs TC Cars has a good pool of drivers. @GGGMotorsport
Would you consider doing an event with your TC Cars at the Ring ?

@euclid58 how many drivers are showing up for the Friday event?

Perhaps we can spark some more interest in the Nord by providing some awesome trivia:
A myth is created

No less a person than Rudolf Caracciola won the first car race on the new racetrack on 19 June 1927 in the compressor Mercedes. This marked the beginning of a very special relationship between the pilots and the originally 172 bends with such harmless names as Aremberg, Fuchsröhre or Kesselchen.

"Difficult to drive, easy to die” ...

... was how world champion Jochen Rindt assessed the incomparable challenge, and racing driving legend Jackie Stewart unintentionally gave the Ring its current name when he called it the “Green Hell”.

Almost every racing driver legend is inevitably linked with the old, 22.8-kilometre long Nürburgring. From Caracciola to Juan Manuel Fangio and Graf Berghe von Trips to Jim Clarke and Niki Lauda – all of them have made history as they chased best lap times on the Nordschleife and have contributed to the making of the legend. Above all Stefan Bellof, who in 1983 in a Porsche 956C hit the asphalt with the absolutely fastest lap time ever recorded, namely 6:11.13.

Grand Prix of Europe, 1 August 1954
The legend was thus long since born and established when in the 1970s the gap between the increasingly faster racing cars and the insufficient safety precautions at the Nordschleife widened more and more. As early as 1970 extensive conversion work was needed to continue to attract Formula 1 to the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. But Niki Lauda’s fire accident in 1976 meant the final curtain call on the Grüne Hölle as a Grand Prix circuit. Difficult years followed, in which the future of the racing Mecca in the Eifel was anything but secure.

But the Rhineland-Palatinate state, together with the ADAC (German Automobile Association), stood by the Nürburgring and made it possible to plan and built a modern, completely new Grand Prix circuit which was opened in 1984. The future of the entire Nürburgring was thus secured. Even without Grand Prix sport, the Grüne Hölle was able to establish itself as the most important test track for the automobile industry worldwide and as a popular destination for tourist trips. Combining the Nordschleife with the Grand Prix circuit, as is done during the popular ADAC 24-hour race, make the Nürburgring probably the best-known and above all the most emotional racetrack in the world. Nürburgring key points with the support of the Nürburgring Motorsport Academy.

Incredible that fastest recorded lap time is over 30+ years old:

The video does not show the actual fastest lap. but still exciting to see a fast lap time over 30 years old.
"Title is wrong ! The fastetest recorded Lap ever was driven by Stefan Bellof on the Porsch 9:56 with 6:11,13 secs (!) in May 1983 with HIS famous Porsche 956.007 !"

GGG's Touring Car Series is no more, so there is room on Tuesday nights now. I was thinking about making a new series as well but it takes a lot of work to do as one person. Need some help. I'll gladly help you get some ideas roling.

That lap is insane. I believe that will stand for a few more decades. Bellof knew the track insanely well, the car is like nothing anyone builds these days for safety reasons, it's the perfect storm of crazy.

Regarding organising a new series, I would be willing to help, obviously. I have a couple of non-SNAILs that would probably be interested as well.

I did a few laps this morning on the ring with the Nissan and it was excellent....

A Tuesday night meeting for this series would be more doable for me.

Yes tcs is closed but plans are already in place and approved for its replacement on Tuesdays

Looking for 2 people to qualify and race in the GTP Endurance Series. (1 for Spa and 1 for Nurburgring). Please PM me if you are interested. Currently in the 2012 Deltawing. SSR Motorsports needs endurance drivers.

The title was sort of wrong. It was the fastest lap recorded on video. The car was been driven by Derek Bell at the time and clearly you could see that when Jacky Ickx passed him he was going a hell of a lot faster.

For those I didn't already tell, the following year (1984) I was on holiday in Canada and went to Mosport for the Budweiser GT 1000 km and I did get to see these guys in action. This is Bellof but I'm not sure if it's the same car he set the Nordschleife record in:

Wolfsatz sorry for not replying sooner.. The Friday series has unfortunately lost a number of drivers for various reasons.. If it's going to continue we'll need more to sign up.. The next season was tentatively scheduled for this week, but that might get postponed.

Funny! Where did I get the idea that there was no races last sunday?
We had Victoria day here, late party with family and friends and got home around 2am:sly:

There isn't really a concrete policy, but overlapping events is something we try to avoid. We've had overlapping events in the past, but history has shown that it's generally not a good idea. It's hard enough to establish and maintain a quality series with staying power.. No point having our own events compete with each other and make it that much harder.
