I have an annoucement to make...

As some people on Division 2 already know, i've been experiencing some problems with my PS3 Slim, which turns itself off after a while. Yesterday it got way more worse and now it's not able to keep itself on for 5 minutes.

As the history of the problem says, i quite doubt it's overheating, simply because months back, when it all started, it turned itself off when i've just turned it on.

Basically it went like this:

Turn it on, runs GT6, before the intro movie, it turned itself off. Turn it on again, run the system check, runs GT6, play for hours. That was pretty much everyday. Recently it started to turn itself off more frequently untill it start to be on for one hour and now, 5 minutes.

I believe if it was overheating problem it wouldn't shut itself down right after being turned on and then stay on for hours after doing that.

tl;dr

My PS3 is down, i will be off SNAIL races for a not determined amount of time. Sadly. Wish i've found you guys earlier. :(

Sounds like the heat sensor is fried or something. I would suggest either taking it a repair shop or buy a used one for $100

My review of the 13 incidents on file this week is complete

Finally found some footage of my spin. The video starts less than 10 second before the spin. As an aside, this Miata is super fast.

Jeez just over brake turn 5? Doesn't look like you were to hot into the corner. Glad everyone was on their toes and you managed to get out of it without bent fenders.

Turn 3, and yea, just broke too much and added steering input. Bad combination and one I know not to do. I think I slightly overacted to the car outside me and didn't want to hit him. Watching that video shows I had plenty of room to slow more before turning in. Something to learn from.

That was fast... Dry clean the suit before the next race ;)

There wasn't much warning from the tires. It was brake straight line, add steering and spin all within 2 seconds. Suit needs to be cleaned anyways. Sweating your "you know what" off when it's 75, humid and you're in a race suit in a racecar. Must get a coolshirt before I race in Austin in August. 100+ and sunny...yikes.

Hey guys,

Looking to get back at it part time for now. Getting a new wheel setup within the next few weeks so I'd like to knock some rust off w the g27 before I officially retire it.

On a side note is there any info on GT Academy this year?

Thanks guys

@nmcp1 will be along with the updated process. As for GT Academy, I haven't heard anything, but I haven't been looking either. After how much change has happened the past year at Nissan, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't do much with it. Maybe they'll hold the time trials and only take 12 to the US version and then 1 to a world competition. I'm just guessing. Either way, it won't be like it used to be.

Looks like you are still a member of the club on PSN. Please start a conversation with myself, @zer05ive , @JLBowler and @CoachMK21 and we'll get you slotted back into a division.

I cant reveal information yet. Nissan has contacted me for a special event on Monday. GT Academy 2016 is coming i can assure you guys that. We are just waiting for GT Academy Global Inc. when all of this is starting.

One thing is for sure, there will be no more area contingent. Meaning no more asia leg, european leg, etc. It will be 1 whole world battling on who will be the next winner based on my understanding. But we will need to wait for their official announcement and see if this thing is true or they will revise this said rule.

If its going to be "world war" in my personal opinion i think best of the best gamers should be represented by each country. And hopefully previous winners could also take part in the world war academy competition happening really soon.

Well, based on this post, it looks like we'll know more on Monday.

@CoachMK21 Seems like they are simplifying this thing significantly, mmaybe in an effort to reign in the cost of putting this thing on?
Also the cost of giving all those rookies a seat for a race, or a season. They have a lot of young talent in the pool to choose from so scaling it back in order to work on that talent seems feasible to me.

Based on what I've heard from @GumballCGT (Nick M), Nic Hammann and Steve Doherty, there isn't much out there for them. They haven't had a race yet this year and it doesn't sound like they have much lined up. Nissan pretty much left them on the side of the road.

From that information, I'd say they simplified the process due to cost. Saving cost of putting the national and international contests and major savings from not having to find rides for all the new guys. They'll choose 1 person this year and toss him/her in a couple races and if they don't thrive right away, they'll get dumped too.

I've gotten the same impression.

Nissan has kinda failed to gevelop these guys into big league caliber drivers outside of their own programs. maybe the Academy aspirations as a program were a bit too high and the result is the seemingly glamorized glass ceiling many of them are stuck under?

Lets not forget edgar :) he didn't win GTa but he's making moves and doing things. Seem like winning GTa may be like winning idol and the like.

I think Gumball and the other fella were two of the last winners to even compete for Nissan in any major way. Even they were left hanging after the first season. It seems they focused on Ordonez and Mardenborough. But honestly, it's very ambitious to think that anyone winning this would be around for more than that.
To echo the sentiment, it is expensive. Putting on the production alone, for how many different regions? Yeesh. But then there is a team stand point. There are phases a team has to go through (4 actually) to become a solid running organization. A year is hardly enough time to really get into the swing of things. I imagine that takes a toll, constantly reworking the team and trying to juggle seat time for all of the winners. Having just one winner cycling as the amateur in le mans and FIA races is logistically, financially and administratively far easier.

Honestly, I always kind of figured this would happen. I mean, it seems a little too good to become a factory driver for Nissan just because you were faster than a bunch of gamers. The way Edgar (@Neovre) handled things was pretty close to perfect. He had the drive to find his own ride, his own sponsors and was able to successfully prove himself on the track. Had he won GTAcademy, I think he would have ended up like the rest of the poor guys that are looking for rides... Nissan picked the most marketable people they could, without making it looked staged. I'm not saying that the winners aren't talented, but there were guys that could handle a car much better than some of the guys that I saw make it to the final stages. Now with the simplification of GTAcademy, in my mind, it makes that route to the upper echelon of motorsports look damn near impossible. You're far better off using the time you would spend trying to get that .001 off your PB, and instead get out on a real track in a real race car and find real sponsors to try and fund some sort of ride to get yourself out there. The chances are much better when you put fate into your own hands folks.

Just my $0.02 though

I completely agree. 👍

Isn't that the reason many of us are here instead of being on the track... We can't exactly afford to field a car? For some people, sim racing is the only racing they can afford.

I don't think so, no.

I think many of us are here because it's simply an enjoyable hobby. I don't think sim racing is a financial fallback. It's just a different discipline which happens to be relatively inexpensive. Not so different from radio control, slot cars, pine wood derby etc... I know guys who spend many hours playing MLB on PS4 while the cost to play in a real amateur league is well within reach. Same game, different medium.
