Good evening Ladies and Gentlesnails. It's time for your penalty update for the week. Let's get these scores finalized so that we can find out the new combos.

Division 3:

  • Level 3 - 9 Points and three week probation


Division 4:

  • Level 2 - 4 points (halved from 8 for on-track concession)
  • Level 5 - Race DQ (8 points)
  • Total - 16 points and six week probation

Please note that some of these penalties did result in changes in final positions for the evening which can be seen in the official results.

In fact, this caused a shakeup in the final podium in Division 5 where there had previously been a tiebraker deciding the winner.


As a result of this, the prize winners have changed a bit.

Also, I would like to make a special mention for the most honest Snail award. This man not only called a penalty on himself, but he also caught himself going four wheels off of the track. He also did so while under probation and with the fear that he may lose his place in S.N.A.I.L. for the incidents. The stewards reviewed the incidents and found neither to be a penalty, and of course we would never kick such honest a man as TEX-36 from our group. Well done, Tex. You've shown us all what the true meaning of Snail is. . . I think. 👍

Also, thanks to all the stewards who've spent all day reviewing and deliberating the complaints that were filed. The value of what you guys do is immeasurable in making this a clean and enjoyable league each Sunday night.

That being said, I have been reviewing some race replays on my own and have found several incidents that I feel should have been filed as complaints. I will be PM'ing both of the drivers involved in each incident.

I cannot express how disheartening it is when victims of OLR rules violations or poor racecraft do not submit a complaint about it. In my opinion, drivers who fail to report these incidents are equally guilty of future incidents by the same driver.

It's no coincidence that drivers who quit S.N.A.I.L. because of alleged "dirty" driving are also drivers who have never submitted a complaint. We have created a highly-structured and organized way for all SNAILs to keep the racing in this league as clean as possible. If you don't use what we've created for your benefit, you've got nobody to blame but yourself.

I would just like to say I had a few incidents this weekend, and I am still learning the wheel. Everyone in my division is aware of this, but I should not be excluded from any penalties, if I committed something valid enough to be deemed a penalty. I ran into someone, around the one tight turn on rome, and remember, that he wrecked in the exact same spot, directly before I did. I do not know if that is penalty, as it was both user error. I am only stating this in the forum, and not via PM, and I am not submitting a complaint of any kind, just stating what I feel I had done wrong thus far. Thank you for having me.

I think sometimes people don't think it's worth it to protest and realize the other person made a mistake. Last week I got hit while in the lead lost a bunch of spaces but I don't think the driver meant it and was just racing hard. He apologized and that was good enough for me. I'm sure people could protest something I did in the last 2 weeks but I'm sure they realize anything I did wasn't intentional either. To me if the same person keeps doing it then I'll protest but a one time mistake doesn't make me want to make a fuss. Just my .02.

My beef is with those who rage-quit the league after only a few incidents and then basically label an entire group of 60+ drivers as "dirty" without ever taking the minute or so it takes to file a complaint.

That being said, I have seen several incidents in which drivers were clearly guilty of poor racecraft and there was nothing "unintentional" about it. For example, a driver would be a full car length behind another car going into a corner and would still try take the inside line and try to out-brake the driver in front. IMO, this is an intentional divebomb and there is absolutely no excuse not to file a complaint about it.

Some negative comments about my driving were made in the lounge this week, so I expected complaints, yet received none. I'm not trying to call anyone out, because I'm sure they had their reasons. But all other things being equal, it seems to me that if it's worth bringing up at the time, it's probably worth a complaint.

That said, I've never filed a complaint myself, even though I've considered it 2 or 3 times, so I guess I'm part of the problem too. When I look back at my reasoning, the honest truth is that the confrontation never seemed worth it. Either the outcome of the race wasn't affected, the offending driver apologized, the incident was rare and completely out of character or I just wasn't sure of my view of what happened (one can go crazy re-re-watching the replay trying to figure out exactly who had rights to the apex).

I guess I don't have anything constructive to add, but I think this is a discussion worth having because it doesn't seem to be in some people's nature to tattle on people they respect and spend so much time having fun with every week. Yet you correctly point out that we all lose when no one uses the complaint system, and in several ways. I'm going to have to modify my own behavior in light of that, I think.
 
I think its kind of the wrong mind set thinking of it as tattling. This isn't grade school where a kid just threw a spit ball at you and your going to whine to he teacher. This is one of the top leagues on GTP, and filled with what should be mature and respectable drivers. The complaint process is the only means we have to really keep our league outstanding and not turn into an open lobby. This is a peer based, peer led, peer ruled league, its everyone's hob to abide by the rules, and to make sure your peers do as well. Also, if your of the "I hate that guy cause he snitched on me" type, there are other places better suited for you, like the open lobby.
 
I heard drivers apologize... "Sorry, didn't mean to bump you... (into the gravel, out of the race)" time and again. Those apologies - a month or more before the Stewards system started - didn't amount to much change in the offending driver's behavior. Just repeated 'apologies' that didn't really mean much, at least to me, stewing in the gravel, the grass, or whatnot, time and again.

I think the Complaint system - the one mentioned in EVERY results posting by zer05ive - works. I have recently seen dramatic improvement by drivers who I previously lodged a complaint against. Yes, D5 can get sloppy on slippery wheels, but it's a lot easier to see effort to avoid unnecessary contact now.

I like the process and if you want to see cleaner driving, try using the system that's in place. When something happens... are you gonna call it in, or do nothing and accept that as your standard of clean driving?

Your call, or your no call, decides what kind of division you drive in, and how you see yourself as a driver in your division, I suppose.

And I totally did not see this until 5 minutes after buying and race modding the NSX!

(All the RM combos, but still.. I had a feeling we would see RM again...)

So that will be on Racing Hard, based on Current tires, right?
 
After a couple of weeks, I see how important car colour can be. As zer0 already has a firm hold on white, I'll switch to Matte Light Blue with White wheels. And as Doc also has a firm hold on the answer, I'll switch my number to my old karting number, #2.

Now I'm off to RM and NSX and get BOB to thrash it :)
 
Interestingly, the Acura becomes a Honda when it's RMed (according to the badge on the hood.)
Not that it ever wasn't a Honda…

Edit: Looks like best laps will be right under 1:30. 7 Lap race, I imagine.

The car is very well settled…until it isn't. It's got lots of grip but if you upset it you're in trouble.

Watch it there, your getting pretty close to my scheme! Actually. I used to use matte blue and white, now I just kinda vary between matte blue and matte dark blue and use a dark bronze color for rims.

I didn't see matte light blue on the list, so figured it would be good contrast to your matte dark blue :)
